2016-2017 APPIC Internship Interview Thread

VA Puget Sound, American Lake Division (General)
Not invited, indicated that I would be ranked.
Notified on 11/29

What is this not invited to interview but will be ranked stuff? I didn't even know that existed before. It seems so strange, I don't really get why sites do that.

Because sites have limited slots available for onsite interviews, and do not want to go into the clearinghouse process if they do not match within the invited applicants.

Has anyone heard from the Vanderbilt VA neuropsych track? They have a tentative interview date for December 5th which is fast approaching!

I applied for both the general and neuropsych tracks and got a mass email invite last Wednesday, though they didn't specify in the email which track I was being interviewed for

I've reviewed internship apps two years in a row now (funnily enough for an internship that rejected me for an interview back in the day) and it's really, really difficult. A lot of people are qualified and seem like they would do quite well at our site. However, there are just too many people who have certain experiences or qualifications that seem to match the training better. I realize now that it doesn't mean you're a bad applicant at all. It just means that you didn't have some certain qualification and/or experience (or the level thereof) that someone else did. And, yeah, I recognize that it's really unfair. I wish there was a different way to do it, but I'm not sure what that would be.

Same here (actually saw some of you received invites from our site, congrats!). I too did not even receive an interview from the site where I currrenly work (and supervise interns)! I remember feeling so devastated, but it ended up being the best thing that ever happened to me! There are literally so many applicants who are equally qualified, and we have to be very nit picky about such small things (because so many of you are great!). As I was reviewing, I frequently believed many of the applicants that we did not invite had far more impressive experiences than I do!

Hahaha I agree with you I'm definitely turning mad. I just know how much it sucks when invites go out and you haven't heard either way, so I figured putting the time will help us figure out if invitations are going out in waves or all at once. Hope my madness helps! 🙂

I thinks it says a lot about me if I actually genuinely liked that you put the time in. Type A control freak is taking over my life and probably all of yours too since we're all still here on this forum!
