2016-2017 Georgetown University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
@mcatasu SDN is made up the the hyper-achievers, if you apply before and complete before the end of September you're on time. U are fine throw your hat into the ring!

But, they have already started interviews?

I submitted my secondary the 7th and was completed by the 12th.. And alot of schools dont give you Interviews in a linear fashion. So you might get a invite before someone who was completed before you.

Thanks. I guess I'll start working on those secondaries then.

Interviewed here this past week:

Day started at 10:00am in the "fish bowl" with 12 applicants in total. 9 ladies, 3 men. Had three speeches by Princess (welcoming, basic information, and explanation of the day), an MD veteran (pros and cons of Georgetown, congratulations on getting this far, info about the school), and Ms. Sullivan (motivational, what it means to be a student and physician at Georgetown, what it means to be a healer, very compelling story). Next, a quick ten minute financial information session with option to ask questions. Next, went on a quick tour of the facilities with two students (MS1 - male and MS2 - female) then had a upscale buffet (salad bar, salmon, pork, chicken, deserts, all delicious) with the students. Went back to the fish bowl and waited for interviews. 7 went in right away, 5 had to wait until next round. Interview lasted about 4o minutes.

My interview was in my opinion pretty challenging, questions were very repetitive, it was by no means a conversation but rather as if I was being intentionally put in the hot seat and made to feel uncomfortable. I was asked the following questions:

Tell me about activity (x3)
Why Georgetown?
Why Medicine?
Biggest strength/weakness?
Three best qualities your friends would say about you?
One strength that you would never get rid of regardless of if it cost you acceptance to the program?
Three best qualities for a physician to have
Biggest problem in medicine? Give me another one.
If you gave a prescription ten times the dose what would you do? What if you were a medical student and it was the attending who gave the wrong dose? Challenged answer. Challenged again. And again.
What questions do you have for me (x7) - he did not have an answer to any question that I asked, extremely awkward but he kept asking me "what else"

Had an amazing day and loved the school, program, and speakers, but my interview left a bad taste in my mouth... I don't know if I was intentionally being put in the hot seat but it was probably one of the most uncomfortable conversations I've ever had.

I interviewed in August. My interview was pretty low stress. Most of my questions were about my activities/experiences. It was pretty conversational. I think the only traditional question was "Why you?" and "Why medicine?". I really enjoyed my interview. I feel like everyone tried to make us feel as calm and relaxed as possible.

Well that kind of is unfair and sucks that some interviewers are really intense and some don't grill you, haha. Guess it's luck of the draw for interviewees 😉

That's the bad thing about traditional ones. MMIs really do a good job about taking out the bias that they can have. Maybe all schools will switch to them eventually.

Hi can someone with MSAR post the number of interviews and the number of matriculants pleaseeeeeee my subscription expired last week and I really don't want to buy it AGAIN

Looks like the wave of rejections has finally passed. II received around two hours ago!

Incredibly excited -- completely in love with GT!

Congrats! Cheers to making it to the other side!

Dear Diary: Some of my comrades in battle seem optimistic, yet I fear the worst has not yet passed us. Although I participate in the talk of brighter days to come, I can feel the shadow of George's axe weighing heavily upon us all...

My plan is to continue to send sacrificial application updates in an effort to appease George and his merciless ax. If I can force him to delay axing me for long enough I will survive the onslaught that will ensue.

good plan man 👍 thats what I've been doing LOL

Just went with this strategy too- do you get an email that your update has been received when you add it to the portal?

Does the Georgetown portal even update after you are complete? It just stays as "you are under review" until invite or rejection right?

I don't think it changes. I already interviewed and my portal still says under review. A new tab appears with the II.

What have you guys been updating them on? I take it theres only so many activities to update on right? Lol

Since I'm seeing people who submitted before I did (~8/3) get IIs just now. I sent an ITA update in early September and received an II last week. I really doubt that had an impact but who knows

Just wanted to chime in here! I interviewed here sometime this month and could not have loved it more. My interview was the complete opposite of the stress interview mentioned above......my interviewer went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and just genuinely wanted to chat with me.

Pretty sure I'll die of happiness if I get accepted here. Or waitlisted. As long as the axe of rejection doesn't drop, I'll be thrilled.

If anyone has any questions about the interview day, ask away!

I should have done that when I was in town for a different interview this month. Completely forgot about ITA. I'll be close by again next month, so maybe I'll send one and see if it does anything. Did you email it or just submit it as an update on the portal?

Been "under review" for 2 weeks...Does anyone know if that's a sign of early rejection?

Plenty of us have been under review since July/August and haven't received a decision. Don't read too much into it.
But also plenty of people have been invited for II right away. Feeling disappointed...
