2016-2017 Georgetown University Application Thread
Started by WedgeDawg
It's been 7 days. Chill.I submitted 7/12 and my status still says that my application is under review. Has Georgetown sent rejections yet? Getting a little nervous to not have received any word yet. 🙁

I submitted on 7/4 and also haven't had any movement yet, we just have to be patient. There's plenty of batches of II's and just because you aren't in the first one isn't cause for alarm (or at least that's what I've been telling myself).
People, it's MID JULY - and the cycle could last until next May/June or so, with acceptances and interview invites coming for a loooooong time. You can't drive yourself early in the first 2 weeks.
Is the neuroticism this high every year? Not a snarky question, legitimately wondering because I've seen these freakouts on just about every school thread.

^ meant to say "Drive yourself crazy" - but was thinking how early it is so that word slipped in there

I'm honestly not sure, but I've also seen this trend and it's stressing me out a tad!

Everyone needs to take a class in the Mind Body Medicine Program...
Not about this quote, but I'm curious about your signature at the bottom. Did you really already got 5 IIs for the 2016-2017 cycle? That's very very impressive.I'm not sure what is currently available, but what I was offered was during the week of 8/29.

Yes. 5 IIs so far. I honestly wasn't expecting anywhere near this kind of response, especially this early. Even if I don't get any more interview invites for the rest of the application cycle, I will be really happy because I will have exceeded my expectations.
Do you plan on attending all of them? Any favorites?Yes. 5 IIs so far. I honestly wasn't expecting anywhere near this kind of response, especially this early. I plan on attending all of them. I can't really feel secure until I have at least one acceptance, so I will go to as many as my tiny bank account will allow. They are all awesome schools, so I would be happy attending any one of them. Because I am applying on a budget, I did not include any schools which I could honestly not see myself attending if it was the only place I got accepted.
Yeah I 100% agree. Hopefully you getting an acceptance early on at one of your top schools so you can save some money! HahaI plan on attending all of them. II here too! Received email on Friday in that wave of invites they sent out.
Does anyone else get the sense that hotels near GT are pretty expensive? Seems like Arlington is a bit cheaper, but possibly lower quality.
I went to gtown undergrad, and yes the hotels nearby are pretty expensive (and not really worth while if you're on a budget). I would suggest staying in Rosslyn (right across the river). It will be much cheaper and it's not very difficult to get to campus, there's actually a shuttle straight from Rosslyn. Happy to help w/ logistics if anyone has questions!

I submitted July 5th and got an interview, but I went there undergrad, so probably not representative of anything..

Congratulations! I'm interviewing at GW and Tulane so far. Good luck!

Submitted my secondary here today and finally complete. Hoping to get some love from this school 🙂
Hey everyone, I'm wondering how long it would take to drive from the interview to ronald reagan airport? If I leave the interview at 3pm, would catching a 6:30 flight be OK with time to spare? I'm not from DC and have no clue what the traffic would be like on the relevant roads at that time of day (I've heard bad stories lol)

Leaving the interview at 3 will give you PLENTY of time to make a 6:30 flight. GW is almost right across the river from the airport. It's only a 10 minute drive. You'll be fine.

Not sure if this will make a significant difference, but I'm talking about gtown, and you mentioned GW! Seems like two locals aren't agreeing on this one...

Whoops. That was a typo. Even from Georgetown, leaving at 3 or even 3:30 will get you there in more than enough time for your flight.

Even if traffic was REALLY BAD, it would only take max 45 min - 1 hr to get to the airport - Georgetown/GW are about 15 mins from Reagan.

Any locals know of some cheap hotels nearby? After a very diligent search, I have not been able to find anywhere less than $200 :/
Try AirB&B. It might be a long shot but I've had decent luck finding nice-ish apartments for pretty cheap
Submitted secondary on 7/12 and still nothing. I know it is too soon to worry now as it has only been nine days but at what point am I not considered neurotic to worry? My dream school so I'm a little anxious about this one…

I submitted 7/4 and haven't heard anything back from them, just be patient. It's a mysterious and really long process.
In a few months you can worry, so just relax for right now and enjoy summer!
Congrats!!II!!!!!!
Did you do a post-secondary update or LOI before getting the II?

AH!!! Also 6/29, so you have inspired me! Congratulations on your II!I was complete 6/29. LizzyM at around 69. No update. Being patient was nearly impossible and I had honestly given up when I saw everyone who submitted after me getting II's
I think this has been brought up before with no real answer, but does anyone know what Georgetown's stance is on sending a letter of intent prior to an II? I've heard in the past they have basically require an LOI for admission (kind of an unspoken criteria of theirs), but I'm curious as to whether it would help earlier on?

Georgetown strongly prefers LOIs???
Okay this is probably a really stupid question but what is an LOI?

Letter of Interest or Intent in some cases.

I may be naive, but isn't it a bit early to be sending LOIs? My instinct says to atleast wait until you've been interviewed. I feel it would carry more weight at that point anyways. Has anyone sent a LOI already?

That's what I'm wondering. I just know they care about them so I wasn't sure if it's something that helps to get an II and really show how interested you are or if they specifically only help after the fact. But yes, usually schools would want them after an interview.I may be naive, but isn't it a bit early to be sending LOIs? My instinct says to atleast wait until you've been interviewed. That's what I've heard and read. They really like people that really like them and would attend if accepted, apparently more so than other schools.Georgetown strongly prefers LOIs???
