What's the deal with NYC programs? Other than an interview at Presbyterian I haven't heard a peep (not even my away rotation).
Are you asking us why those programs don't want to interview you? What's the deal with NYC programs? Other than an interview at Presbyterian I haven't heard a peep (not even my away rotation).

Does anyone know the interview situation for Davis, Irvine, NM, and/or Maricopa? Any dates open or are they all filled at the moment? Thanks!
UVA Had Oct 26th, Nov 2, 22, 30 and Dec 9th as far as I can see
Maricopa: open November 16, 30Does anyone know the interview situation for Davis, Irvine, NM, and/or Maricopa? Any dates open or are they all filled at the moment? Thanks!
Surprisingly quiet on my end as well, despite loads of interviews elsewhere (20+) but waiting for the NYC love before canceling others...

Looks like they have 11/15, 11/21, 12/13, and 1/3 open (there's AM and PM spots each day, but can't see which are available on those days). How is the availability for the UTHSCSA interview dates currently?

I think this is pretty common. The rich are pretty rich. Things will flow downstream when those people start cancelling. Not sure if I'm interpreting the above correctly - are you currently holding onto over 20 interview offers?
Did you all not read this post?
Stop getting worked up about what is and is not available at a specific place. If/when you get an interview somewhere, you'll find out your options. Don't bypass other interviews in the hopes that your unicorn program sends you an interview for a specific date.
Go back and read that post again.I don't know about anyone else's motives, but I was personally asking to see whether there are dates open at a select number of programs so I could have some insight into whether there might be another round of interview invites, and whether an email of interest would be beneficial at this time. I suspect other people may want to know specific dates in case they are in a position to send "in the area" emails. I don't think that's too absurd.
Go back and read that post again.
One more time.
Actually, do it again...I'll wait.
Now do you understand?
They are saying, if you have already scheduled an interview, and then go back to check to see what dates are available, you will not only see truly open dates, but also dates of other scheduled interviewees that want to trade for your date. And you'll have no idea which is which. So using any one user's "open dates" to make any sort of decision for yourself is ridiculous.
And you have no idea if a program will add additional dates, or open up more slots on specific dates tomorrow, or next week. So yes, it's absurd.
Send your email of interest. Send your "in the area" email. The "data" you're gathering to inform your choices is about as useful as reading raccoon entrails for the same purpose.
This is his baseline. He always posts like that. It's his thing.Meh, seems fairly harmless, at the worst. Perhaps the "open dates" data could be misleading for the reason you state above, but the "full dates" data would have the same utility. This really isn't worth talking about but I found your original post and the post quoted above unnecessarily demeaning and pedantic, so felt the need to defend myself and others who have asked this type of question in the thread. Everyone else has been either super helpful or remained silent on the subject, I'm a little baffled that you're so worked up about it.

This is the PSA to remind people to cancel their interviews. And withdraw from the school's you are no longer interested in. Help everyone else out.
The administrator is not a troll. SDN welcomes anyone who wants to contribute. However, have at it in this thread. How you respond is on YOU, but the tenor of this thread is a minority (right now) on this site. Maybe as we get older/retire/die, y'all will become the majority, and then your calling someone else a "troll" will have more gravitas. Thanks, my bad. Sorry for feeding the troll, folks!
I love snide responses instead of simply answering the question because that type of attitude is exactly what we incoming interns always hope to work with. Just a helpful FYI. Your witty retort, if given to an attending during residency, will not go over well. It makes you seem self-righteous and ill-equipped to handle much of the acerbic banter which regularly occurs in an emergency department. No, this isn't surgery and you shouldn't expect to get yelled at every 30 seconds. That said, if you get offended by something as utterly benign as Apollyon's comment, you're going to have a rude awakening as a resident.I love snide responses instead of simply answering the question because that type of attitude is exactly what we incoming interns always hope to work with. Lol that was a response meant for the other guy's drawn out response to a question, but acerbic banter sounds miserableJust a helpful FYI. Sorry for the confusion folks. I meant to imply that despite getting 20+ invites I was surprised to have not gotten many from NYC and was still hoping and holding out for NYC invites.
However I have canceled some of the invites for which I am less interested or do not have the time to go on! I was referring to canceling even more only once I start getting some NYC places...
Good luck to everyone on getting interviews and crushing it on the interview trail!

What a weird coincidence. I'm in the same situation you are with interviews and no love from NYC programs. I had to call Maimonides and ask them for an invite after my couples match partner got invites in NYC for pediatrics, and then they sent an invite a week later. Still nothing from the other NYC programs, so it's not just you. I'm from NY State too, going to a state school here.
Yeah, they're new.+Additional Penn State Hershey - available dates are Nov 2, 16; Dec 21, Jan 4 - looks like the last two are new dates!
how many interviews should we have at this point? average student average grades average???
I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I didn't even apply to that many programs! Just withdrew from 13 programs yesterday to allow other great applicants to have their chance. With that many programs, those people should know which programs they are actually interested in and which were their backups. Let the backups go, they are obviously strong candidates!Interviewed the other day, some of the applicants I was talking to had 40+ invites and haven't canceled yet... Literally keeping invites from other folks. Sickening.
Not only is that a dick move, but why are they applying to so many?Interviewed the other day, some of the applicants I was talking to had 40+ invites and haven't canceled yet... Literally keeping invites from other folks. Sickening.

This makes me very sad
