No, but based on the interview thread several of the NYC programs either haven't sent out invites or sent out a only few in September/early October.

I was just wondering if this was common for NYC since many programs have already filled their dates.

Just noticed this on interviewbroker today:

"If you have a confirmed interview date, you will see available dates differently from applicants confirmed for other interview dates. This is because potential 1:1 swaps will also show as an available dates on your scheduling calendar. Therefore, attempts to report available dates to other applicants will not necessarily be accurate and will cause confusion."

FWIW. Might explain why some people are seeing different available dates.

Davis has one spot left on 12/1 and Irvine has one spot left on each of these dates: 11/22, 12/6, 12/7, 1/4

Did you all not read this post?

Stop getting worked up about what is and is not available at a specific place. If/when you get an interview somewhere, you'll find out your options. Don't bypass other interviews in the hopes that your unicorn program sends you an interview for a specific date.

I think this is pretty common. The rich are pretty rich. Things will flow downstream when those people start cancelling.

This is the PSA to remind people to cancel their interviews. And withdraw from the school's you are no longer interested in. Help everyone else out.

I don't know about anyone else's motives, but I was personally asking to see whether there are dates open at a select number of programs so I could have some insight into whether there might be another round of interview invites, and whether an email of interest would be beneficial at this time. I suspect other people may want to know specific dates in case they are in a position to send "in the area" emails. I don't think that's too absurd.
 
It should not be common to be holding onto over 20 interview offers. Don't get me wrong, each person who receives so many interviews deserves each one of those invites, and those applicants should be celebrated and congratulated for their success, but Program Directors at ACEP in Vegas pleaded with the crowd (of medical students at the opening lecture) to start canceling after 15 to help them (the PDs) and help each other (the students). I can understand a person not having had the time to do their research into which to decline yet but other than that I'm not sure how someone could get past 20.

They are saying, if you have already scheduled an interview, and then go back to check to see what dates are available, you will not only see truly open dates, but also dates of other scheduled interviewees that want to trade for your date. And you'll have no idea which is which. So using any one user's "open dates" to make any sort of decision for yourself is ridiculous.

Meh, seems fairly harmless, at the worst. Perhaps the "open dates" data could be misleading for the reason you state above, but the "full dates" data would have the same utility. This really isn't worth talking about but I found your original post and the post quoted above unnecessarily demeaning and pedantic, so felt the need to defend myself and others who have asked this type of question in the thread. Everyone else has been either super helpful or remained silent on the subject, I'm a little baffled that you're so worked up about it.

Just a helpful FYI. Your witty retort, if given to an attending during residency, will not go over well. It makes you seem self-righteous and ill-equipped to handle much of the acerbic banter which regularly occurs in an emergency department. No, this isn't surgery and you shouldn't expect to get yelled at every 30 seconds. That said, if you get offended by something as utterly benign as Apollyon's comment, you're going to have a rude awakening as a resident.

I regret and apologize for the troll comment. I think it's great when those already practicing come in to this thread to offer help or constructive criticism. Ideally the delivery would be respectful regardless of your more advanced stature.

What a weird coincidence. I'm in the same situation you are with interviews and no love from NYC programs. I had to call Maimonides and ask them for an invite after my couples match partner got invites in NYC for pediatrics, and then they sent an invite a week later. Still nothing from the other NYC programs, so it's not just you. I'm from NY State too, going to a state school here.

Seems like NYC programs are a little behind this year?

That being said, Just got an invite from St. Luke's Roosevelt and NYU in past 3 days. NYU offered a ton of dates until end of January. St. Luke's had all of January open but pretty much filled Nov and Dec.

Maybe they are batching interviews? Filled their early spots with superstars and are going to wait to see who is highly interested for later dates? I don't know, but these two programs had far more later dates than I have seen elsewhere

Assuming your goal is 12+ interviews (the magic 99% match rate number) you'd want at least 5+ at this point.

Depending on where you applied you may get more or less in November but as a general rule about half the invites go out before Halloween.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I didn't even apply to that many programs! Just withdrew from 13 programs yesterday to allow other great applicants to have their chance. With that many programs, those people should know which programs they are actually interested in and which were their backups. Let the backups go, they are obviously strong candidates!
 
Question regarding waitlisting vs scheduling. Is there any harm in waitlisting a desired date rather than just accepting a date that would be less ideal?
