Talked to Dr Whitehair at the residency fair about this email I also received. He said this email is not a rejection. They've sent out real rejections so seems like this is more like a waitlist. Btw, He is amazing!

It's not a rejection letter. The rejection letter will come about a month later. :)

rejection email from Mayo today. :(
Aww hang in there - but in some perverse sense, I welcome rejections at this time haha. Is that weird? I appreciate the certainty; it's the not knowing with most programs that kills me.

Are any programs still sending out invites? Or are all interviews from here on out just coming off the waitlist?

Only two invites thus far :/

Keep your head up, there should still be more on the way. Cancellations are definitely coming, Which means spots are going to open up, and invites will be sent out. We are probably passed all of the mass invites at this point though. The only schools that have not shown up here are Michigan State and Stanford.

I sure hope so. I feel like I should have done a PM&R away earlier in the year. I think I'm having a hard time getting interviews bc mynlack of a LOR from a physiatrist. I asked one of the attendings from my away last month. I feel it's hard to get a good letter when you change attendings each week at these always though.

In case people aren't following the spreadsheet, looks like Michigan state sent invites today

Has Stanford really not sent out any invites yet?? Seems to be very quiet on their front.

Last year they didn't send them out till mid November based on this thread from last year. And I think in years past they only offer a few dates, in January.

This is correct. I think Stanford has like 2-3 dates in January.

Keep in mind that DOs have historically flocked toward PMR. IMGs have also targeted PMR programs because they have historically been less competitive and can still provide a decent quality of life for decent pay.

The numbers speak for themselves...PMR is statistically a competitive residency type.

Has anyone heard from Colorado yet?

I accidentally scheduled two different interviews on the same day and was wondering if someone would be willing to switch dates with me if your schedule is flexible. I currently have both Louisiana State University and Univeristy of Louisville scheduled on 11/18. I also have an interview with University of Missouri on 12/9 which is a super cramped week for me and would also be a date that I would like to switch. If you can help me out, please message me. Thanks so much!

Would anyone be willing to trade an interview date to the University of Arkansas (UAMS) ? Mine is November 18 and have 2 interviews scheduled for that day. Thanks

Did anyone going to temple get a confirmation email or anything? The interview is less than a week away and I haven't heard a thing but I'm scheduled under the interview tab.

Speaking of temple, I am scheduled for November 30th but can no longer make it that day. I have not been able to reach them and am wondering if anyone is able to switch dates with me?

Anyone start getting offers yet when other people cancel interview dates?

I've gotten 1 for sure and 1 other possible that was much later than original invites date so it could be from a cancellation.

Anyone start getting offers yet when other people cancel interview dates?

I got an invite from emory today. They only gave me the 1 date as an option so I'm assuming it's because of a cancellation...

Anyone else get offered a phone interview? Not sure what to think of it. Thoughts?

Anyone who has interviewed at UT San Antonio, did you get an itinerary or additional confirmation from Ms. Garza prior to your interview date? If so, how early? Thanks!

Any chance anyone can make a swap with me for an interview at Georgetown NRH - I am currently scheduled on Friday 12/2, and am looking to switch to Thursday 12/1, or else Thursday 11/17. Please PM me! Thanks!

Hey everyone - Calling for HELP please!

I found out today I have to have urgent surgery next Monday for an unforeseen and unexpected health issue. I will be unable to fly for 4-6 weeks and will have several restrictions weeks after the surgery.

I need to reschedule the following interviews to dates in Dec or Jan:
RIC - 11/16
Cincinnati - 11/18
Montefiore - 11/21
Burke - 11/22

If anyone can help PLEASE, PLEASE PM me and I would be forever grateful!

I'm sitting on the waitlist for one of my dream programs (program A)
But I have a interview on the same day with a program I care less about (program B)

What is the least amount of notice I could give program B about a cancellation to attend program A?

Give them as much notice as possible...but cancel the day before if it is what it takes to get your dream program. A similar scenario happened to me a few years ago...and I'm now at my dream program. I felt bad for cancelling short notice...but the program still easily filled.

Great to hear about your success story j4pac! What kind of notice/email did you send when you cancelled so late? I'm just worried I may be "blacklisted" or looked upon unfavorably if they find out I cancelled to interview elsewhere.

About a day and a half. The program was really understanding and even tried to give me another spot that had opened (which I declined because I was already scheduled for a different interview).

Just be respectful and give as much notice as you can.

Just posted this on the spreadsheet but I wanted to see if anyone is able to switch dates with me for Kessler. I am scheduled for 1/4 and would like to switch to 12/21. PM me, please!

Stanford soft rejection today 11/17. Not flat out no but said would keep app on file.

Switch request. I am currently scheduled to interview at Carolinas Medical Center on Dec 2, but would prefer Dec 9. Please PM me if you would like to switch. Thanks!

Realistically are there no more interview invites to go out at this point? Still haven't heard from a couple programs I'm really interested in... Suggestions?
There are a few places I have interviews at that use the ERAS scheduler that still have openings listed. So I would take that to mean there are some places that haven't offered all their interview spots yet. I think if you haven't heard from a place you're really interested in, emailing them at this point couldn't hurt.

Prelim/TY Interviews - do people think they are mostly done inviting too? or more to come? I have only about 6 invites so far, so obviously hoping to get more prelim/TY programs, esp from places where I interviewed for PM&R...

I have a couple questions and would like to hear some thoughts.
1) How many programs will we need to rank for a high chance of matching?
2) How likely is it in PM&R that people match into their top 3 choices?

Thanks and hope the trail is treating everyone well

Hey pmr10,

1. You might have already seen this but just in case you haven't.

http://www.nrmp.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Charting-Outcomes-US-Allopathic-Seniors-2016.pdf

Based on NRMP data in 2016, PMR applicants ranked on average 14 schools. Those who ranked 11 or more had >90% match.

2. http://eyesteve.com/residency-rank-list/

In 2013, this article was written from the NRMP 2013 data that states if you are a US grad (unsure if they differentiated Allopathic vs. Osteopathic), and rank 11 programs, theres 52.5% chance of matching with #1, 68.5% chance of matching top 2, 78.8% chance of matching top 3, and 85.5% chance of matching into top 4 programs we rank.

Just curious how generalizable some of the NRMP match data is to our field...
For US MDs, I frequently hear how 55% match to their top choice and 95% match into a top 5 choice. But with most of this data coming from IM/FM/Peds matched applicants who are in massive programs, won't the match stats be different in our field where the average program size is 4?

I think the answer to every last one of these questions at this stage is take every interview you can conceivably make + consider living in for 3/4 years, rank your exact preference, maybe notify your top program that it's your top, then make 2 sets of St. Patrick's Day plans.

With respect to your specific question, I would say that the 10% rule seems fairly consistent across specialties.
1000 people apply for 100 interview spots for 10 residency spots, more or less. Maybe for us it's more like 500/50/5 or 500/100/10, so by extension, those other stats may apply. The person who got RIC/UW/HMS/Kessler/Mayo/UPMC is probably as likely as the person who got the middle or bottom 6 of doximity ranks to get their respective top 3.

Hi.. I am an IMG and interested in PM&R program. Do you guys think it is an IMG friendly program? I have taken my step 1 with 244. I am really interested in this field but it seems that only a few IMG accepted to this field. Is it more competitive to IM for IMG ? Thank you

I wrote this a few years ago, but I doubt much has changed.

ARE FMG STUDENTS COMPETITIVE
The field is becoming more competitive for FMGs as the competitiveness increases on the whole. But it is becoming a challenge specifically for FMGs. The percentage of FMGs has been dipping yearly and I suspect that number to be below 10% for the first time in a long time. I have only met 3 FMG applicants on the 10 interviews which I attended. I would recommend doing an audition rotation at the more FMG-friendly programs, because you need to find something that will set you apart. According to last year’s stats, the most programs with more than 25% FMG were: UTSW Dallas, SUNY Upstate, Kansas, Case Western, Washington Univ/St. Louis, Colorado, NSLUHS, and SUNY Brooklyn.
