I'm a current MS1 at Downstate and would recommend using AirBnB. I can't think of any hotels that are actually close to campus and AirBnBs tend to be WAY cheaper. Nice neighborhoods nearby include Park Slope, Prospect Heights, and the west side of Crown Heights- it would take you 20 minutes at most to get to campus from any of those neighborhoods if you stay near a subway. Staying really close to the school is of course fine too.

I was thinking about sending an email asking about the appropriate timeline for things like letters of interest/intent. It's probably one of my top choices so I'm definitely going to write one.. I kind of want to send one soon in case they look at my app again before Spring, ya know?
That's exactly my thinking too. I was considering calling to ask what the typical protocol is and if it would be worth sending one now vs. later on

Same here. Does anyone know if in the past, interviewees who got this offer have gotten acceptances? Or are we basically interviewing for waitlist spots?

it says in the email that we're not and i trust them about that.
i actually have never heard of schools interviewing applicants for the waitlist. it doesnt make sense and sounds like a waste of resources
Some schools do this to have a wait list in case people choose to attend another school and drop their acceptance. Also, schools are pressured to have their classes full or nearly full by December. Some schools, apparently including Downstate, do not give in to this pressure
Current MS3, interviewed at the very end of January, got accepted. It ain't over til it's over.

After confirming interest to interview, is it appropriate to give a range of dates during which I'll be in NYC? Traveling from West Coast multiple times is just too costly for me. Any insights/personal anecdotes?

Congrats!! It seems like most people who got off the hold until late spring list were placed on it very recently. Has anyone who was placed on this list in late oct/early november been accepted?

Accepted two days ago after being put on "hold for spring" last week!!!!! They're just messing with us at this point. Anybody know when I should expect the official acceptance letter via snail mail? I can't trust them 100% until I have that bad boy in hand 😉

No updates - just a random email! Because there were seemingly a few of us in the same boat, my hunch is that the hold email was a mistake
HFS here too. But with all of these acceptances afterwards, it gives me hope!
