2016-2017 Wayne State University Application Thread

I feel like your case only happens if the person who interviewed you was unable to show up to the initial following committee meeting. I feel like for most people: if you're waitlisted, you're waiting until April.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
That's weird. Maybe I misunderstood, but my interviewer basically told me that he won't be in the committee meeting. He just submits his evaluation and that's it.

Happened to me as well. Waitlist Nov, Accepted Dec. So who knows?

Lol right? I'm just trying to do my part in helping people on the waitlist keep the hope aliiive, but I get it's probably getting annoying now lol

Current students: As someone whose coming from a non-trad/career changer background, I'm not matriculating with the most competitive uGPA so I'm not expecting too much in terms of scholarship money.

However, do y'all know if Wayne gives out scholarships throughout the 4 years? As in, if you end up being a high-performer are you looked at again for scholarship opportunities in 2nd, 3rd year etc?

I am not sure if they are necessarily meeting today, however, on our interview day for 1/30, the lady was adamant that the decision would be out by 2/10. In fact, she stated that we should EXPECT a decision before that date.

Was told the same thing on 1/20. Was told I should expect to hear back way before 2/10 but they set that date as an "insurance policy" if you will.

I saw that there were some people who heard on Monday...does that still mean the 2/10 still applies? I'm rooting for ya!

Any decision or specifically acceptances?

I'm not too sure. But we were told we'd hear back by 2/10 so I'd assume we could hear back tomorrow as well.

Edit: just realized you're talking to someone else
No no, I was a 2/6 person. I was just hoping that maybe if they were meeting to make decisions anyway for the 10th, the Feb 6 people might get lumped into that. I probably still have a long wait 😳

It's possible! I know other medical schools have definitely lumped together decisions from different dates. Good luck

I mean it's possible. On 1/20 we were told 2/10 but that we would hear back WAY before. So maybe they haven't come to a decision on everyone yet and had to meet again. Why else would they let some people know Monday and then wait so long. Usually people got their waitlist email the next day or if it was a weekend, the Monday after. But still not sure if that was the case if they would have the time to review the 2/6 people. Did they give you a date?

Yes my date was 2/24 but should hear back "way before then" so really it's anyone's guess apparently!

I guess in this case they are using their full "insurance policy". Lol

For what its worth, I didn't ask about it directly on the 1/23 interview day but the way it was presented in the morning was written on the whiteboard in this manner:

"Next offer day: 2/10"

Again, maybe this was vague and meant as an "insurance policy/worst case scenario" for those of us interviewing that day. But just thought I would throw it out there.

The beautiful thing is that tomorrow is but a day away (not even).

Ours also had "week of 2/24" written on the board, but she say "way before", and didn't imply that 2/24 was a direct offer day. God, I am getting so neurotic.

I know the feeling lol.

Like I said, I didn't ask about it - so that is probably what they meant. People have already heard back (Monday) from my interview day so like I said take it for what its worth. I'm just trying my best to stay patient and optimistic so I don't put my head through a wall.:bang:

I feel y'all. My decision took 11 days and it felt like it was 11 years. With every email, I was jumping out of my seat..... good luck!

Also waitlisted :/ Anyone who was waitlisted and later accepted that suggests doing anything? Update letters, etc?

Waitlisted. Interviewed 1/23.

Waitlisted. Interviewed 1/20.
GPA: 3.96 MCAT: 512
In State.
I'm hopeful

On a positive note, it isn't a rejection. Due to the great amount of movement of the waitlist, there is still a fighting chance.
yeah from what I understand they waitlist *almost* everyone to start.

But you are absolutely correct, there is a considerable amount of waitlist movement so not all hope is lost.

I do wish I could know how far down the waitlist I am - because if I'm #150 it would affect my perspective a lot differently than if I was #25. It's unfortunate that our waitlist rank is confidential.

Just to confirm, alternate list is synonymous with waitlist?

Have you checked all your spam filters? You should have gotten some sort of decision
Wait just curiously are you in touch with admissions and they told you everyone should have gotten a decision just now? Or is this based off what they said on interview day? I recall someone on this thread saying they'd spoken to admissions about when they were meeting, not sure if it was you

Not me, but I was an early interviewee/acceptee so I've followed the thread for a long time. They don't leave people without decisions. If people from your day have gotten acceptances and waitlists, you should have gotten one or the other. If I were you, I would call.

Thanks, but technically the date they said was tomorrow, 2/10. Some of my friends were told that they'd hear by 12/2 and acceptances came that day, waitlists came actually the following Monday 12/5. But if by the end of the day Friday I don't hear back I think I will call

kk. Just a suggestion, as you've posted a whole lotta posts about 1/20. 🙂 Good luck!
