SDN Folks-

As Spring is on the horizon, summer approaches rapidly, and along with dreams of margaritas and sandy beaches, our thoughts turn toward our annual lab recruitment for summer students.

If anyone is interested in a research term at MDACC in Houston for Summer 2015, my "dry lab" currently is recruiting for undergrad (pre-med or physics) and medical student trainee (MS1-4) slots (we typically have space for 10 students, with a typical 6-12 week time commitment). The clearance and intake process takes a few months, so now is good time to get the ball rolling. We also have rolling post-doc spots and currently have 2 folks who are on year-long research years if that is a desired option.

My team's work is focused on advanced imaging in head and neck radiotherapy (you can browse here: http://faculty.mdanderson.org/Clifton_Fuller/, here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=fuller+cd or here: https://gsbs.uth.edu/faculty/facult...s.htm?id=2d745b1b-b129-4e76-80f4-fa967a939a0b for info on the kind of projects our group is working on).

During the term students are typically tasked with supervised work on a larger imaging or data collection project, as well as a smaller "independent" projects suitable for eventual publication (depending on seniority; e.g. 3rd years need a faster pub turnaround than pre-meds). So far, over the last 3 years, we've had great success with awesome students, with lab team summer student 1st-author pubs in PRO, Int. J. of Cancer, Green Journal, and JACMP, and coauthorships in the JAMA Oncology, Radiology, and Cancer. There is, unfortunately, no direct funding available for stipend support for summer terms, but we can try to help find affordable housing in the area.

If you are interested, pls forward your biosketch to via email to my lab director, at asmohamed [at] mdanderson [dot] org . Sadly, I rarely check my SDN DMs anymore :(

Thanks, and pls feel free to forward to anyone you know who might be interested.
