Just wanted to say I'm in the same boat... Thus far I've only got rejections, no interviews. Sometimes it's difficult not to worry. Hang in there!
 
And another rejection by a school that's all about serving the underserved (cooper). I've spent thousands of hours volunteering and working with just about every marginalized population so it's getting really difficult to see that not be acknowledged by these schools that seem to be a good fit. Clearly there is a red flag somewhere on my app, just have no idea where. This process is such a mind ****...definitely thought I'd be having more luck this cycle. I know I have an acceptance so I shouldn't be complaining, but this process is so disheartening.

Wow. Thanks guys! I'm really trying to hang in there. I know some of us are in the same boat of wanting something for so long and almost getting there.

Congrats to those who have finally made it!!!!

As for the rest of us waiting, I'm sure things will work out for all of us. It's nice knowing we have each other. I never would have had the courage to go for it without the help and encouragement of some people on this forum!
 
Got another rejection this morning. At least now my II and Rejections are even. I like order 🙂

Did any of you guys calls the schools pre-interview? My MCAT is on the low side, but being non-trad has allowed me to have a very robust applications. I am concerned that most schools wont even read my application cuz they screen based on MCAT. I read somewhere that you can call med schools, tell them your concern and ask if they can pull the app from the file. It sounds a bit SDN neurotic IMO, so I was wondering if any of you do this or heard of others who would?

Recently, I've become quite concerned about my SO's job prospects in the many of the cities I've interviewed/will be interviewing in. We own a little house currently and SO wants to rent it out rather than sell but I'm concerned about long term implications and just want to boot it out the door... ugh. Furthermore, if SO can't find a job then they have to stay behind and I'm definitely worried about this.....

Anyone facing similar issues?

I have not (my cumulative is waaaaaaaaaaay below 10th percentile for just about anywhere due to ancient dusty grades, though that's a slightly different issue from MCAT). That's not to say other people haven't tried it and succeeded though. I'd be interested to know if anyone has.

Guys I'm ashamed that I had to check a map to see what possibilities were a few hours' south of Minnesota. I'm such a stereotypical east coaster.

Yup. My SO can only work in a couple of cities in the US. Only one of the med schools in those cities has interviewed me, and I didn't make the first round of acceptances there. Not quite mentally ready to give up on that chance, but we've started discussing how to deal with living apart for the next 4 years, if it is needed.

If I don't get approved for the scholarship program through the military, and my SO has to quit her job (I didn't apply anywhere locally) I cannot go to medical school. I thought the hard part was getting an acceptance until this week. I am seriously freaking out. I have a good application for it but there is literally one spot each month given and a whole lot of applicants.

Exactly.
We discussed it in humor yesterday and it was not humorous to me.. We did the long distance for the final year of my undergrad and it was hard with a moderate class schedule.
I feel like scholarships more often than not may be given to those who know people rather than merit, too. (which adds to neurotism)
My SO is the breadwinner atm so without that income we are screwed financially (especially with mortgage and car loans, not to mention impending doom of medical debt)
ugh.
I'm glad I'm not alone; I'll bring the wine and cheese for us, guys.

Yup same situation with my husband, though he might be able to work from home hopefully. Either way the house problem remains. Rent it out or sell it? Big decision.

I can't agree more. Ridiculous to think I am going to expect my parents to pick up the tab for medical school when I left home decades ago. I don't even feel okay asking them to provide their tax return info to me. Some schools do seem to understand this though, at least if you are, ahem, well-seasoned by time. BU is willing to ignore parental income if you are older than 30 or 35 (forgot which).

Heck, the income of anyone's parents who has a job and doesn't live with guardians.

"Er, but, I haven't been financially associated with either parent in almost twenty years."

"Sorry, our aid still depends on their taxes."

It really sucks, I am in the same boat
My SO is going to be a resident in boston for the next 4 years and I've been trying like hell to get in to either BU or tufts, and just got rejected from BU yesterday. We were LD for most of her time in med school and I really don't want to do it again.

Unfortunately I'm only 24. Nontraditional for reasons other than age.
But still independent from my parents... I just don't get it :'(

My husband gives me so much crap for never having seen these movies...luckily they're all on Amazon Prime. Time to catch up!

I've been off social media for a few days, glad to see more progress!! Congrats! And for all you playing the waiting game like me, let's go find Doc Brown (can't avoid all the pop culture references) and travel to the future.

Fwiw, as I understand it there is a lot of room to appeal the inclusion of parental income at your Financial Aid office. I already did this when applying for FAP, and I suspect the process is not dissimilar. I got a close friend to write a letter explaining what he knew of my situation and AMCAS, at least, was willing to accept that.

I definitely don't think anyone should worry too much. If the school wants you, they want you, you beautiful thing. 🙂

In a similar situation owning a home and going to try to do the rent thing as well as juggling the wife's school ambitions as well as living comforts. PM if you wanna chat about it.

All is silent on this front still.
 
28 y/o non-trad. BA in Theatre. Masters in Social Work. Accepted at top-choice MD school today! Had a 3.3 CGPA due to lots of poor choices I made during the 6 years it took me to finish my BA. I'm thrilled to be making this post!

It only takes one!

I received 1 interview invite to a MD school and got accepted last night!

I have been a registered nurse the past 4 years. I applied with a Lizzy-M <<70. Stats are not everything.

Keep up the optimism guys, it is seriously a rollercoaster of emotions.

Today is the day that the adcom meets at my top choice school. I own't find out anything officially for a while yet, as they only send decisions by snail mail, but I should get an idea if I've been accepted or not through the online portal. The wait is killing me!
 
@Spriteling oh the struggle is real. The waits are absurd... But its part of the game.
