2016 Nontrad Applicants' Progress Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
hey, I offered to meet up in the middle 😛
looks like (so far): we are meeting in the middle of nowhere Wyoming
if more east coast people add their cities to the link above, we might be able to push the geographic center farther east, probably end up in Kansas somewhere.
They heard @BluMist wanted a west coast party 😀

Happy to meet anyone visiting LA. I work right in between USC and UCLA, so I am not too far away.

And congrats @PopeChaChaStix, you are much better off this way. . .

I had my first and only interview recently and man. This wait is a killer, especially thinking this could be my only chance and it didn't quite play out like I hoped
It is brutal. Habitual email checking since April and too many essays to count...I forgot who I was before interviews even started!
Cheers to alcohol and video games...not the healthiest response...but what part of this stress filled half year is???

Best of luck best of luck best of luck

Boom, now it's in Nebraska 😛

FL is nice this time of year ... 😛 (feeling left out 🙁 )

^ Thats amazing, congrats!

Another rejection here from Rush this morning, bummed about this one (my family is from and aunts and uncles live in Chicago - and work at Rush).

That leaves 7 with no answer
3 on holds pre-II
7 rejections pre-II

This cycle is not going well, and I'm at a loss for why. Oh well. Such is life

HOLY ****, I just got an 80K (20k yearly) recruitment scholarship offer.............:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:.
Congrats! That's awesome!

I'm sorry to hear that! I have silence from 17, rejections from 4, holds from 2. No IIs. I'm excited for the break over holidays (time with family and SO away from everything else), but not looking forward to discussing this with people outside the small circle that I'm keepin up to date. "So... Is this normal? What if you don't get in? Why aren't you hearing?"

Please. Some school. Let me see you in person.

^ I'm not sure which is worse, the questions or the unrealistic optimism..."Oh stop worrying, I'm sure you'll get in"...."They'd be idiots to not interview you"...etc etc etc.

Bah humbug - maybe I'm just in a bad mood because my favorite Ramen place is closed on Monday's, which escaped my mind until I got all excited, looked forward to it all morning, and got there to find it closed. Damn you Mondays!

All I want for christmas is for someone to introduce AAMC to the AACOM coursework entry portal

If I have to re-apply, I don't want to have to deal with the archaic AMCAS style again

Hope everyone had a great Holiday! It was so good to get away from the hospital (work) and school for a bit!

My great year seems to be continuing! Official grades were due and officially posted to transcripts on the 22nd; one teacher accidentally entered 3.0 instead of 4.0, and another straight didn't submit my grade. The mistyping professor got a nice email as I noticed the mistake a couple days before they became official, and he replied not to worry that he would fix it, so when I noticed it wasn't fixed on the morning of the 22nd, I sent another email and got - "I'm out of the office until the 9th" :eyebrow:. The other one still hasn't submitted my grade either. So much for sending out update letters over the break, or anytime soon for that matter since now they need to do an official change.

At least the snow and mountains have been awesome!

My last quarter at college, I took "the planets: for non-science majors" as a way to pad my gpa in molecular bio. After a near perfect score on the final, I received a B- in the class...none of my homework grades ever got recorded! When I pointed this out, the prof emailed back "I'm sorry, at this point it would be unfair to other students to change grades."
With that grade, I dropped just under a 3.7 which was the mark for graduating with honors.

**** the world. (But let's go save it!)

Great picture!

^thats when you take it to the next level - and make sure their boss knows they aren't doing their job properly. I can't imagine how pissed you were, I think i'd go nuclear . :boom:
UW has a system setup so if you disagree with a teacher on your grading you can appeal to the department head and dean.

Yeah. I would now. At the time I was moving far away home and done with college so I just decided **** ALL. I'm out.

This actually happened to me in an economics class, and the TA kept saying "I never got them, so I'm not giving you credit"
so I printed out every single one of the emails that I sent to him, highlighted the datestamp, and took them to the professor's office
my grade went from C- to an A because I got back 35 points of my average

File closed at top school... I shouldn't be surprised because I didn't submit until 11/3, but I'm 31 and feeling pretty down about how long this is taking. But at least I know and can now mentally stake a pale, and start prepping for May/June.

You are not alone. I am right where you are. 31 and all...

I did it! First MD acceptance a few weeks ago, and first DO acceptance last month- both my top choices. My stats were not spectacular. I kept checking SDN school-specific threads, but the general forum was depressing. My advice? Choose your top schools and find out what they want from you, and do whatever it takes to make that happen. I will be matriculating at a very competitive school next year, and it's only because I was persistent.

Hello fellow nontrads. Checking in here because I'm feeling a little neurotic since I've not heard anything from anywhere in a while. Argh. Hopefully the schools are as active as SDN this week. Kicking myself for applying SO LATE.
