2016 Nontrad Applicants' Progress Thread

No cat, but two coonhounds and a 14 hr drive to get home to see the family. Its great because when we get in the car, they think we're going to doggy daycare. So its barking and howling getting all excited. Right behind my head. Only takes them a good two hours to figure out that we aren't going to daycare and they can hush up. After that its just intermittent whining.

Eventually it does stop.

Our border collie loves to rub her nose on the window. So, after even a short drive you can barely see out through all the doggy-snot smears and sneezes.

@idontknowwhatnametopick and @gyrfalcon: I feel your pain! I am SO BUMMED about moving after all the work my husband and I have put into our current house. We even got married in the backyard. I am personally just denying the crap out of it until I at least know for sure where I'm headed. Still, there will be many literal tears shed.
Maybe next time you're in town you can break in to your old backyard. Or just ask the new owners
ok guys, I need opinions
I have had almost complete silence from 8 schools. 2 have me on interview wait lists. I'm at the point where I want to apply the full court press without getting people annoyed.

What can I do besides sending them a text saying "NOTICE ME"?
Send a letter of interest to all remaining schools, saying you'd really appreciate the opportunity to show why you think you'd be a great for their school. Maybe?
I'd do that. Did you already do that though? If so, I'm not sure what I'd do.

I did that mixed with an update letter

I submitted two more LOR, so I think I might be out of options

Nothing new on this front unfortunately. Although I did kill my biochem exam, and would have set the high score if I wasn't an idiot and changed a couple of my answers (multiple choice - and yes I know better) but the prof lovvvvves to do trick questions.

Also, dogs can have a lot of Benadryl check with vet on exact dosages, but one of our Berners got into a bottle when he was a (albeit very large) puppy, and they said not to even worry about it, they process it much dif. then we do.

oh and remember my friend that only applied to pitt and got an interview right away?

he got in.

GAH. Pitt is my my number 1. Huge massive reach. And I know it'll never happen. But a girl can dream, right?

I was so looking forward to moving somewhere new, after living in the seattle area nearly my whole life, and applied all over the country. As it stands I have two acceptances and, despite how I instantly fell in love with chicago, i cant justify loyola over UW just bc i liked the city. So I will be moving within seattle from my fancy, brand new hip (and oh so expensive) apartment in one neighborhood to a neighborhood closer to school and into what is bound to be an infinitely ****tier apartment. It will be nice to stay close to friends and family but I am so bummed to not have the opportunity to live in a new city. Have about 10 more schools to hear from, but after 6+ months of silence, im not holding my breath.

I picked up and moved to a new city 9 months after I graduated college. It's definitely a great experience... Would you have the means to travel until you matriculate? That might help

I had a brief jaunt up in Vancouver BC for a job that lasted a year and half and i loved that. And i agree, traveling is fantastic. I've made it to just over 30 countries in the world, so i've done a fair amount of traveling. But my home base has always been seattle. And sadly i do not have the means to travel at the moment as i'm trying to pay off my credit card debt that has accrued from all my previous trips. I will try to get in a long, multi-state bike trip before matriculating, however. Biking highway 101 anyone?!

Thanks for the suggestion!

I feel ya on that. I'm going to Indonesia in late March, then planning on going to South America or Australia in 2017 then in 2018 before I (hopefully) matriculate I'll go to Europe on my honeymoon. SO MUCH MONEY

We have 2 cats that will not survive in the car for an extended period of time. Our plan is to tranquilize them and fly them down/over to wherever we move to, which hopefully will minimize the trauma.
We have two cats and they're driving with us from Los Angeles to Boston. We started them young so they have no problem with the car. The harder part is finding pet friendly hotels.

On a positive note though UW is incredible.

Yes if I end up going to UW I'll do that with you this summer!!

That's a fantastic plan. Please make sure you go to Colombia while in S America. If you need any pointers, hit me up! 🙂

I was already rooting for you to get into UW, especially with the prospect of BBQs at your house, but now i'm an even bigger fan. Just tell me your name and i'll stop by the admissions office to advocate in person 🙂

If I get in I'll tell you my name and you can tell the admissions office they made a good decision 😛

I'm throwing up just because I'm so excited FOR you
Also, a friend of mine is a PGY1 at einstein right now and loves it, so congratulations!

You guys I just got accepted to Einstein and I am so worked up I might throw up.

are you guys seeing this mess on the Tufts thread?

so apparently the tufts application system broke today, and I read that they gave some applicants accidental access to an admissions committee members’ portal page, with all statistics and access to every applicant’s file.

Say whaaaat

yeah he/she posted a screenshot, but took it down after

Omg fascinating. I wanna see.
She took it down but the numbers were pretty interesting. Now I'm wondering how many schools that I haven't heard from yet have actually not even looked at my app... Schools take so much money from us, I really wish they'd be more transparent 🙁

What about the numbers made you think your app might not have ever been looked at?

This made me bust out laughing @ work

Hahaha. My wife and I have gotten in the habit of only responding to each other in memes (only have access to email at work so we usually communicate that way). I think it's carrying over to other areas of my life...

I actually got into Tufts in November so my app was definitely looked at. I'm just now wondering how many people get rejected simply because the school didn't have time to review their app. And since I have a few schools left that haven't given me any news, I'm wondering whether they haven't even read my file.

you want to know a fun feeling?
walking out of your classroom and seeing that the room across the hall is being used for med school interviews... and you still haven't gotten one from your home institution.

womp womp

Holy moly. It's probably safe to say they have an automated screen / algorithm that picks out apps to prioritize review. Still disheartening.
I looked at the thread and frankly, it felt like I was reading the script for Clue. No one has any idea how to interpret the data, so the easiest thing to do is make wild accusations and assumptions. Of course, the people most up in arms are those waiting on a decision. Hell, if my clients saw my work email, based on the number of "Unread" emails, they'd assume I don't actually do any work.

Tufts uses the same online software that Mt. Sinai, Maryland, Tulane, Keck, and a host of other colleges. And with each of those schools, they use it to varying degree. Hell, Maryland only sends mailed rejections - according to their portal, I'm still in consideration.

As for an algorithm, I'm sure there's some degree to which that's true. However, as an accepted Tufts applicant with a LizzyM of 64, I can't imagine what parameters would give me a fall interview.

Ya, it seemed much more dramatic as I was at work (with little to do) refreshing the page. I'm still waiting on Wake and Tufts, so now that they sent a few to the slaughter I'll just sit and continue theorizing. I want at least one interview!

Interesting timing, I got my tufts rejection today haha. Next cycle here we come!

tufts is back online

incoming wave of rejections
