So my girlfriend is already a doctor and I asked her if I could be a househusband and she yelled at me saying "I'm not going to let you waste 6 years of engineering education and research"

And I have also been researching vans - particularly how to convert a VW bus to full electric. It's not only possible, but pretty sweet.

I like the astronaut suggestion. I think I will apply next month when NASA accepts applications. I'm betting the application will be less annoying than the AMCAS.

In all seriousness, I brought up the possibility of reapplying to med school with my husband tonight. His face: 😱😱😱😕😕😕😱😱😱:bored::bored::bored: "You are planning on going through all this AGAIN???". He's supportive but concerned about the effects of the stress of applying. Well... two more interviews to go. Hopefully I can figure out why my interviews keep ending in waitlists before I run out of chances to improve!

Have you done any mock interviews, or have someone that could do a few with you?

Waitlists could turn into acceptances and you only need one. I've got my fingers crossed for you.
UT Austin's interviews are super different from usual interviews so maybe that will be great for you 🙂
 
I have 2 II IN Chicago, RF and UCI I Dunno
If I should attend, I don't think I am that psyched in Chicago because it is a big city. What should I do???

@B-wildered Would you choose one over your current acceptance? I assume if you applied, you would attend. 🙂

I really liked Chicago when I was there a little over a month ago. The neighborhoods really don't feel like a big city.
My concern with Chicago is the winters.

I've had so many successful (non-med-school) interviews in my life that I didn't feel that was necessary. I think the weak point of my interviews so far has been my explanation for "why medicine". I'm not sure that I am giving a convincing reason for going from computer science career -> neuroscience grad degree -> medicine. Fairly low clinical hours/shadowing probably isn't helping with that, either. I did go talk to my university's pre-med advisor today though and she set me up with a mock interview this week, so hopefully I will get some pointers before my interview at Dell in a few days.

RF is actually a ways outside the city proper, so it might be your thing if you don't actually want to be in the city.

UCI I've heard mixed reviews about. @DaenerysTargaryen might know more about it, she got accepted there.

I applied to over 30 schools, I have an acceptance at netter in Connecticut , and I liked the town and school. I am still waiting to hear from a few schools which would trump Chicago for sure. So the question is "
Are the Chicago schools better than netter which is a new schools. I liked Connecticut because I am also semi close to the ocean too sooooo[/QUOTE]

Even being successful in non-medical interviews sometimes doesn't quite translate. I did a couple mock interviews with doctors and I'm glad I did, because they helped me understand how to frame my answers in the needed contexts without being too blatant about it. You probably have good insight on your own interview flaws; someone actually listening to you might help you quite a bit. Good luck at Dell!!
 
@B-wildered , feel free to PM me if you want my thoughts on U of Illinois at Chicago! I think the primary consideration would be: are you in-state? If not, have you seen the OOS tuition? It is quite steep, though I don't know what your COA would be at Netter. But I did interview there and have been accepted, so I'm happy to offer more thoughts about the school via PM. 🙂
 
I need to see what dates are available for UI, because RF is in Feb and that's kinda of late for rolling admissions. I am also over traveling and spending money in this process, I rather go to a tropical place and hang out with that traveling money

Y'all kept saying UCI, so I was reading U of California Irvine.
It wasn't till @DaenerysTargaryen mentioned U of Illinois Chicago did the last 10-15 posts make sense to me.
Maybe that was a subtle hint from daenerys? :idea:

I got into my dream program that gives me the best shot at accomplishing all my goals and so withdrawing from everwhere else. Now need to figure out a good plan to transition out of my career, sell real estate and relocating (not fun..) within the next 7 months. Any former realty professionals wishing to offer me great free advice please PM! 🙂
 
I know many people in this thread are in the military or have formally served in the military. It would be wrong not to recognize all of you today on Veterans Day. Thank you to all of you and I sincerely wish you the best in your medical school pursuits.
 
New to the thread. Hi other nontrads! Been out of undergrad for 6 years, working in clinical research for the past 3 years. I've had 1 interview so far. Feeling super fortunate that it went really well but also totally freaked out, feeling like this might be my only shot. Should hear back in 9 days. Not that I'm counting or anything. :arghh:

I had another rejection drop today, too, although not Oakland (they had already said, "Thanks, but no thanks.") I had a day last week where three rejections dropped in one day... That was kind of rough.

It worked!
He was actually really nice to me and even said "yes, your previous work presents some baggage, but you just have to keep up how well you've been doing"

This is in STARK contrast to last year when we exchanged emails and he said that I had no shot.
