2017-2018 University of North Texas (TCOM) Discussion Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I didn't realize that submitting my application in September was considered late for TCOM. Does anyone know how late they offer interviews? And have people already started receiving interview invites?

I applied on August 23rd and haven't heard anything.

Yeah, they have definitely been conducting interviews. But don't worry too much! Apparently one of their admissions folks told another student that at this point, there are still plenty of interviews to offer. I'm doubtful they have even really reviewed my application yet, and I finished my secondary in July. There's plenty of time! (At least that's what I'm telling myself, lol)

Thank you!!! Haha, I'll keep telling myself that too then. Good luck!!

Anyone OOS applying to TCOM? Is it worth it?

Since they’re a public TX school, 90% of seats are reserved for IS. Up to you to decide if that’s worth it. I got an II at an MD in the Northeast that has accepted zero OOS some years (and was the only person not from the east coast on II day), so I think if you love the program it may be worth a shot, even if it’s a long one.

@amerepedestrian What stats would one need? I have a 3.7/3.6 and scoring 505 consistently so far on practice tests. I've heard it's an incredible program that really prepares students well for boards and match but I'm not a TX resident.

Both scores closely fit their matriculant averages. If you're still in school just try to keep the GPA up or raise it a little, and try to get a higher MCAT than 505. For the last entering class the average was 506. Looking into their class more closely, they accept even less than 10% OOS some years, so standing out stats-wise might not be a bad idea. Of course extracurriculars and how closely you fit their mission matters a lot, too.

I am taking the MCAT in a month so hopefully I can get up to my goal score of 510 or at least 508. I feel like I have pretty good EC's with 100 hours of shadowing, close to 2000 hours of clinical experience, a publication, and volunteering geared toward rural PC medicine.

Does anyone know if there is any preference/advantage if you're OOS but have strong ties to TX? I lived there for 15 years
