Y'all. My airbnb in Philly is super legit, which makes me super sad for all of the #forumfam who have had less than great experiences with Airbnbs lately.

But I have a dilemma. There is a highly rated pizza joint about a 10 minute walk up the road. I fully plan on eating this delicious pizza tonight for dinner (or like right this second because I've had some almonds and some biscoff cookies on the plane and that's basically it) and tomorrow for breakfast before my interview because leftover pizza is the #breakfastofchampions. Here's my dilemma. Apparently I'd have to cross a pretty big street to get there and it's super cold here. Like, there is snow on the ground. (I legit didn't recognize it from the plane, btw, I was like "what's that white stuff on the..oh, that's snow.") Anyway, here is the $6.62 question: do I walk there or Uber it? I'd like to get some steps in and do something other than sit...and I'd like to not expose myself (not to mention my pizza!) to the cold.

I would have the same dilemma. If you decide to walk, watch out for dark slippery patches. Learned that the hard way the very first day I stepped out in a snowy climate.

If you're taking the pizza home - UBER
If you're eating there - Walk

Or...if it's really cold just uber (I assume it's cold because it's snowing)

Sometimes a 10 minute walk isn't too bad in snow other times its awful.

Yeahhhh, no. If were to slip and fall and drop my pizza I think I might cry. I'll pay $6-7 for the Uber. #preciouscargo

However, if you do rank them, I believe you aren't penalized for doing so, the algorithm would just skip down to the next possible slot on your list. I love how people are pained over the poor unmatched theoretical candidates! I imagine thats how we would all be if we could watch this real time.
 
I almost missed my bus to the airport (a 2 hour drive) and now sitting in the airport super nervous because my first interview is tomorrow morning! In New Orleans! I don't think I prepped enough, will being warm and kind get me through? I hope cause I'm stressed and I don't have my acupuncture mat to de-stress! Plus I was in such a rush I didn't give a hug and kiss to my babies! Ok they aren't babies (6 and 3 yrs old) but they are my babies!

Perhaps the training committee member misunderstood, and was saying that they regularly didn't rank >50% of applicants, rather than >50% of interviewees?

Also, hope no one got caught in Hartsfield's power outage today.
 
I hope they ask me tomorrow how much pizza I can eat by myself. That's a question I can definitely answer.

Oh my gosh, I had no idea! I flew out of there this morning. Knowing I missed that chaos definitely makes up for having to get up at 4:15 a.m.

Unfortunately, I don't think she misunderstood! She explained that, at her site, they almost always matched within their top 5 ranked candidates, so they'd usually rank around 8-10 of the 20 applicants they interviewed. I'm hoping that the surprised reactions to my initial post means that this is actually unusual instead of simply unexpected and anxiety-provoking!

Is anyone, by any chance, stranded in Chicago because of the Atlanta hot mess and is going through Nashville instead (and then driving)? I need some company because driving till 2:30am for a 9:30am interview at Emory is going to be the worst!

I am a native new Orleanians and I can tell you that being warm and kind goes a significant way in terms of making a good impression. You’ve gotten this far so you have to be a very good clinician. all you have to do is be warm kind and the same clinician you are every single time you see patients and you’re golden.

As someone who loves makeup and likes doing fun things with makeup, I keep having to remind myself to do less adventurous things while getting ready for an interview. This morning I was like, “okay, Barbara Bush eyeliner....Barbara Bush eyebrows...nope, too much. Barbara Bush, we’re going for Barbara Bush...”

Good luck to all who are interviewing today, traveling, and still waiting to hear!!! 🙂

I have nothing helpful to offer except words of encouragement because this sounds rly tough but also a little bit exciting. I hope you get the right balance of caffeine/sugar/adrenaline to get you through the drive and the interview! I'm also anticipating that this will be me because I booked flights on whatever airline it was that accidentally let all of its pilots be on vacation at the same time.
 
Anyone hear from Rutgers (newark) adult track or manhattan psychiatric center? A friend of mine also is itching to know if anyone heard back from woodhull !

So Question for the Forum Fam:
My last site to hear from (Children's Institute) has a interview notification date of 1/10/18 (on the APPIC website) which doesn't make sense as it says their interviews and open house are mid January. This is the final site I am waiting for and would like to book my other flight but would also like to know if I have an interview or not as this site. Would it be "laggy" if I kindly emailed them today to clear up the notification date and find out if we will be hearing soon? I don't want to bug them if they are working hard on reviewing applications and I don't want to piss them off!

If you are really worried, I suggest trying to find out who the administrative contact is and calling that person directly. He or she is used to fielding multiple questions daily, and likely has been asked what you would like to ask already.You will probably get the most accurate response due to multiple changes that may have occurred over time with the notification date. In addition, no paper trail if you are really worried about coming off like a person who is bugging the program.

Now that I've started actually working on travel plans, I don't think it's unreasonable to seek clarification. I had in my notes that their tentative open house date was 1/19 so I tried to keep that open but I don't recall where I even saw that. Keep me posted if you learn anything!

we are def meant to be friends!!! I spend hourssssss watching makeup videos and trying to perfect my talent. If I get the question what would you be doing other than psychology? Easy peasy - you tube makeup star next question.

I actually don’t know how to contour without looking like I did a paint-by-numbers on my face, but I routinely make the wing on my (dark plum) eyeliner a smidge too long, and put enough highlighter on to signal to passing ships in the night. So I toned it down just a bit today :kiss:

Edit: I’m all about emulating confidence though. I’ve listened to the Queen herself, lady Beyoncé, nonstop since my first interview Friday.
 
Hi #forumfam! I am wondering if anyone might be willing to swap interview dates with me for MUSC? I am currently scheduled for Friday, 1/19, but would greatly prefer Saturday 1/20 or Monday, 1/22. I have an interview at Duke on 1/18 and because there are no direct flights from Raleigh-Durham to Charleston, I'm currently planning on driving the 4-5 hours straight from my Duke interview (which gets out at 5 pm) to MUSC. It's not ideal because these are both potential #wandsites for me and I also dislike driving long distances in the dark. Please feel free to message me!

I can't say for sure what yours would be, but we had one at my first interview that was an opportunity for the TD to tell us about the program and for us to ask her questions. We didn't get interviewed/asked questions during this time.

Also, anyone else heard from Monterey County Behavioral Health? They had us call today to schedule interviews, but didn’t send any written conformation of the chosen date or even relevant interview details (the person on the phone assumed I had all the info, which I didn’t). Seemed a little weird and was wondering if anyone else experienced something similar.
 
Are y'all bringing copies of your CV and essays with you on interviews? I have my first one on Wednesday, and I feel like I'm forgetting something.

I had my first one last week. I brought a few copies of my CV and my cover letter. But no one asked for it and they all seemed to know my material really well. I'd say to bring them just in case! I also didn't, but for my next interview will bring a list of questions that I had for the interns and faculty. Questions came up organically and I didn't have to use it, but I wanted it there (to look over during breaks) just in case I blanked out.
 
Still waiting on two more sites but Miami VA went ahead and sent me a second rejection. Thanks? I got the first one! Didn't need to read it again.

I did for my first couple, but I didn't need them as like @onwardsandup said it seemed like people had a really good sense of what was on them. I'll probably keep a couple of copies tucked in my lil portfolio thing just in case but I don't think we'll need them.
 
I interviewed at my dream site and got a very nice follow-up email from the TD, and am wondering how to say PICK ME PICK ME I PICK YOU I PICK YOU more subtly in my response without breaking APPIC rules. Don't worry y'all had some good suggestions a few pages ago.

I do not know, but I just wanted to reply and say AMAZINGGGGGGGGGG and AWESOMMEEEEEEE and that is something I did not even know could happen, but is now my dream.
