2018-2019 APPIC Internship Interview Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So General Track has heard, and Health Track has heard. I hope that the SMI/Dual Diagnosis Track is up next. And I'm sorry you had to wait to hear, but it has given me hope that I still have a chance!

Thanks so much for saying that! That’s exactly why I posted it, I was pleasantly surprised and I’m hopeful that your email is still coming!

In case anyone wanted an update, finally got a rejection email from UAB today. Just a week after everyone else. Cool cool. :smack:

Also, has anyone else heard from MUSC in a while? Their website says they do rolling invites over a period of a few weeks, but their December dates are coming up quick and I was hoping to knock out a couple places in December.

The reject was a non-personalized mass e-mail, so if you have heard nothing from HCMC yet, THERE IS STILL HOPE!! :nailbiting:

CONGRATULATIONS! I have heard from 0 out of 16 sites so far and am hoping this will be my first notification today. Random question so I can stop freaking out but what letter does your last name start with...just in case they are doing alphabetical emails (since it wasn't a mass email) THANKS! #tryingtostaycalm #checkingmyemailtoooften :help:

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to handle accepting interviews for sites that you might end up deciding not to interview at? For example, is it acceptable to accept an interview and lock down a date knowing that you might not attend if you get more interviews down the line? I don't want to take up a spot (knowing that someone else might be able to fill it), but on the other hand, I don't want to assume I will get other interviews and reject the interview and then regret it down the line, as I would be grateful to go to ANY of the sites I applied to! I guess my main question is whether it is considered bad form to cancel an interview down the line that you already accepted due to scheduling conflicts and financial considerations? Or do sites expect this will happen to a few spots and see it as part of the process?

I just got this rejection too :arghh:

Never to early for wine when it comes to internship interview notification

Has anyone gotten a rejection from UW or UCSD/SD yet? I’ve heard nothing from either and I just want to know, dammit!!!

I have the same question!! I saw a couple invites to both but haven't heard anything myself. I am waiting to hear for NP tracks/rotations.

Yes, I applied to all VA's (16 of them). Thinking of adding a few more now though... only 1 interview and 4 rejections! How about you?
I have a friend who did her internship at a VA, and she told me that sometimes no news from sites is a good thing. Apparently, sometimes they will interview people and have others on some sort of waitlist and invite them for interview a bit later if they didn't like people from the original batch. Something to that effect. So hang in there! 🙂

Same here. Not a great day for me. I'm impressed by how quick you all are to post on here! I thought I rushed over!

Okay now I'm freaking out..2 of my sites have been posted on here in the last hour with the exact tracks I applied for and I have radio silence over here 🙁 ugh still 0/16 #radiosilenceforever:bored:
Well looks like I'm going to go downstairs to the gym and run a few miles to get some workout therapy on... #runthestressaway

I don't have a good answer but I was wondering about this too...you could always ask for a phone or Skype interview. Right now I'm planning on going to as many as possible and being super poor afterwards...such is grad school life! 🙄

What position did you apply for? There are a couple VA focused positions...

I applied to LJ PTSD/Alc Drug TX, VA Sami/LJ PTSD, and VA BHIP/VA InPT. Substance Abuse tracks. My colleague applied to UCSD tracks (eating disorder-related). We both got the invite on the 20th as well, and received confirmation of our interviews the following day.

Most of my colleagues and I applied to both, and there have been interviews to both but no rejections so far!

Same, but for the general adult track...I am not assuming good news but I really wish they would let us know either way!

I have not heard an invite, a rejection, or any news of invites and rejections from any of my sites to other applicants in a full week. :help:

The one site I did hear from has a very high invite rate and is partially affiliated with schools that I don't think have good reputations/training. It also has some really negative reviews online from past employees and interns. **** it, all APA-approved internships lead to a single destination. Bring on the ****show site. :prof:

Also, bring on the peetzit!!!!

What would make you think those schools don't have good reputations/training?

Some perspective:
I got rejected at the program that I thought would have been my top choice the day before Thanksgiving in 2013. I was absolutely devestated. I moped around my moms house, and even threw in a few “I’m not thankful for anything’s.” I ended up matching with my first ranked spot. I saw a whole new part of the county, met a super hot engineer, made some lifelong friends, and worked my butt off to make professional connections and gain great clinical expertise. Fast forward to the day before Thanksgiving 2017. I’m sitting next to my super hot engineering husband about to head over to my moms house for some fun. I’m now a staff psychologist and internship/post doc supervisor at the site that rejected me 4 years ago today. Figured this might give you all some perspective. Just because you don’t get an interview somewhere doesn’t mean you’re not good enough. Just remember that. This process is a crap shoot, and everybody on both sides knows it. Happy thanksgiving!

I think I go to one of those schools lol. I honestly had no idea what that site was until it was posted here and I had no idea that any of our students even went there...so in that sense our school isn’t promoting it or anything.

Reading this forum, but I'll be the first to admit it's not a well-informed thought, which is why I phrased it that way instead of "schools that don't have good training."

I'd welcome being corrected, though. 🙂

I also realize online reviews are heavily swayed to the negative since it's those with girevances that typically are motivated to post them, so I'm definitely keeping a wide open mind.

Same here 🙁 I'm trying to keep myself calm by singing along to music at the top of my lungs while I drive...it's hard to freak out when you're singing right?? Not sure it's working though, I'm not feeling very sane right now.

This is now #goals. I'm looking forward to potentially exploring a new part of the country and finding a hot engineering boyfriend/husband!
