2018-2019 APPIC Internship Interview Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I use student universe when traveling. You Can usually get decent student discounts on flights/hotels through them.

@PedPsychPhD - Kayak has never failed when looking for cheap flights, and they note their confidence to buy/wait. Also, I've been booking airbnbs instead of hotels because so far they are $75-100 less than 1 night in a 3 star hotel room.

Helpful tip: if you use the "Express Deals" function on Priceline you can get amazing prices on hotels. I never knew it was a thing until my mom showed me. You say what location and what number of stars you want and it randomly picks one for you, which saves you extra money! I filtered results to include only 3+ star hotels and those with customer reviews of 8/10 or higher so that prevents you from getting anything sketch. I found some really nice hotels in multiple different cities for only 40-50 bucks a night including free parking

Edit: I was told Hotwire has this feature too, although I have not used that one.

I've never done airbnbs but the prices look cheap. Anyone have negative experiences with them?

Me too! Don't worry... an invite will come! :biglove:

Did anybody else hear from the University of Colorado? I wish they would send out the rejections and invites together. The radio silence is killing me right now :smack::smack::smack:

I wouldn't say it was a negative experience, but one time I stayed at an airbnb and the room was in the basement. It was an adorable, private, and clean set up, but it rained the day before so it was pretty dank in there. But all of my overnight stays for interviews will primarily be through airbnb - you can't really beat $30-$45 per night.

Also, there's a nation-wide hotel match-up spreadsheet going around. You post your interview date and city location, and you can get in touch with other interviewees to split hotel/airbnb costs. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post it here because it has identifying information on it. If anyone is interested in the link, PM me and I'll send it to you.

Or maybe @ForTheLoveOfPsych can let me know if I/they can post the link?

I've stayed in airbnb's for conferences and just general travel and have loved it! I've never had a bad experience. If I can find cheaper and close/convenient airbnbs I'll definitely stay in them for interviews.

I’ve used Airbnb for several years and never had a bad experience! Highly recommend. Also, I presented at a conference last year in a very expensive city and ended up booking a private room in a hostel that was actually amazing (hostelling international)- just like a hotel room but with a shared bathroom. Idk, might be a decent option if you’re not too shy! Also I was expecting to be wayyyy older than everyone but there was a decent range of people.

Of course. I don’t have these problems yet as I have one invite and am dying of silence over here +pity+

Awesome! Thank you both! Will definitely look into these 🙂

I'm exhausted and have to be an interview early in the morning. I don't want to leave my hotel room tonight, but I'm starving. I think we all know what this means.

#PEEEEEETTTTTTZIIITTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good luck @Hawkeye11 !!

I feel like we need to write our usernames on our nametags all secret-like.
We could all make a little squiggle in the top left-hand corner of our name tag, as our secret symbol. But to everyone else, it just looks like we had trouble getting our pen to work. But we know. We know...

Ok so maybe a hand signal. Scratch our heads for an inordinate amount of time? Sit very pensively and scholarly with our hand on our chin?
