I am planning to apply to medical schools this summer (2018) and am assuming that I'll apply using the 2018 Application? Just want to make sure before I put too much work into it.

The one up right now is not for new applicants. That's the last cycle one. They'll be the same but wait until May 1st for the 2019 cycle one to fill it in. Just start typing up your work/activities and personal statement in word then copy them over later.

Sounds good! Is the personal statement always the same year to year?

Awesome! So essentially the application is the same then. I have my statement pretty polished from other programs I applied to, so that should be pretty chill until secondaries come in! Thanks!
