Hey y'all! Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I'm starting this thread to discuss MIS/Bariatric surgery fellowship interviews as they come. Good luck to all!
 
Hi everyone,

I am applying MIS/bariatric surgery/advanced GI this year. I finalized and confirmed by application to the programs I wanted on December 2nd but I only had two of the four letters of recommendation uploaded. Does anyone know if the programs automatically get the other letters once they are uploaded, or do we have to inform them by email that the additional letters were uploaded? Thank you for any responses.

I don't know the answer to that but even if they got a notification from the website, I would still email the programs to make sure! Not to mention that my trust in the fellowship council website is a little less to begin with. Thankfully its not as expensive as ERAS but also not as smooth. Good luck with the interviews!

What are my chances?
I am training in AOA and ACGME accredited program. I have poor ABSITE scores hovering in the 15th percentile for the three years. My ACOS (American College of Osteopathic Surgeons) Inservice tests are better mostly in the 50th percentile. I have excellent LORs, one ongoing surgical research, and excellent operative numbers. I have applied to 110 programs across the country. I would appreciate your inputs. Thanks

Don’t worry about trying to estimate your chances. I have seen the most amazing candidates get struck down and the supposedly not so optimum candidates match well. So just do your best at the interviews and hope for the best.

Thanks so much for your advice. I am just hoping that I don't get stricken off before the interview due to my ABSITE sores.

I uploaded 4. I know my friend last year uploaded 5 even though he was planning to do 3. Apparently, 2 generous surgeons offered from their ends last minute. I think majority people do 3 LoRs. So, you should be good by all means.

I have 5 interviews right now (applied to 24). I wouldn't stress to much. I was always told that interviews don't really start going out until the 2nd or 3rd week of January. And some send them out really late... like up to the end of February.
