For this essay: Is becoming a physician a second career for you? If so, what was your first career choice? (2000 characters)

What if being a physician was always my first choice? Do I leave this blank? Sort of feel uncomfortable doing that though.

Leave it blank. The prompt says, “IF so” and does not apply to you.

You already answered “Why medicine?” with your personal statement so unless you’re non-trad answering this would be redundant

The website format reminds me of The Berkeley Review MCAT prep books/website lol.

If i went to school to do something else but switched out before even close to finishing should I write about it in my Is becoming a physician a second career for you? If so, what was your first career choice? (2000 characters) essay?

I talk about it in my 3rd essay anyways regarding unique educational situation/experiences and it wasn't really a career choice, just a year in school

I’d say no. You didn’t have another career.

For the 3rd prompt, would you guys say a diversity essay is better (growing up ESL and bicultural and having a hard time assimilating, but eventually embracing it, etc) or adversity (being raised by a single mother, then reaching out to my father when I got older)

Why are they 2 separate essays? ESL, single mother - these are hardships you had to go through. Those go together. Not so sure hard time assimilating and reaching out to father play a role in this 2000 character essay.

How are you able to see if you're complete? When I log in, I just see "School of Medicine Supplemental Application - Already Submitted" and a couple links to other pages.

I know Baylor Undergrad is known to be NOT especially LGBT+ friendly, and I'm wondering if the Med School is similar. If so, I would not waste my $ applying since a huge part of my primary app discusses LGBT health.

Also can students establish residency after a year or no, because they are not gainfully employed in Texas?
The med school is more LGBT friendly and is in a different city. Also, Baylor is a private school, so being a resident doesn't matter so much for tuition purposes (and tuition at Baylor is cheap).

BCM is no longer connected to Baylor University

@EmbryonalCarcinoma is right on both points here. Houston is LGBTQ friendly, and is a cosmopolitan city very unlike Waco Texas, the location of the undergrad university.

Baylor college of Medicine is unaffiliated with Baylor University.
There are many different ways to establish residency. Many buy a condo or a piece of land. The difference between instate and out of state not a high amount compared to other private schools.

Tuition and Fees$19,723$32,823

One issue for OOS is that there are about 16 seats for OOS outside of MD/PhD.

Hi everyone,

I recently submitted my secondary application, however, when checking my application status, I see the following message "We have not received one or more of your letters of recommendation, supplemental application, and supplemental application fee. " Anyone else having this problem?

Thanks!

Yea, to the above points. Living in Houston right now, the city is extremely friendly and accepting. Furthermore the entire Texas Medical Center is very friendly. Most of the doctors are really young too.

Would you guys suggest answering the gap year question as more of a listing where i talk about my goals and then some of the notable activites briefly? i feel i have done this already in the activities section

or would you suggest picking two or so activites and going into depth about them and then just quickly mentioning the rest. i feel this is really similar to most meaninful/activity descriptions too

thanks! i dont want it to come off as too list-y but i feel that's closer to what they want

Is anyone else having problems with Baylor receiving LoR's? They say they don't have mine and told me to confirm with AMCAS that they delivered them (which I did), but still no change.

Is becoming a physician a second career for you? If so, what was your first career choice?

what are they even looking for here? like what you did? why you did it? seems really broad

if you are applying straight from college, no -
if you worked doing something else before applying to med school, tell about it.

For Baylor MSTP, when they say 4 max letters with a minimum of 1 additional letters from research supervisors, do we think that means I can submit multiple letters from research supervisors even if it exceeds the 4 letter MD limit?

not to sound snarky but I think max 4 letters means max 4 letters - I wouldn't push it!

you don't sound snarky at all! I was just confused my the wording because the portal asks us to list letters from all research supervisors, and this says "a minimum of one additional letters" on top of the 4, which made me think we coudl submit more than that if we had more research supervisors? more of a confusion with phrasing than me trying to push a limit 🙂

Edit: The date assigned is the same as McGovern. Hopefully can change the date.
I can't go to my assigned date, either, but for personal (not another interview) reasons. Did you select this option on the form?

I will be unable to attend the scheduled interview date. Please have someone from the Admissions Office contact me for an alternative date.
