2020-2021 Waitlist Support Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Man, waking up to an A tomorrow would be such a surreal feeling.
I constantly dream about this, HAHA. I have a gap year job lined up already but I can’t commit myself to it whole-heartedly, knowing I still have a chance at an A. Hoping for the best for you!!

Thanks man!! I appreciate your kind words, your support, and your belief!! I've lost most of my hope, but I'm coming to terms that it's not the end of the world if I don't get in. Wishing the best for you and praying for you!
I don't want to sound too much like a coach, therapist or cheerleader, but, given your stats, the number of WLs, and the fact that it's still the weekend immediately after the PTE deadline, it really is several weeks too soon to be coming to terms with anything.

You are very likely going to be very relieved (and, apparently, very surprised) when you see I was right in the next few weeks.

I also don't mean to get your hopes up too high, but you've been cautiously optimistic throughout the cycle -- what's the harm in hanging in there for a few more weeks????????? 🙂

Every time I hear of someone getting accepted off of a school im WLed at, my soul dies a little bit 🙁
While this feeling is very understandable, and what I'm about to say might sound counterintuitive, please hear me out.

Your relative spot on every WL is fixed at this point. The only variable at each school for you now will be how much movement each school has.

Every call they make, even if it doesn't go to you, puts you one spot closer to receiving a call. You should therefore be thrilled they are making calls at all. Remember, calls could lead to more calls if they get turned down, or if the people receiving calls give up a spot at one of your 4 other WL schools.

No calls mean no action, and no action means you aren't going anywhere, no matter high up you might be on a list, if a school isn't going to have movement. JMHO. I understand disappointment, but calls are good, even if they aren't going to you, YET, and 5/2 is EARLY!!!!

What a nice thing to say. Sorry to butt myself in this nice little convo, but as someone on only 2 WLs, reading this made me feel hopeful too 😭♥️ Thank you hehe

Several people with only 1 WL have already reported cashing them in, so there is absolutely no reason to apologize or to not be hopeful. The more shots the better, but, it really does only take one, and you have two!!! Good luck!!!

Do you think schools are more likely to give people an A if they don't already have one (ie if they're on waitlists only)?
Maaaybe at the very end of the cycle, but, not now. They all just want the best people they can get. There is still plenty of time for the chairs to shuffle.

Remember, every open seat will ultimately result in someone without an A right now receiving a call. It might be three calls from now, at a totally different school, but, it has to happen.

I'm here begging the kind, patient and deserving people of the WL gang to manifest for me this week, as I too, manifest for you. Let us manifest together.

So I was waitlisted at Miami pretty recently and it's the only school that I have yet to send a letter of interest to. Probably too late to send out now right? It won't do much to change my spot on the waitlist?

Probably, but it definitely won't hurt, so there is no reason not to!!! 🙂

Not to mention, if you only recently received the notification, it's not like you could have done it before!

Question: For update letters and letters of interest/intent, would it be recommended to include URLs to any articles that have been published about you or your leadership work? I’ve had recent projects profiled in local news pieces, for example. Would it be acceptable to paste those URLs into the portal (with descriptions, of course)?

Since many ADCOMS are work from home in their own personal computers, they will not likely click on any links from unknown sources. However, you can say “The Bjorn Foundation for Ancient Cheese wrote an article about my crucial role in the restoration of the cupcake palace of the Kingdom of Atropia.” And if they really care they will Google it.

If the waitlist you’re on is ranked, does sending a LOI or Interest really help at all?

I tend to think it wouldn't. Do they tell you your rank? If not then maybe a letter could change your position?
Yea they didn’t tell me my rank so that’s why I was just wondering. Like I’ve sent a couple letters but idk if I was just wasting time and making myself feel like I’m staying busy lol

Just woke up to my first acceptance off the waitlist!! So excited that I will not have to take a gap year. Received a scholarship as well! I wish everyone else waiting here the best of luck!

At this point, no. Ranked is ranked, and they are obligated to go in strict order. They are not going to meet again and re-rank the entire list every time someone sends them new information after they have ranked the list.

Not really. If it's ranked, it doesn't matter whether or not they have disclosed your rank to you. The rank is locked in, and it doesn't change. By the way, this is why most adcoms DO NOT use ranked lists. They like the flexibility of being able to respond to new information, or to react to a late LOI if they want a last minute, highly motivated person to fill a late vacancy.

Congratulations!!! May I ask what school it was?

for those of you have gone from WL to A, im just curious, for the school's accepted FB pages, have people just been hanging out on the page even if they're not going? just curious because that was my guess when looking at my school of interest.

@TheDirtiestDiaper bro im praying and manifestinng for u so hard my man. In fact, my diaper is filled in solidarity with you. Letss gettt this A!!!!
I'm so grateful I have you to commiserate with, but I'm terribly sorry you're going through this with me. May us all rejoice in fruitful acceptances in the coming weeks (hours pls).

This isn’t exactly true for some schools. I am waitlisted at a school that has three tiers. I am on the top tier, but they recently accepted people off the 2nd tier. They try to match demographics/interests to keep the diversity of the class and this means going into the 2nd tier even when 1st tier students are remaining (i.e. an OOS student leaves —> OOS student accepted). But it’s debatable on whether this is considered a “ranked” list. It seems pretty specific to this one school

Y'all helped me manifest that A! Woke up to that phone call. Super grateful to you guys for making the past two weeks a lot less stressful with the memes and discussion. Wishing the best for you guys in getting that A(s) 🙂

Hi all, I am on the WL for my top choice and I don't know if it's worth it to resend my letter of Intent. I sent the LOI back in January after my interview because ADCOMS said to send anything you want to be considered in your app before final decisions were made. Unfortunately, I was still waitlisted. I already sent an update after the LOI in march but I do not have any other relevant updates to send since I work full time as an Engineer. Do you guys think I should just re-send my LOI or update it a little bit and send it again?
