This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi guys! anyone have any input/anecdotes/info about the waitlists at any of the following schools? NYMC, UCONN, Quinnipiac, Einstein, NYU LI. I don't know my ranking on any besides Einstein, and I am not high priority

Go on the school specific threads from the last 2 cycles -- thats the best way to see.

I was on 3. Got off my first choice school early May and withdrew the other two. Probably would have gotten off atleast 1 of the remaning two as well because those two schools had heavy movement too. I would recommend not getting too excited and withdrawing your waitlists and commiting to enroll immediately after your first A like I did as I was left with no bargaining power for tutition afterwards haha.

Also for reference out of the 10 friends who applied with me last year 4/10 of us got in off the waitlist.

Thank you man. This stuff is reassuring to hear during these uncertain times. Anyone else have any success stories?

did you have any correspondence with the school after you were waitlisted like LOI/update?
The problem is we will never know. We will never know if the update/ LOI helped us get in off the waitlist. Every person that sends an LOI and eventually gets accepted thinks it works. And the ones who send an LOI and don't get in usually aren't very vocal about it. Its impossible to know whether its causation or correlation. The best you can do is send it. And pray.

I know each school is different, but has anyone heard anything about how updates are reviewed at some places? For example, does your interviewer read it and then brief at the next committee meeting or does one person just read all the updates coming in?

also, should we send our FAFSA to schools we are waitlisted at?

At this point, how updates are reviewed doesnt really matter as long as u send them to show continued interest.
Edit: just add them to the list on fafsa; i think fin aid doesnt process it until you’re accepted

you think if we add the school to fafsa, the admissions committee would see that and ti helps express the interest?

I think the communication goes the other way, adcoms tell fin aid that you're accepted first then fin aid begins processing your docs. if you get off a wl in the summer, you might have to make a decision fast and don't want to make a decision without knowing your financial aid

You should add any school you interviewed at now, so they can have your info and quickly make a package if accepted. It will not make it any more likely to receive an acceptance though.

I said I would return to this thread to ease the anxiety as it helped me when I was stressed last year, but first some advice.
I applied last year and got waitlisted and never came off. It sucks but this year I got in early.
My advice is to work on improving your app through activities(if possible) and writing new essays NOW.
Hope this advice helps people and now for a few memes I made last cycle that hopefully can bring some laughter during this long wait.
Good luck to everyone.

Congratulations to @Porpoiseman12345 and best of luck to everyone on this thread!!

I'm sort of new here so I'm very sorry if this has already been asked or is not the proper place please just let me know.

I am currently waitlisted at my top choice and submitted two supplemental LORs via AMCAS as updates since I know they would be strong and add new information to my app. I didn't even think about asking the school first if they accept these or not. I feel like an idiot but it did not even cross my mind since I read this that suggested sending in letters (Medical school applicants: Waitlisted? Want more interviews? Here's what you can do.).

I just came across a past thread on here where they explained that this isn't really a good idea since your AMCAS file is closed and reviewed already and therefore can break protocol and can just look like you can't follow instructions. I since double checked and see on their website it says any supplemental LORs must be received by December 15.

I emailed the school recently asking them a different question about the formatting that my recommender had asked me after a supplemental one was already submitted and they answered it nicely and did not mention anything about not accepting these anymore.

Will this be viewed negatively? I'm really worried this is a bad look... but am confused since they didn't say anything in their email response about it

Don’t worry, this is totally fine! They would have told you if they didn’t want you to send it. Worst case scenario they won’t be looked at, but best case scenario it shows your interest in the school and your attempts to improve your app. Good luck!

This is gonna sound wack, but is it going to hurt me if I dont sent updates or LOI to any school I'm WL at?

So, I'm on the wait-list at the following schools:

Temple
Hofstra (HPWL)
Stony Brook
Downstate
NYU LI
Tulane
SLU

I've tried going through the school specific threads from previous years but can't find much info on WL movement. Anyone have ideas on how the WL movement is at these schools?

Thanks!

Not at all. It is important to remember that by the time you are on the wait list at most schools you have already been fully evaluated by the committee and form here forward the waitlist is usually decided by the dean or a small group of committee members with the dean. Most likely, you have a score already and you are already ranked. Letters of Intent carry weight at very few schools-- at some its a check of a box that you are still interested. It may be worth just sending a short letter updating them that you are still interested. But will it hurt you? NO.

Im also on the WL at Temple. During my interview the students said that a significant amount of students get off the wait list. unfortunately there isnt much more we can do but wait

anyone else just wake up anxious lately waiting to hear back? stuck on 4 WLs and with may approaching its like each day the suspense just gets worst. neeeeeeed an A but each day that goes by without one makes me more nervous that I won't ever be getting one 🙁
I don’t know why, but today I woke up more anxious than usual. I actually felt like it was a decision day even though it’s just a random Tuesday in April. Let’s hope for the best!

The fact that Texas apps (TMDSAS) open again in 2.5 weeks........
Time to finish the last semester of undergrad, mcat study, job hunt to find a place before my parents kick me out, get updated letter of recs, write a new personal statement and new essays again, etc etc
I feel like my chance of getting off the WL is less than 1%. I hate everything !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This life is truly a JOKE
It feels like someone is stepping on my chest from this crippling stress
thanks for coming to my ted talk

How many waitlists are you on?

do we expect much WL movement soon given people need to drop to 3 acceptances today? or not much movement till May?

I've been glued to my email convinced today is the day but I think its more realistic to expect movement in may 🤣
Wellllll, it IS 4/15, and people will start reducing from 3 As to 1, so it's not crazy to expect to start to see some movement from today forward, although, you are correct, the bulk of the movement will occur when everyone is forced to reduce to one A on 4/30.

Look on the bright side. I know a friend applying this upcoming year. She’s had her MCAT date cancelled twice already, and now has to take it in July. She’ll probably have to start applying with an estimate of what her score will be.

I submitted in Sept and still got like 10 interviews. She’ll be fine if she has a solid app and earns a decent score. She can submit to a throwaway school to be verified and then pre write secondaries while she waits for her score. It’ll be hard to craft a school list without knowing your mcat score, so hopefully it doesn’t come to that

And, to keep the thread on track. . . I ended up with a full ride from my top choice off the wait list in April my cycle. KEEP HOPE ALIVE!!

Yep I agree. Not to mention, from the admissions office perspective, they'd have a lot less work to do if they just waited until the bulk of accepted application action happens in May. Why put the committee together twice in the next few weeks if they can just do it once on say, May 4 or 5 when they have a really good picture of how big their waitlist pull needs to be.

I am considering applying to a SMP as a backup plan. Could applying to a SMP possibly jeopardize my chances of getting accepted off of a waitlist? Will medical schools be able to see if I have applied or been accepted to a SMP since most postbac programs utilize the Liaison-powered Centralized Application Service?

Even if they could, I doubt you'd get docked for it. If anything that shows initiative, and that you're not waiting around.

I'm so grateful to have found this thread! I had one II and am currently waitlisted at that school. I think I echo a lot of other people here when I say between being waitlisted, considering the need to reapply, and COVID-19 my mind is going a mile a minute! Keeping my fingers crossed for us all!

Should waitlisted applicants be completing immunizations requirements? (Titers, TB tests, etc)

Schools are adjusting their deadlines and being more flexible with COVID so I think it'll be fine to complete them later
