2020 Cycle Waitlist Support Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What is worse than seeing no movement on the waitlist? Knowing they are calling people and your phone is not ringing.
Just had three missed calls from the same number. It was from a charity. I decided to give anyway just because of that brief spurt of dopamine I melted from when I was calling back with hope...

how about your friends and you are both applying this year, and you were both sitting on waitlist no A last week, somehow they are getting the call now and flex on you while you have nothing

Your friend didn't have to lord his Acceptance over you, but cheer up--our time is coming!

Probably a super dumb question but I'm just finding new things to freak out about--if you don't pick up when schools call with an acceptance offer, it's not like they'll give up on you and move on to the next person, right? They'll just email instead or something? (I can't remember if I gave out my home or cell number, and I don't have access to my home phone/voicemail right now.)

Some schools call, others email. If they call and you dont answer, most likely they will leave a voicemail. And I'm assuming they give you a few days or up to 2 weeks or something to accept their offer before giving your spot up to someone else

I promise you'll be fine! Just check your email-you will almost always get an email notification even if you miss an acceptance call.

I think if your score is 510 or greater then you should not have to retake it.
it will also depend of your race, state, and gpa. The average matriculant from CA has a 513 and 3.75, and most leave the state to attend medical school. Anything below these stats and you are fighting a head wind, if you are an ORM applicant.

Isn’t that an average though? You’re also more than your GPA and MCAT. Adcoms looks at experiences and if you’re a fit for their school

Anyone know of any resources specific to Reapplicants? In terms of application development and what reapplicants should definitely make sure to address and stuff? Is this even a thing?
I’d ask the schools you were waitlisted/rejected at for feedback. Some schools give it out and that’s super valuable

Exact same thing happened to be yesterday!!! I am STOKEDDD for her but I’m like dang now I’m really in this alone lol. We always edited each other’s essays and were gonna mcat study together all summer
Disclaimer tho: she wasn’t flexing in me she was very nice about it

Found this thread a while back and wanted to post in the hopes of some stress relief haha. On 5 waitlists and finding it a struggle to start preparing for reapplication. Been feeling more anxious than usual this week but still having hope (I'm just afraid though it's all just wishful thinking). It's good to know at least I am not alone in this process. Hoping for the best on all here!

Fellas, just everyone take a deep breath. Stop checking SDN, stop checking AMCAS, stop refreshing email. This is a long process. There is not gonna be a sudden flood of WL movement. You are most likely going to be waiting weeks or months to hear from schools. Try to live normally and I promise the time will pass by quicker.

quick question: starting and submitting a reapplication doesn't affect WL positions right?

You ain’t wrong. But I think what’s happening is that we told ourselves that our dreams would magically come true after April 30 and then that didn’t happen (because why would life suddenly be easy for us??) so now we are short circuiting like the neurotic pre-meds we are. Basically I’m a clown.

I have an appointment with an admissions officer in a little bit about my waitlist decision. Any questions that y'all think are important to ask them?
Do you know their policy of how they pull from the WL (ranked vs unranked)? If it’s unranked, maybe ask how do they choose for seats as they open up?

How full is the class? (Not sure if they have access to this info) Do they have info on when the class filled up or any prior history on when people got off the WL? (Like what was the latest someone got off)

How generous are they with financial aid or any accommodations for people taken off the WL after April 30th?

How long do you have to accept their offer?

How do they deal with existential crises and relate to WLed souls who might experience them?

What is their proficiency in the comprehension of memes?
