For those who have interviewed with TCOM recently, what is the interview like?

I know there's an NDA on the actual questions so no need to get too much into specifics but would appreciate some general insights.

Also curious how they manage to conduct MMI format virtually since you don't have physical stations you can rotate between. Thanks in advance!

They just ZOOM you from one electronic room to another

Congratulations to those who have had interviews and are waiting to hear back! Please message me or comment if you have any questions! I was in your shoes last year and it is stressful so just let me know how I can help!

How was your interview and what advice would you have going into it?

I looked at my notes from the interview and from what I can remember it felt very relaxed and organized (which I can't say for all my interviews lol) Everyone was super nice and respectful. I feel like the students that I interacted with were really passionate about the school but also really chill which I liked. My advice is to just be yourself and know that they invited you to interview for a reason! Someone read your application and said I want to know more about them and see if they would be a good fit at my school. Show them why you would be a good fit! On the other hand you are also interviewing TCOM to see if it is a good fit for you! Make sure to ask good questions and see if you can envision yourself going to school here. Be professional and know that you got this! 🙂

This is very helpful, thank you!!!

Curious to hear anybody’s thoughts on what’s going on at TCOM with the dean stepping down and the bio skills lab being permanently closed. How would this impact student education or accreditation of the school?

I just realized its optional so I guess it doesn't matter right now.

Hello, I'm a current OMS-I at TCOM.

Accreditation will not be affected and student education is to continue on without interruption for all programs. However, many of us are refusing to continue to dissect until there is full transparency that the bodies that we are working with have been obtained in an ethical manner. A lot of us are also refusing to continue to dissect completely as the investigation continues on.

It has been a very stressful time, but I hope this does not deter any of you from applying. However, it is completely understandable if you decide not to. Feel free to ask me any questions. Best of luck to you all!

EDIT: I would also like to remind you all that this is a Texas-wide issue, as the use of unclaimed bodies for medical education is legal in the state. But yes, UNTHSC is called out on it, rightfully so.

I meant to add on this, but the dean stepping down is unrelated to what is going on with the cadavers. This is a whole different issue and it's honestly not that serious lol.

If you're able to answer, are the interviews open file or closed file?

Is it too late to apply here as OOS
This school does not use the AACOMAS app portal, so if you haven't completed the TMDSAS app it's pretty late to be starting on that.
Technically you could submit the TMDSAS app until Nov1. Maximum number of OOS accepted is 10%.

@wysdoc is it too early to send an interest/update email to admissions? LM 63 but my application is pretty good otherwise and I'd love to attend TCOM

You can send one if you have something new to tell them about: New grades (those probably won't be out yet unless you took summer term courses), new job, new research or etc.
If nothing has changed since your submission, it's probably not going to help

Does TCOM tend to be pre-match heavy or give out majority of offers on Match Day? Only 15 days until pre-matches can come out which is hard to believe!

Are those first prematches normally for people who interviewed earlier on in the cycle?
They must have interviewed early enough that there has been a committee meeting since their interview.
And of course if you haven't interviewed yet you can't get one.

New here. I got the survey email today morning asking about feedback about the interview process.. does that mean anything, kind of auto reject?

No, admissions decisions would not be given out until after october 15, I think it is just a feedback process. I went into the portal and my application still says review in progress.

Interviewed today, they said post-interview reviews typically take place about 4 weeks afterwards and go through multiple reviewers, so its likely everyone up until early September is in consideration for the upcoming pre-match.

Anyone get the Early Decision offer from TCOM? I think today or tomorrow was the deadline for them to make the ED offer decisions.

This might be a dumb question but how do you check the status of your application? I submitted my secondary in July however every time I log in it just shows my app and no where to check status

Click on Admissions when you log on (top middle button when you log in), and then it should take you to a page where they show your Admission Status on the right window (under Application Date / Number / Academic Plan applied)

Anybody know what the turnaround time has been with TCOM from interview to acceptance? With a 9/24 interview would a 10/16 decision be possible or do they take longer?

How much weight would running out of time to answer a follow-up question on an MMI station have on their interview rating process?

Hi all,

Unfortunately after going through AACOMAS cycle, I found out about TCOM late which is through TMDSAS. I am currently on the fence of applying there being OOS.

Stats:
3.77 cGPA, 3.75 sGPA
Most recent MCAT: 512 (128/124/128/132)
Non-trad/mature with 5 gap years
+ 1000 hours of skilled nursing
+ 500 hours urology scribe
* some DO shadowing done this summer + other physician shadowing from many years prior
+ Over 100 hour of Hospice and blood donor ambassador + after-school assistant for low-income household (older EC's)

Should I still go ahead and applying for TCOM given its October (also financially tight budget)?
I think its up to you. One thing to remember is TMDSAS schools have a rule that they can only take 10% or less of their class as OOS. So a class of 200 they can take less than 20. That is not great odds. TCOM is known for being pretty selective. However, you do have great STATS. I think it is up to you as it is late in the cycle. If you have the money it wouldn't hurt, but know it is a hard program to get into as OOS.

Does anyone know how fast TCOM gets added to the ranking page on TMDSAS post-interview? I can only see the school I interviewed at after them.

Hello! So our stats are pretty similar except you have a lot more clinical hours which TCOM loves and Im OOS and got in. It is fairly late in the cycle but if you are applying to TCOM, you can pay the flat fee and apply to all the texas schools and shoot your shot. With your stats, Im sure you can get into a school through AACOMAS so its totally up to you and i think you would have a decent shot with TCOM or Sam Houston in Conroe if you had applied earlier. Because its so late, I would personally not do it just cuz of rolling admissions but like i said its up to you.
