Hi! I noticed past years have a separate thread for PRIME-LA, so I'm starting one for us to support each other while we wait for decisions. I was in the first interview round. How are you all feeling about the program so far and post interview?

Also, good luck to those with upcoming interviews!

Is there a post II rate for PRIME?

thanks for making this thread!! Wishing everyone the best of luck ❤️🍀

Yes, I think it's around 19% like @xxpremedxx said! They accept just enough students to fill the 19ish seats, and there might be some waitlist movement as people withdraw their acceptances. Rooting for us all! 🙌

I think it's an 18-member cohort and they interview 96, so around 19%? There is some waitlist movement afaik though

Wait how do you know they interview 96? Also they don't over-admit at all?

They still have PRIME full rides right

yes, multiple scholarships were mentioned on interview day.

They told us on interview day that there’s 32 people per day and there’s 3 interview days. Also, Dr Moreno said very little waitlist movement unfortunately. Not sure if they over admit though

Yeah, I knew WL movement was limited, but I had assumed they overadmit, so I was just curious where @lotusflwr got that info from. Thanks for the source on the 96!

Is this everyones top choice, and did yall interview w/ Traditional MD too? I'm guessing the yield is pretty high since they only interview very mission aligned people.

I only interviewed for PRIME but it's def my top choice!! But tbh I'm just so grateful to have received an interview I feel like overall it was a really great interview process 🥹

I think they mentioned on interview day as well, but I also spoke with some current students who confirmed that PRIME does not overadmit

definitely my top choice!! I can't imagine getting through medical school without a close-knit community like PRIME offers. I interviewed with trad as well and would love to know more about UHEP from the current student perspective. Has anyone heard anything about UHEP or how the cohort culture might be similar/different from PRIME?

I've heard UHEP is similar, but generally a bit less tight knit / work together at all times than PRIME. I've heard UHEP students still feel closer to DGSOM Trad MD students than PRIME students, but the program sounds really cool. This is from my n = 1 friend, but he seems to enjoy UHEP.

that's great to know, thank you!

does PRIME accept update letters or letters of interest?

If you’re referring to full ride scholarships, no. They only give you $20k PRIME scholarship per year and then tuitions & fees waived for masters year. I have a friend in PRIME LA tell me that they’re interviewed more candidates this year because they anticipate more students turning down the spot in favor of other schools that give better funding like Kaiser or UCSF.

so do you know if they anticipate admitting more people than a typical year? Apparently they don't over-accept. so they're just trying to have a large WL? Is this due to the BBB changes?

I wonder if the same is true for Trad MD also, just wanna get in at DGSOM one way or the other, tho ofc, PRIME sounds awesome

This is true, although some folks receive other institutional scholarships on top of the usual PRIME package. I think admitted PRIME students are also under consideration for Leaders of Tomorrow (merit-based full tuition scholarship) and LA Cares (merit-based full-ride scholarship).

How many applicants does Prime LA get?

From what Dr. Moreno said, the WL is very very short, so they may slightly overaccept based on yield percent data from past years

Is anyone else feeling stressed by all the waiting and uncertainty? How are you taking care of yourselves during this time?

Very stressed. Just hoping it comes soon, do we know when As will come out for PRIME. As for self care, I am not taking care of myself at all and just dying from the stress.

Same same. Hang in there! They said we should know by late Feb - early March. It looks like acceptances usually drop around the middle of the last week of February based on past SDN threads (2/25ish). Usually there is a day or two of acceptance calls followed by waitlist emails the next day and then rejections drop on the last day (or weeks later).
