2025-2026 Vermont Secondary Essay Prompts:

1. The Larner College of Medicine curriculum emphasizes active in-person participation and peer co-learning. This relies on individual students preparing for, and being actively involved in, participatory class sessions. Please share your thoughts on the suitability of active learning for you. Consider the points below to guide your response. (Maximum 400 word count).
  • The value of balancing your learning with the teaching of your classmates.
  • Any potential challenges to this approach to learning.
  • Personal contributions to such a learning environment and areas of growth.
  • Examples of navigating a group learning process such as a flipped classroom experience.
2. The Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont recognizes that diversity extends beyond chosen and unchosen identities and encompasses an individual’s entire experiences. Diverse environments can promote growth and provide an opportunity for reflection. Reflect on a time you learned something from someone or a group of people who are unlike yourself and how that challenged your preconceptions or biases. How will this experience influence your behavior in the future? (Maximum 400 word count)

3. The Larner College of Medicine has core values that are reflected in our professionalism statement. How has your understanding of what professionalism means evolved over time? Reflect on a personal experience that contributed to your understanding of your own core values. (Maximum 300 word count)

4. What unique opportunities at Larner College of Medicine would be meaningful to you in your education and how do these align with your larger goal of becoming a physician? (Maximum 250 word count).

5. Use this space to share any information, not presented elsewhere, that will clarify any aspect of your application. If you are a reapplicant, you may choose to share what you have done since your previous application. (Maximum 250 word count)

Good luck to all applying!

Anyone else's Casper saying not received? Tested 5/2 and got results awhile ago but it's not populating on secondary portal.

can anyone explain the first prompt to me like I’m dumb? I can’t understand what they’re getting at even with the suggestions

Do you think you'll enjoy in class learning, and a flipped classroom style? Do you like to prepare independently before class, and do you value teaching your peers as a way to enforce material you've studied?

I basically used examples from my past experiences to enforce why I would enjoy it/do well with certain aspects of it

Thank you you’re the best I’m not sure why I was stroking out trying to read that question :,)

Has anyone not received there secondary? I haven’t received there’s yet but I’ve received almost all of the others schools I applied too. Any help or guidance would be appreciated!

Any chance it could be in your spam/junk folder?

No, not in there. A couple of my friends got there’s on Saturday. Still haven’t received mine yet. Been contemplating sending and email but don’t want to be a pest.

Work on your other ones and remember that all schools just got a huge influx of primaries on June 27. The smaller schools have fewer office staff to enter & process information.

is this an OOS friendly school :') some of their mission aspects really appeal to me but not sure if it's worth my time if they have a heavy IS bias.

They have a heavy in-state bias because there are so few in-state applicants. I am lucky to be in-state for them, but I would suggest applying if interested!

Literally speaking they highly favor IS applicants. But practically, there are so few that they end up interviewing and matriculating a large number of OOS students.

I think it's asking like "Hey, we're a school that puts a focus on class engagement over getting lectured at. I.e. you may be called upon in class to do group projects, study together, do presentations, etc. Do you have experience with this? How have you done stuff like this / learned this way in the past? Does it sound like something you'd enjoy?"

I have no idea why on earth they'd ask something like this, but they might be trying to weed out people who aren't "team players", which, depending on how you read it, could be a bit of a red flag. They also worded it in a super confusing manner. Does any of that make sense?
