Since VMCAS opened back in January for this current cycle, that means there's much more time available for applicants to have their essays read/reviewed/edited than in previous years. Much more time to polish things up and make them as perfect as possible. 🙂

To applicants: You can send a PM regarding your essays to any of the members on the Current Readers list! Just the click the mail icon next to your username on the top right navigation bar/menu, and select "Start a new conversation". Then, type the username(s) of the reader(s) who you'd like to utilize in the Recipients box.

Elkhart | Former vet student (would have been c/o 2020) | I can help out with pretty much anything, but am most proficient in the nitty-gritty mechanics of writing: spelling, grammar, basic flow, sentence structure, etc. I'm probably best utilized as a final proofreader, though I'm also willing to provide pointers on how to trim the fat in your statement so that it doesn't exceed the VMCAS character limits (which is more difficult than it sounds!).

I would just like to thank everyone who is offering up their time to read personal statements! I am applying this cycle and I am extremely nervous not with applying but trying to find feedback with personal statements. I am nervous to ask people who are close to me to read my personal statements because not only am I horrible at writing essays, but I am scared of any judgment that could happen. Even though I might not get in, this website is truly GODSEND and every person here is supportive and helpful!

Those applying next cycle would be class of 2025 ☺
She knows; she’s a third year student and time just flies by so, so fast while you’re in vet school.

I had the same expression of disbelief with this last cycle being for the c/o 2024... by the time that that class enters vet school this year, I would have graduated with a DVM. Craziness.
time fies SO FAST and also not at all!!! Vet school is this weird paradox that most scientists cannot explain.

I’m thankful there are many out there willing to read my essays as I feel they may have been the reason I was rejected this past cycle. I especially look forward to getting in contact with @sheltermed and @finnickthedog because MSU is still my top choice!!

As a Class of 2025 applicant, I want to give a huge THANK YOU to proof readers for this cycle for taking your time to help us hopefuls! I look forward to reaching out to a few of you to assist with my essays, in the coming weeks! 🙂

I know it's still quite early in the cycle, but I just wanted to give this thread a little bump to remind any new people of this resource 🙂

WildZoo | c/o 2020 | I suddenly find myself with more free time than usual...I have a degree in writing and have helped many applicants with their personal statements in prior years. I also participated as an interviewer this past application cycle for my school, so have some perspective from the other side of the table on how these essays are received. Happy to help at any stage in the writing process, as well as through multiple revisions.

This is such a great resource, what an awesome little community here. I unfortunately don't think I am much help as writing is not my strong point - however I might be looking for something similar when it comes to writing my new personal statement for residency application/match. So I might reach out and see if anyone might be able to help one I start putting that together for this year!

EngrSC | Soon to be vet student (c/o 2024) | I can help with the explanation statement, both content and grammar.

sheltermed | c/o 2024 | Mainly interested in helping with content; putting a unique spin on your experiences to paint a vivid picture of you as a person. Likely best as a first stop for ideas and not necessarily a final proofread. However, able to help with grammar as well.

JJ Bittenbinder | Will be c/o 2024 | Happy to help with any part of the writing process (brainstorming, content, grammar, etc.) I was a writing tutor in undergrad and I would love to assist anyone who needs help!!

finnickthedog | c/o 2021 | Can help at any stage of the process, just let me know what you'd like me to focus on. My responses may be slow since I'm on clinics, but I expect I'll at least have time most weekends to look over an essay or two. If I get too busy, I'll take my name off.

WonderingStudent | c/o 2024 | My default is grammar focus but if you need anything else (content, brainstorming, etc) let me know!

elephants&cows | c/o 2024 | my strength is concise writing + using the active voice

that redhead | c/o 2015, small animal and exotics GP | I’ll read your statement and give you feedback.

ijustwanttobeavet| c/o 2024 | I’m willing to help with content and grammar. Also here to answer any questions about the process in general!

marilee | c/o 2024 | Telling compelling stories and focusing your narrative.

blueheeler | c/o 2024 | More than happy to help you at any stage of the writing process! Willing to help with the TMDSAS essays.

Lisagk | c/o 2024 | Happy to help with narrative flow, organization/structure, focusing on the main ideas and cutting out unnecessary fluff. Happy to help with and talk about any part of the application process too

Monty0526 | c/o 2024 | I am happy to help with any stage in the writing process but will be most helpful with narrative flow and helping you cut off unnecessary fluff.

Hi Sheltermed! I’m at the early stage of getting my essays together. It’s been a rough spring. I had emergency surgery and now lined up for another surgery in a couple weeks. I’m going to message you right now, so that I can stay in touch, and hopefully you can help me out. You are all amazing for helping us 2025 hopefuls!

I have nothing to do today and tomorrow so I wanted to solicit more essays by bumping this thread and also updating my entry 🙂 -- having a lot of fun working on these with you guys!

CURRENT READERS
Elkhart | Former vet student (would have been c/o 2020) | I can help out with pretty much anything, but am most proficient in the nitty-gritty mechanics of writing: spelling, grammar, basic flow, sentence structure, etc. I'm probably best utilized as a final proofreader, though I'm also willing to provide pointers on how to trim the fat in your statement so that it doesn't exceed the VMCAS character limits (which is more difficult than it sounds!).

EngrSC | Soon to be vet student (c/o 2024) | I can help with the explanation statement, both content and grammar.

finnickthedog | c/o 2021 | Can help at any stage of the process, just let me know what you'd like me to focus on.

Monty0526 | c/o 2024 | I am happy to help with any stage in the writing process but will be most helpful with narrative flow and helping you cut off unnecessary fluff.

Vet2022-20224| c/o 2023| I'd love to help bring out your uniqueness and what you can offer the profession. I can help with general flow and grammar too. Final proof reading is not my strength, but I can try my best to help at all stages of your writing. I helped quite a handful of people last year as well!

cbucks | c/o 2023 | I can help with any stage, but I'll probably be most helpful with figuring out the overall flow or thinking of ideas to talk about in your essays!

mcatz22 | c/o 2024 | I can help with content overall, flow, and making your personal story stand out against the others!

Removing myself from the list. Work has been ridiculously crazy with COVID-19 things and I just... flat-out don’t have the time or energy to do this right now. Maybe once/if things settle down, but I have doubts that that will happen before the end of the application period. Sorry.

finnickthedog | c/o 2021 | Can help at any stage of the process, just let me know what you'd like me to focus on.

Happy to help with and talk about any part of the application process too. I prefer to workshop papers in real time (via voice or video) - It'll make things a lot faster for you and me both. Back and forth sending of drafts takes me much longer than going things through with you in real time. (If you can't video/voice chat, I will still look at your writing, but please understand it will take longer to communicate back and forth)

WildZoo | c/o 2020 | I have a degree in writing and have helped many applicants with their personal statements in prior years. I also participated as an interviewer this past application cycle for my school, so have some perspective from the other side of the table on how these essays are received. Happy to help at any stage in the writing process, as well as through multiple revisions. Turnaround time is currently 4-5 weeks.

Monty0526 | c/o 2024 | I am happy to help with any stage in the writing process but will be most helpful with narrative flow and helping you cut off unnecessary fluff.

cbucks | c/o 2023 | I can help with any stage, but I'll probably be most helpful with figuring out the overall flow or thinking of ideas to talk about in your essays!

mcatz22 | c/o 2024 | I can help with content overall, flow, and making your personal story stand out against the others!

Scs589 - vet student - I can help with anything needed! I focus mainly on flow, and making sure that you are conveying what you want to! I thrive on helping people on applications and hearing their stories!

Removing myself from the list since I have less time now. If you've already sent me your statement I am still planning to get back to you and you are also free to send me updated drafts for fresh feedback. Just don't have the time to take new people.

It would be a big help if anyone can proofread the essays I already have written and help me brainstorm ideas for my personal statements that are just for UPenn. This is a great thread and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance! 🙂

Taking myself off the list for right now because I currently don’t have electricity at my house after Hurricane Isaias. I’m still going to read the essays I’ve already been sent but have limited access to power and internet.
