Who is taking the January PCAT and what are you guys doing to study for it? I orginally was working out of the Petersons workbook...

...and then I got the Kaplans in the mail yesterday. Wo-mamma! 725 pages in 24 days. Hmmmm....

I feel good about reading and verbal and I'm just hitting the Bio, Chem, and Math over and over and over again. Even though I have all of my gen chem and one semester of orgo down, I can't remember all of the equations we learned. 😕

I don't see any of y'all at my library, so I'm wondering what your methods might be... 🙂

I am trying to figure that out as well, taking it in January too :scared:
I have the Kaplan book on order, but I also hear that it isn't quite up to date ... (not sure what changed on the test being ive never taken it lol) I am focus'ing on an overview of all the different chem/orgo/bio topics (since its been 2 years since the classes hehe), I figure with such a wide variety of subjects, they can't go too deep into them. Although certainly let me know if I'm wrong

The Kaplans book does cover the changes to the PCAT. It offers a free web-based supplement to the new Calculus questions added. Also, instead of having antonyms in the verbal section, they now have sentence completion questions. The Kaplan book offers a web-page quizzing system for those as well. The new PCAT will be scored differently and it will have a sixth experimental writing section that is not added into your score. That makes me feel like a guinea pig used for lab experiments! 😱

For me, the Bio section of the Kaplan book was very helpful. (I thought the Bio section was the easiest). The Chem section was not bad. Don't worry about memorizing all the reactions from Orgo II. As far as I could remember, most, if not all the Orgo questions were very basic, and mainly from the information you should have learned in Orgo I. The Kaplan book does make the Chem section harder than it really is. It doesn't really go over much of the Orgo stuff you should know, so look over your old notes. I thought that there was more Orgo I than Gen Chem stuff. Lots of naming compounds..few stoichiometry stuff..alcohol-->aldehyde-->carboxylic acid questions (one of the very few reaction problems there was, as far as I could remember). I didn't even bother looking at the verbal or reading section of the Kaplan book..just looked at a few word roots, but that didn't really help, and I tested myself on a few reading passages to make sure my timing was on par. The Kaplan book I studied from didn't have any Calculus problems, and there were lots of those. I just looked over my old notes for Calculus. As long as you know Calc I and Pre-Calc stuff, you should be fine, however, I felt the Math section was tough, considering it was as though I didn't have enough time, so work fast! Your score is based on how well you do compared to everybody else! Good luck! 🙂
