I have heard that doing 2nd looks at ur top choices is a good idea. Does anybody know what a 2nd look is, how u go about scheduling it, and it what it entails? Has anyone done one as of yet? finally, if ur top choice is a place where u have already done an elective is a 2nd look overkill?

Dude, don't overdo it. If you've done an elective already, then they know who you are when you interview. Otherwise, you may come across as someone who is overly aggressive and obnoxious. You wouldn't want your program of choice to think this way? Would you?

Are you an Optho resident? How do you know whether it would be overkill? I would think that a program would note one's enthusiasm/interest for their program if one did a 2nd look.

I haven't seen anyone doing this. In my opinion, I think it's overkill. I can't really see how much this will help either.

Ophtho_MudPhud, if we're sincerely interested in a particular program, how do we go about letting them know that without coming off as annoying? I feel like programs will forget about us after we interview seeing that there are scores of people interviewing.

I think the saying, "Don't call us... we'll call you..." applies here.

However, the programs that are high on your rank list should be notified by you either by a letter to the program director or an e-mail. I e-mailed saying that the program is my top choice and that I hope that I'll have the opportunity to work with the faculty, residents, and staff in the future.

Some programs will contact you, and ask if you have any questions. The programs will do everything short of saying that you're their top choice.
