I made a 30P on the MCAT. PS-11 VS-11 BS-8.
My overall GPA is a 3.0 and my science is a 2.9 The first time I took organic one I received a D+ but I retook the course and got an A+ the second time. My school's policy is that they will not remove the D+ and that is weighing down my GPA. I'll be receiving a Major in Biology and a Minor in Spanish
I have a good bit of experience in the medical field. Including doing medical research at a top 10 medical school, working as an anesthesia tech for 6 months, shadowing numerous doctors and I'll be be doing medical research again this fall at a top 25 medical school.
What are my chances of getting in an MD school?
Also will the fact that I attended a more respected and somewhat harder University help when they view my GPA? Thanks
If you decide to go the SMP route and maintain a 3.5 average(actually I know for a variety of them you only need to maintain a B) you should have a great shot at acceptances to low tier and perhaps an OK chance at acceptances to mid tier schools. I do not believe you will have to improve your MCAT to a 32 if you show that you are more than capable of handling medical school courses by performing well in the SMP(especially since a 30 MCAT is around the average for matriculants).
As of right now you stand a chance of acceptance to D.O. schools.
An MCAT of 32 would help "compensate" for the uGPA. The SMP GPA of course helps in this regard, but as you know, the SMP GPA will not impact the uGPA. Schools would still report candidates as uGPA/MCAT, and a 3.0/30 just doesn't look very good. I wasn't suggesting improving the MCAT to prove adequate academic ability in medical school courses.
