I read the "37 reasons not to be a military dentist" thread and I thought it was very interesting, controversial, and biased.... what isn't biased though?

I always thought that taking the military route through dental school was a "no brainer" but now i'm not so sure😕

I still have a lot of questions and it seems that I'm fairly new to this idea (although i've been thinking about it for years). So here come the questions:

First question - what is HCSP? what does it mean? why do people use it? etc.

Second question - i've heard a lot about how being an army or navy dentist is not so great...the biggest reason being that of deployment out into the field. I am aware that there are other pros and cons but what do you think about being a dentist in the Air Force? how to the three compare?

Third question - it seems like most people are applying throught the Navy and Army... is this because there are more spots available than the Air Force?

Thanks for you responses!

I answered your questions in the response to your PM. Make sure you ask someone in the Navy about HCSP and see the "Ask a Navy Dentist" above.

Like I responded before, I love being a dentist in the AF. Military service isn't for everyone, but I like it.

FYI ..... It is the HSCP, not HCSP. This makes a difference if you try to do a search for related threads with info on the HSCP program!
