I'm thinking about possibly applying for armed forces scholarship. I have no problem doing military. I have several friends who were/are in the military.

But "4 year inactive ready reserve" is very concerning...

Let's say you received the scholarship, you worked for military for 4 years. ..
And then, you decided to open up a practice and you have been working and helping others happily.

But then you got a call that military is calling you back for some emergency/war/etccc.

Then you basically do not have any time or ways to maintain your practice and you will lose your practice.
(I heard about someone who was in this situation)

Did you guys think about that? and how do you prepare for that?
(i know chances that they will call u back is extremely low, but still)

The consensus about IRR is that it won't happen. Something along the lines of a dentist has never (or very few) have ever been called back. I wouldn't sweat it. It's in there because all military contracts are for 8 years and since HPSP is typically 3-4 years, they cap it off with IRR.

It never happens until it happens... 🙁

Even if it did happen, it would be because the country is in a time of crisis and needs your service. If you aren't willing to serve your country in its time of need, you obviously shouldn't join the military in the first place.
