Hello everyone!
I was wondering if I can get some feedback on those 5 hour energy drinks? Are they any good? Also, do any of you study at night for the MCAT? I find it difficult to study at night for some reason, so I was wondering what your motivation is to sit there at 11 pm just going over material??? Thank you 🙂

No. Those are meant for physical activity, not studying. Try coffee if you must. Trust me, I speak from experience.

Hi wishing4md

From my sole personal experience, I fell asleep around an hour after drinking a 5 hour energy. Even if they do succeed in keeping you awake, I feel like it might not be cost effective. Further, I'm not sure if they're limited to physical activity (their ads talk about eliminated that 2:30 feeling in the workplace), but for me personally, I'd just work on getting a good night's sleep if possible.

I did all my studying at night (8pm-2am), but I've turned relatively nocturnal (sleep 4am to 1pm...thankfully I took the 1pm mcat). I feel like there were less distractions late at night, and I wasnlt motivated to take study breaks outside of the house, as nothing is open that late...whereas during the daytime you can always go to the gym, or see people during normal hours.

Don't use the 5 hour stuff. Even if you stay up you will be out of it. Not quality awake time, at least from my experience.

Energy drinks are expensive. Coffee stains your teeth and requires work to make.

Buy a couple bottles of caffeine pills. I pop 200 mg every 3 hrs if I need to study at night.

I actually took one last night for my BR physics chapter 4 and got a 13 on my passages. I don't take energy drinks very often but I've been getting behind on readings so I wanted to catch up. I feel like crap now since I didn't go to sleep till 4am and woke up half an hour ago.

Yeah I'd stay away from doing energy shots lol - try doing caffeine pills. They definitely work, but MAKE SURE you take an appropriate dose. If you take too much, you will be gittery and have the biggest headache.

Took two before sitting for my MCAT. Did well.

I drank coffee to pick me up in the morning. I don't recommend doing anything that you won't be able to do on the day of the MCAT. I understand some people really have to study at night because they work during the day. However, the ideal way to study is to simulate the real MCAT day. If your MCAT starts at 8 AM then you need to be up at 6 AM studying for the MCAT so that your brain will be wide awake. I also studied the subjects in order of the real MCAT to make the transition more natural. Good luck!

5 hour works for me. Energy drinks do too, but not as well. I haven't tried caffeine pills though.
