Hi,
What kind (speciality) of physicians work from 8-10 hrs a week?
I was curious about it.
Thanks
Nev

Did you mean 8-10 hrs./day?

I'm pretty sure this guy means 8-10 per day. There is no job in the world that would conceivably pay you much for 8-10 hrs per week.

I've got a friend outside Chicago who works 48 hours per month and brings home about 180k in EM, but that's the lowest number of hours I've ever heard of...

Hi guys...sorry or the late reply and the mistyping....Yes..what I meant was that, are there any kind of physicians who work fo 8-10 or 8-12 hrs a day...or 40-50hrs a week?
Thanks

I would agree with psych, on my psych rotation which by the way was my best vacation of the year, the guy would see probably 40 pts in less then an hour and a half a day. he told me he makes >180,000

If you don't have a preconceived notion that you must bring home 3 or 4 hundred thousand dollars/year, you can really do most any specialty within medicine and still have a life. You may have to do locum tenins work, or just contract out your services for part-time work, but it can be done! For example, several of our physicians have arranged to work only a couple of days/week -- they cover days and shifts that are typically the most busy or the most difficult to cover. As has been hinted at previously in the thread, they still make a VERY decent living by my standards.

in anesthesia you can find a job at an outpatient center and work 8 hr days 4-5 days per week(M-F 7-3 or 9-5), and make >250K.

...assuming 4 shifts a month, that's almost $4000 take home per 12 hour shift which means he's billing beyond that....Is this guy just running from one thoracotomy after another or something!? 😱

To the OP, if you wanna work 8-10 hrs a day, I would think any field of medicine would do the trick. Even general surgeons I've worked with work about 8 hr days when they're not on call. Pathologists/ Psychiatrists have it slightly easier, like 6-8 hrs a day from what I've seen. Derm was like 8 hr days, FP/Outpatient internal same.

true for the time being, but not for long.

etomidate,
what is "not for long"? 5 yrs, 10 yrs, 20 yrs. Do you know? or are you logically deducing based on your intellect? As a 2nd yr resident i am saying this based on experience with private practice attendings. How about you?
