I'm not sure if there is already one, but I couldn't find any.

I'm about 1 month into studying but just did the EK PS 30 min exam. The microscopes and lenses caught me off guard =/

How is everyone else doing?

For those of you who are using the EK materials..

is anyone finding the BIO (30-minute exams) a little difficult?! lol hopefully i am not the only one. :scared:

Yea some of their questions require some minute detail in the corresponding chapter. I think the BS questions on the AAMC FLs are slightly easier

great! i should have mentioned that i was mostly referring to the 3rd lecture (microbiology 30-min test) I found the first passage to be killer lol.

but i guess i can't complain. if i get something remotely as difficult on the real one, at least i will have some idea on how to approach it.

EDIT: I am not trying to panic or anything but I just took the 30 min practice exams for biology, and I am unable to get above a 9 in each lecture test. 🙁 (i got mostly 9's on all of them except for L3 and L6 which were even lower)

lol i really hope the BS section on the AAMC's wont be as difficult. I usually get killed on 1 passage, and do pretty decent on the other ones. Is anyone else having the same problem, cruising through a test, and then all of a sudden BAM, hitting a hard passage!

so glad to see other 9/9ers!! 🙂

ive been reading the kaplan and EK books and audio osmosis, as well as the princeton review mcat workout. physics is improving (slowly, but surely), but orgo's starting to scare me! i took aamc cbt 5 today and i got 10-11-9. ive been neglecting my bio, but hopefully i can get that up!

good luck to everyone! 🙂

I hate to brag (who am I kidding hehehe 😀 ) but I'm feeling gooood about this thing!

My first Kaplan diagnostic about 2 weeks ago:

PS-VR-BS
13-7-10 (30)

Today, my second Kaplan diagnostic:

14-12-11 (37)

The exam wasn't any easier (at least, not 7 points easier!!)
I think my practice is paying off... I managed to finish verbal with a few minutes to spare, and I think I'm getting the hang of this.

It is realistic for me to score this well on the real thing, I'm sure of it. Most of the bio that stumped me is the stuff I haven't gotten to yet in my content review. Going to keep doing ExamKrackers for the verbal and bio!! :xf:

So yes, I am becoming an MCAT god :luck:

just started taking my aamc practice exams last week. how is everyone is doing on these?

aamc 3 - 11/9/11 ps/vr/bs
aamc 4 - 10/9/11

Exam in 2 weeks!!! :scared:

Entadus: Please share you powers, so that I may too destroy this MCAT. 😎

seriusdoc: I will be taking AAMC 4 soon, so I will let you know how it goes.

Good luck w/studying everyone. 🙂

be warned seriousdoc, I'm currently taking a TPR course and was told that 3 and 4 were alot easier than the actual MCATs, and to avoid taking them (only because we have other diagnostics to measure it by). but take that with a grain of salt of course

Good luck to everyone, The dates nearing, and im gettin the jitters :meanie:

Good luck to you all. I had to cancel my exam. I wasn't getting the scores i wanted, they were quite low, and I am going to re-approach my studying methods and tactics and try this beast in january.

one again, good luck and i wish you all 45s!

Wahhh! Im not also getting the scores i want either.

Honestly dont want to cancel. Ugh, not enough time in a day! I can feel the test creeping up fast!
Another FL tomorrow.

Btw, dont you mean 45T? 😀

Same here. I really don't want to postpone my exam. My FL scores aren't where I want them to be. I just took aamc 5 today and my scores aren't improving.

Wow, seriousdoc you're SO CLOSE! Just keep practicing verbal, have some faith!! :luck: I know my first verbal score was a 7, and yesterday I got an 11 on ExamKracker's.

We've got this :xf:

Man I am so ready to get this over with. Moving into my new apartment the next day =D; hopefully I won't be brain dead.

Also AAMC 8 verbal was so wacky.

so i just took aamc 6 and can't seem to break 31. my scores on aamc 3-6 has been consistent but not where i want it to be.

anyone have advice on how to improve verbal? there's always one or two passages that i totally bomb due to lack of understanding/comprehension.

ps-vr-bs
aamc 3 - 11/9/11 31
aamc 4 - 10/9/11 30
aamc 5 - 12/8/11 31
aamc 6 - 13/8/10 31

vman88: how does the verbal on aamc 8 compare to aamc 3-6?

I just thought that the questions were much more convoluted than usual (if thats possible). I felt that on a lot of the questions, you have a good argument for two answers. The curve was slightly more generous though, but it was still annoying.

I'm not an expert but I'll tell you what's been working for me, maybe it'll help.

I usually take about 3 minutes to read the passage carefully. It's important to think about the author and what his/her argument is while you read. When answering questions, I cross out the obviously wrong choices. and then go back to the passage to choose from the choices that are left.

It sounds time consuming but I usually finish with about 10 minutes left. When I was using the kaplan strategy my verbal score went down 6 points from my diagnostic. So just do what feels right for you!

Good luck!

Oh man, maybe I should investigate the "writing" section for the first time?? Heehee 👍

How's everyone dealing with the stress? Or are you not feeling any?? :scared:

I'm thinking I'll go for a run today.... 👍

Fight through the pain seriusdoc, analyze that **** up lol.

Btw nice PS score I want a 14 on PS. My PS seems to have gotten worse... I'm stuck on 10-11 when I used to be near 11-12 range. Any tips? Should I do content review? I think i gotta do some more practice on physics content, cos my Gchem seems pretty solid. I get my questions wrong on the physics part 😕

Didn't study much today. Anyone else feeling a little tired of this exam? 🙂

same here. instead of studying today, i decided to take a day off and catch a movie. felt guilty afterwards. hope i do well on aamc 8 tomorrow :xf:

Does anyone have any pre set examples for the writing sample that they want to share?

Here are some of mine that I have for different topics:

.Triangle Shirt Waist Fire (1911).
. .
.Crappy conditions in a New York City at a women’s blouse factory on the top floor of a building. Over a hundred workers, many of them immigrant were killed. They either died from the fire or from jumping from the top floor. Many of the women could not escape because the owners of the factory locked the doors to the stairwells and exits to prevent the workers from taking cigarette breaks. This invigorated the International Ladies Garment Workers’ Union. They fought for better and safer working conditions. The floor was also so high that the ladders from the fire department could not reach..

He led a violent uprising which led to his imprisonment. After his release, he went on to become to President of South Africa through the first fully representative democratic election and united the white and black South African population. He was famous for his beliefs on peaceful negotiations. .

.Joseph Stalin- Substitute for Hitler.
.He rose to become the leader of the Soviet Union. He integrated secret police and foreign espionage into different countries. Caused the Red Scare in America. Through self appointed awards and by naming cities after him, he elevated himself up to god status. .
.Public persecutions-..He devised a scheme that would brand someone as enemy of the people for the flimsiest pretext. This led to torture, deportation, and death. History books were rewritten to remove anyone that was killed that was thought to oppose Stalin. .
.Mass Deportation- ..Millions of people were deported for fear of resistance to Soviet rule. This was during and right after WWII. .
.Science ideology- ..Science was under strict guidelines made by Stalin. Many scientists were sent to labor camps where they died. .
. .
.Bombing of Coventry (did not actually happen but is still a good example)..
Brits crack Enigma and discover that Coventry is going to be bombed. Enigma was the secret cipher machine used by the Germans to relay information. Supposedly, it was cracked by British cryptanalysts. Churchill wrestles with the idea of whether to let Coventry be bombed or tell people to evacuate and reveal that they have cracked the code.

Long time lurker but first time poster. I know it's kind of late but I just started taking practice tests for this date today so I guess I'll keep up with my scores and progress on here.

AAMC 3

PS: 13
VR: 10
BS: 14
WS: N/A
Composite: 37

Seems decent, although I ran out of time on verbal and ended up guessing a bunch right at the end. Verbal seems to be a weakness, hopefully I can bring that up or at least consistently keep it at a 10.

How's everyone else? Anyone else starting practice tests this late?

hey everyone,

so i just finished aamc 8 today. i decided to try the EK approach on the verbal section (after scoring a 6 in VR on aamc 7) and was able to pull off a 10. i'm happy about the vr score but a little disappointed about ps, especially since i scored a 14 on aamc 7. how did everyone else do on aamc 7 compared to aamc 8?

here's the breakdown for all the aamc exams i've taken so far:

ps-vr-bs

aamc 3 - 31 11/9/11
aamc 4 - 30 10/9/11
aamc 5 - 31 12/8/11
aamc 6 - 31 13/8/10
aamc 7 - 31 14/6/11
aamc 8 - 31 10/10/11

lol@being stuck at 31.

Lol, dude I did AAMC 8 today as well!

I did better on AAMC 8 than 7, Although I'm planning to do AAMC 9 on saturday to make sure my score on 8 wasn't a fluke.

I thought AAMC 8 was about the same as 7, the verbal though I thought was more difficult on 8 than 7.

I apologize in advance if I offend someone by my post or something in my post. I know a 34 is nothing to complain about (I don't think I'm complaining but if someone sees it as that) but it's just that I know I can do better and want to rise to the challenge of maximizing my potential.

I did AAMC 4 today and dropped a point in each section but I actually felt better about it.

AAMC 4

PS: 12 (one question away from a 13)
VR: 9 (one question away from a 10)
BS: 13 (one question away from a 12)
WS: N/A
Composite: 34

PS, I'm sort of mad about and sort of okay with because stupid errors/misreads led to 3 of my 5 wrong answers and one of the 2 I got wrong was just plain wrong because they interchanged mass and weight which I've never seen before and have been told that they aren't the same. I guess on AAMC they are.

Even though I dropped a point, I actually felt better about verbal because my concentration and energy were much better than yesterday and I still ran out of time but I only had to guess on the last 2 or so questions rather than the whole passage like last time. Plus last time I got lucky and guessed most of the questions on the last passage correct so it wasn't a true 10. Also last time I bombed humanities passages (below 60%) and did very well in natural and social sciences. This time around I did better on humanities passages and a little worse on natural science passages. To be honest I would rather do decent on natural science passages and humanities passages rather than do very well in natural science and very bad in humanities because humanities are the more common type and consists of more questions. So I'd rather have two mediums compared to a single weakness.

BS, I am truly angry with myself about. For one, I used something I heard on a TV medical show to answer a question and went against my instinct for that question and it turns out (surprise, surprise) that the TV show wasn't accurate. Lesson: never go against my instincts. Another question I butchered a calculation on a HW question. The others were stupid, stupid mistakes that I shouldn't have made but did.

Two more questions and I would have been at a 36 and no stupid mistakes, maybe higher than 37. I haven't reviewed verbal yet, I might do that in the morning. Either way I'm pretty close to the 36 area which is right where my goal (35+) is.

This ended up being long but it helps me collect my thoughts about my mistakes and what I need to improve on.

How are you guys and what did you guys think of AAMC 4 when you took it?

Lol, yeah you shouldn't listen to TV.

I didn't do AAMC 4. I did TPR tests 1-6, and AAMC 6,7,8 planning to do 9 and 10 to finish off my studying for the MCAT and by then it'll be time to relax, and take it easy till test day.

AAMC average so far is: 35

AAMC 6: PS: 10 VR: 11 BS: 13 total: 34 2nd
AAMC 7: PS: 13 VR: 11 BS: 10 total: 34 1st
AAMC 8: PS:13 VR:12 BS: 12 Total: 37most recent 3rd.

I'm worried about my fluctuating PS and BS scores, on TPR those scores were fluctuating between 10-13 lol...
I've just been trying to identify subject weaknesses, and I tend to do better when I write things down in solving problems, even conceptual problems. So i'm going to try to write things out more and see if I can keep my PS and BS at 12-13 range. Hope my verbal stays at 11-12!!!!!!!
!!!!
!!!!
!!!!

Lol, I figured the question out based on the passage and right when I was about to click the correct answer my mind went "wait, remember on that one episode..." and I ended up changing it to the wrong answer, stupid I know.

I'm the opposite of you, I don't write anything down, I find it more useful to work out the problems conceptually in my head but I guess on that HW calculation question on BS, it ended up biting me in the butt.

Any tips for verbal? Even though I'm okay with the 10ish range I'm at I definitely want to get better at timing and see my score go up. So I guess what I'm asking is, what your verbal strategy?

Anyone else really tempted to look at the date threads? I already know what they'll say so I'm trying hard to resist and trying not to discourage myself because you always hear "that was BS, nothing like AAMC, AAMC were useless, much harder, yada yada yada" and I just want to concentrate on me and my scores so I might just go to sleep right now and study early tomorrow so I don't end up spending the night scaring myself and looking through those threads.

dude I looked at those threads, and I suddenly got nervous which wasn't helping. So i'm going to stay away from those threads.

As for verbal, my verbal ~ 3 months ago was really bad 6-7 baseline, didn't improve until about ~3 weeks ago? maybe a month ago.

I've been reading the economist, I minimized my amount of mistakes on inference questions by asking myself if based on the passage that conclusion is possible. I also threw out all the strategies, the AAMC practice tests font are the ideal size for me so my eyes don't hurt as much, unlike the TPR exams which fonts are smaller or it feels like they are to me.

I've been looking at my verbal breakdown and It seems i've managed to get all the retrieval questions +inference questions. Inference questions are a fair chunk of the questions on the VR section.

VR has been a source of my bane as well. I just hope i'm not just getting weird flukes in VR lol (although 3 times in a row seems to be highly unlikely) I still feel unconfident in verbal and I don't like doing it.

My least favorite section by far. I like BS the most, except for the orgo passages unless they're on ochem I material.

GOODLUCK studying!

Holy crap. I figured since I'm running out of time to do practice FLs, I would take a stab at AAMC 7 just to see where I am at and then decide if I should double up with AAMC 5 and 6. Turns out AAMC 7 ended up being a freaking 36. So I'm not feeling that bad anymore and I think I will probably skip AAMC 5 and 6 and just do their verbal for the practice.

AAMC 7:

PS: 14 (one question away from a 15)
VR: 11
BS: 11 (one question away from a 12)
WS: N/A
Composite: 36

PS: Can someone chime in for me how they felt about this. After taking this section and running out of time on the last question I thought I bombed this. I was so freaking scared and worried, this section seemed insanely hard to me. Then during my break before VR I calmed myself down because I knew that was the only way I was going to do good in verbal.

VR: I have yet to finish a verbal section but I'm still proud of this score. I ran out of time on the last 2 questions. I was in the zone though and hiyaman's advice helped when I realized that I hadn't been picking answers relevant to ONLY the passage. I did that this test and did much better. I know I'm still in the practice stage and haven't taken the real thing but I think I can offer inspiration to people who are very slow readers like me. I go through and highlight all nouns and dates and it really helps me keep track of the argument and authors opinion. Once you have those 2 things understood, the questions fly by. I think I spent about 4-5 mins just reading and understanding the passage for all the passages. The better understanding helps me get through all the questions in 2-3 mins. I've realized that the more focus and energy you put into this section the better your score will be. The only problem is that I put so much in that my head feels like exploding after it.

BS: This section was so freaking organic heavy and I was not prepared for that. I'm not weak in organic per se but it was the first thing I reviewed and I haven't reviewed it in a while so I've forgotten a lot. I think if I review it then this section will probably jump back up to 13-14.

I haven't reviewed the test yet so after I finish doing that probably tomorrow then I will post my thoughts on my mistakes, test skills, etc. I like that I'm at about the 13-14 range for the sciences but I'm afraid to commit to where I am at verbal. I'm so close to being in the 38 range it scares me, I just need to keep focus until test day.

What did the rest of you think of AAMC 7 verbal? Hard? Easy? Same as the others?

It seems like I'm tapering these days, not studying so much.

I'm going to take AAMC#3 today (probably last one before the exam on thursday), hoping for a 36+ on it :luck:

But yeah, I'm ready to be done with this thing 👍

Same here, I'm just gonna relax these last few days before Thursday.

Finished AAMC#3, had plenty of time. I didn't write any essays though.

13/13/10 (36) 🙂

took aamc 3 today...11/10/11, definitely not as high as some of yalls, but im happy with it! 🙂 hoping to take 1 more before thurs

Well, I'm a rewriter from July 8th this year. GREAT test day that was.....
hahaha I'm ******ed for rewriting a VR-12, BS-12, PS-9, but that stupid 9 won't get me in anywhere in Canada.

Is it stupid to say that I'd be happy with even 10's across the board and I would trade that 33 for it. This should be interesting.

The way I look at it, the September MCATs thus far have been brutal, they can't make every single one brutal can they?.... but they can.... AAMC why you no love me?

Let's just hope the test isn't impossible. About to write AAMC 10, didn't get to it last time. Let's see what happens.

Good luck all.

edit: just finished aamc 10, the verbal was wack... 36 right and only 11?
ps:12
vr:11
bs: 13
essays: got an S on July 8th, and blatantly/obviously LIED about every example I used. So I didn't bother writing essays for this one. Oh, I managed to fit Britney Spears public image into an essay and got an S... so that just goes to show you. Use advanced vocabulary and talk like your moral compass is turned on right and you're guaranteed a Q, provided your grammar isn't completely atrocious.

I haven't been doing as well as I wanted to on my practice exams, so it seems I'll have to wait off on taking it until January. However, does anybody know if a voided score shows up on the MCAT releases sent to schools? I actually want to take it, but I have a strong feeling that I'll have to void because I'm incredibly weak in physics, and I've forgotten a decent amount of orgo (it's been about 4 years since I've taken orgo). If a voided exam does show up on the release I'll just skip out on taking the exam, but if it doesn't, then I want to take it.

I quote from the MCAT Essentials 2010...

"The AAMC will not report your participation in the test to AMCAS or to non-AMCAS schools if you void your scores. We will, however, regard you as having attended the test and will therefore count the attempt toward one of the three permitted each year."

My 2 cents? Don't go into the test with the mindset thinking that you're going to void it. Give it your all. A buddy of mine wrote the June 17th exam this year, and went in getting an average of 8 in PS, with double digits in everything else. He was going to void most likely. He was going to write it as a practice test... but he wrote it, and although the PS on that test seemed ridiculous, there was a forgiving curve. In the end he scored a 10 in physics an 11 in verbal and a 10 in bio. So... moral of the story? Write the exam since you've paid for it. Give it your 100%, and no matter how terrible you think it went, if you were scoring 8's and 9's in your physics practice, seldom will it drop below that on the actual thing. To those people that void the exam because they have a bad "feeling", they're potentially throwing away a 30+ exam, based on a hunch. You don't know until you know. Might as well get the feedback, and then count your losses if it doesn't go well and gear up for the January test.

Just wrote my last FL...managed to score a 33 on aamc 10. Man the curve is HARSH! 48/52 on PS is a freakin 12! 👎

ps-vr-bs
12/8/13

Hope i can break 10 in verbal on thursday:xf:.

I'm pretty much done with studying...gonna spend tomorrow reviewing aamc 10. Good luck to everyone writing on thursday!

I just finished AAMC 10 as well.

Also scored a 33, but disappointed with my PS score..

PS: 11 --> Dammit! Made 2 careless mistakes!
VR: 10--> tough verbal I thought
BS: 12

The curve was definitely harsher than any of the other AAMC exams. I also thought the verbal was pretty tough.

Goodluck to everyone!
3 more days!

PS what's everyone gonna do the day before?

Goodluck to everyone!
3 more days!

PS what's everyone gonna do the day before?

I missed all of the questions for passage 7 on verbal....

I'm probably just gonna watch a few movies and relax the entire day.

I just finished AAMC 10 as well.

Also scored a 33, but disappointed with my PS score..

PS: 11 --> Dammit! Made 2 careless mistakes!
VR: 10--> tough verbal I thought

Good job on AAMC 10. The passage about the magnetic fields at the end was kinda tricky.

As for the last few days, I want to catch up on some shows I have been meaning to watch (Big Bang theory, How I met your Mother, and some Friends) =)
