Let's say that if you get accepted you still apply for the next cycle. So basically you'd be taking the first yr of med school during your "year off". Is this allowed/ has anyone ever tried this?

My friend and I had this discussion today. Basically although he has been accepted he was kind of lamenting the fact that he applied late. Also he said his senior grades were good as well as doing more stuff. For these reasons he thought that applying again and very early would allow him to get into a better school. At the same time if he didn't get into a better school he would already be in a med school finishing year 1.

Schools don't let you transfer except under pretty extraordinary circumstances, as far as I know.

so, if possible, he would be interviewing while doing first year med? also his credits wouldn't transfer so he would be starting over med school (After paying tuition and all that)

Perhaps you should inform your friend that the education at all U.S. med schools is pretty similar, so getting into a "better" med school isn't really possible. Then again, I'd like to see his sense of entitlement get rewarded with extra trips through the application process and his M1 year, so encourage this plan of his as much as you can.

Well if (s)he's that confident of his/her prospects for the next application cycle, then he/she can decline the acceptance and reapply. This way you save money and the torture of repeating M1.

I know there'll waitlisted applicants eager to take the seat he/she declines..👍👍

I mean I doubt anyone would go through with this. I asked this question more to see how feasible it is...I mean can you imagine writing "attending med school" for the box that says what are you doing during your time after college etc..

I would definitely not go through this whole process again if I didn't have to. Just take the acceptance.

I don't think that's feasible. A more likely situation is declining his acceptance this year, and then reapplying next cycle. JMO, but that would also be a terrible idea. There's no guarantee of getting in.

Some people have declined acceptances to try again and get into a "better" school. The general consensus is that this is very risky and probably not worth the extra year of your life and the money of a second application.
