Don't get me wrong; I make plenty of mistakes but looking at all these posts amazes me. We are applying to dental school. We are aspiring for a doctorate (doctor is from the latin word for 'teacher' by the way). Our spelling and grammar ought to be nearly perfect. On that note:
"A lot" is TWO words. Always.
An easy way to remember this is to consider, would you ever write "alittle" ? Then don't write alot.
I just performed a search in this forum for the correct and the incorrect form.
The results are nothing short of embarrassing.
109000 - a lot (correct!)
25700 alot (incorrect!)
This means that of the 134700 mentions of this term only 81% were correct.
I know it's the internet, but we should be exemplars of basic skills.
Take care with your personal statements. Best of luck.
