A prescription has been written for Prevacid 30 mg # 10, sig I cap qd, 2 refills, however, the patient's insurance benefit has a 34-day supply limit. If the original prescription is filled for 34 capsules, how many refills of 34 would be available?

A. 6 refills of 34
B. 8 refills of 34
C. 5 refills of 34
D. 7 refills of 34
The answer is D, but I don't know why. Can anyone explain that to me? thanks!

Do you mean Prevacid 30mg #100 sig 1 cap qd, 2 refills?

You have 300 total capsules.
Minus original fill of 34 = 266 capsules remaining.
Divide by 34 = 7.82.
The patient will have Answer D--- 7 full refills of 34 remaining (and also a partial fill of 28 capsules remaining)

I would say none if the above... Chances are they will get 2 refills and then have to do mail-order...

yeah, it should be #100, not #10. You are right. thanks!
