So I am getting re-evaluated at a Pharmacy School in Ohio. I took the PCAT again and did great on all my sections minus the reading and verbal. So that brought me under a 50th %tile. I met with the head of admission's committee and he said this meeting with him really struck a "lightning bolt" with their re-evaluations. They are doing this because a lot of people withdrew their seat so they had open seats available. He was impressed with my grades, my extra curricular, work experience and grades. He was concerned if my class pre-reqs weren't completed, so I sent him my updated transcripts, a new Letter of Rec - from my pharmacist and my updated PCAT score (the one I mentioned above). He said he'll meet with the committee and let me know via email or call in a few days. It has been 2 days since and I am worried. What are your guys' input? Tomorrow is their Welcome Session and I feel like I need to go to that. I also completed my fasfa, and immunizations.

Post your inputs?

Honestly none of us can really say for sure since we don't go to the school so we really wouldn't know any more than you what they are thinking...why don't you post in the school-specific discussion forum and see if anyone has heard anything? You can find that forum here.

It's interesting you mentioned this since so many people are concerned with saturation and an over-production of graduates but I think this is an indication of what I said in an earlier post coming true...too many schools will open and can't fill their seats and will eventually have to close, putting pharmacy back at a sustainable level, job to graduate wise. I think job availability and demand, as many things in the economy are, is cyclical and will go through highs and lows.

My opinion is that this school isn't one of the Big 4 in Ohio (ie: OSU, UC, ONU, or UT) because those schools wouldn't have to have a re-application committee and I would shy away. If its NEOUCOP why don't you ask them how there new grads did the job hunt this year, because I haven't seen one hired in Cleveland area yet (hospital). If its Findlay expect +$200K in loans. I wouldn't do either. Try another year and retake PCAT.

Yeah this really helps. Neoucop is the school that cannot fill their seats and I got into findlays program where I have to take one extra year because of prereqs.

What is your guys best suggestion? I won't worry about loans I just need to get in. Giant eagle pharmacy is really my long term goal right now. They want me to get in so I can intern with them and when I graduate they'll have a opening for me.

IF this is true, then you should definitely be worried.... that's ridiculous!

And how do you know Giant Eagle will have an opening for you after you graduate? Do you have a signed contract?

Not sure if this helps you, but I am aware of at least 8 NEOUCOP (NEOMED) graduates hired at various hospitals and 7 or 8 residency placements (a little over 50% of the people that went through the Match process). The total class size was right over 60. As far as I know, P1 classes do not begin until August 29th. As a side note, full accreditation has been granted.

Re: Giant Eagle. As far as I know, they are pretty saturated in Ohio and Pennsylvania due to all the pharmacy graduates/ students.

I do not know enough about the other schools to comment about the opportunities there. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Ohio has 7 colleges of pharmacy now. Ridiculous amount for the small area that we live in. Good luck finding a job if you don't go to ONU, OSU or UC.

Yeah NEOMED's program is fairly new and they just have been accredited and have been successful in matching / job hires. I talked to them earlier today!

They said that they received 40+ naplex scores and so far it is a 100% passing rate

Here is some good luck to everyone else! Work hard and it will pay off! Focus on admission and doing well in classes / the pcat (if needed)

Also keep in touch with the schools you apply to. They want you to be loyal to the school! It really helped me.

I couldn't believe I gotten in! I was shaking after the telephone call.
