:scared: hi ,

i have a GPA of 2.55 and i have virtually seen no one with that kind of gpa in sdn!well i do have a part 1 score of 91.is there any chance that anyone with such a gpa has got into a dental school?i'm really concerned about this and am not sure whats going to happen!anyone with any relevant information please do reply.

when you apply for a dental schoo or any speciality programme your GBA does matter, but you can improve your resume by having higher scores, generally they take you as a whole,so your work experience, your extra curricular activities can help you out,as far as i know.

Actually, it doesn't..... at least at some schools. I mentioned that in the UOP results thread. I'm sure a few other schools think like UOP, 'cause it does makes sense.

pearlindia....dont worry about your gpa....there is nothing much u can do about it now to change it..... so try and improve other aspects of your appli like ur scores (u already have a great score)/resume/work experience/etc.

and most schools in the US know how schools in india are. they dont get totally amazed by merely looking at our gpa. the whole package counts. gpa varies with ur credit hours and syllabus too. so, just chill.......

thanxs a lot toothlord, megs & toothmail.its really very nice to hear all that u have told me.yeah so i'll go ahead & try to make all the other things impressive.
thanxs a bunch again!

Hi, Pearlindia
My gpa is low also. So I got kind of scared about this after reading this forum. I'm going to take Part I in July, and hope to get high score. Just hope that my work experiance of 10 years and (maybe) higher part I score will improve the situation. But at the same time I'm thinking about detal higienist school. 🙁

sj35....welcome to SDN. 🙂

10 yrs is an awesome amount of work experience! is this work exp. in the US? have u done an MDS or any specialization? if u have, then ur gpa will not matter much at all i guess! all the best for ur prep for part 1.

Thanks, toothmail
My work experience is from my country, in Europe. And I haven't done any specialization. 🙁 But still I hope that will count some. Anyways I think that a high gpa at school doesn't necessary make you a good specialist. But that's my opinion, and addmision commision may not think like that😉

hi sj35,
hey dont think about dental hygienist school at all.i mean i dont think that if all other criteria are good enough they will scrutinize ur gpa that much & as Meggs said at least in some schools.
so my advice is try to get the best score in ur part 1 .then apply to schools & then see what happens .
all the Best for ur prepn.

Hi, Pearlindia
Thanks for your support. I'm going to try to apply for dental school and see what happens. If i don't get accepted, then I'll probably go to dental hygienist school. What schools are you going to try?

hi sj35,
haven't decided yet as i live in the bay area i definitely will apply here & others i havent decided as i want to finish my part 2 & then decide.
