Okay so I am taking a class called music as a world phenomenon and due to a mix up on due dates (the professor handed out a paper saying the due date was a thursday and the syllabus said tuesday) I lost 10 percent of my grade. I am wondering how a W in a fine arts class will look on my transcript when applying to pharmacy school. I do not plan on making withdrawal a trend in any way and I am very well on track with my classes without the music class (I am actually a little overloaded with the class anyways). Basically what I'm wondering is should I work hard in a useless class to get most likely a B- at best so as to not get a W on my transcript or is it okay to drop it because of it being a music class?

Thank you so much,
Erik

Id take the W if I was you. Why don't you mention the due date mishap to your professor and maybe avoid the 10 percent loss?

Take the W. I'm surprised your professor won't make any exceptions though due to the error he made on the syllabus?

If that truly was a mistake on the professor's part, you'd be remiss in your academic due diligence if you didn't at least go to office hours and explain the mistake. Often, professors try to avoid extra work (Who doesn't?) and will not necessarily suggest that they'll change peoples' grades, adjust something, or whatever... but if you're motivated and take the initiative to go in, they'll change it for you. I know it's happened to me before and I know I am not the only one.

If the professor simply will not budge and you don't wish to elevate the issue to academic affairs/academic senate, I'd take a W over a B- in a fine arts class, especially if you don't have any other Ws or blemishes on your record. A single W is a quick over-look for any AdCom.
