Hey folks me again,

Just wanted to tell you folks that are terrified of the PCAT to have faith in yourself and continue to believe. I recently took my exam (today @ 8) and received an 81 composite overall with 95s in Chem and Biology. This is coming from a guy who lost his hunger drive (lost 10 ibs), became an insomniac, suffered dehydration etc all because of this exam. THis is coming from a guy who has to fight for a B in class. When i took the exam the first time i scored a 30% composite. I know what you are feeling i have all of you in my thoughts and prayers. Please continue to stay strong and continue to push yourselves because the pay out is so much greater than what you pay in. Don't let anyone tell you that you cant do something; you are your only hindrance

- Mike.

Enjoy your day guys and do something you enjoy

thank you brother! as someone who is trying to find the time to study for this exam I appreciate you sharing your experience.

Any time man, any time. Its good to have an encouraging word coming from a source other than yourself; i know that i need quite a few of them especially during a time like this. I see alot of folks posting about how theyv'e gotten 90+ percentiles and have blown every section out of the water which - don't get me wrong - is a wonderful thing but I'm not one of those folks. I am very thankful for the 81 i received because this stuff doesn't come easy for me and i know that there are others that are in the same boat. Keep faith my man and you will succeed. Ill keep you in the thoughts man and will continue to do so.....until you take your exam (whenever that is)

Blessings to you
- Mike

The suffering part sounds like it's going to happen to me soon. Hopefully I get as good as a score like you did! I am also one who has to work very hard for a B in class. And congratulations! Awesome improvement 😀

No problem HXTRAN. It is possible brother! Ill keep you in the thoughts along with GERMANSHEPARD! Best of luck to you. Ive got faith in you and im pretty sure shepard (gentleman that whas the first response to the post) does too so that makes two of us; if you believe in yourself that'll make three! So stay solid and keep your head up! Know that it is possible. As far as my score layout goes:

Verbal Ability: 406SS/58PR
Biology: 440SS/95PR
Reading Comprehension 395SS/41PR
Quantitative Ability: 399SS/45PR
Chemistry: 444SS/95PR
Composte: 417SS/81PR

As you guys can see, thanks to the good Lord, i did very well on the sciences but the quantitative ability, reading comp, and verbal were my tougher areas. I personally am just fine with that. I've never been one to read due to dyslexia and LD. This stuff doesn't just jump of the page at me like it does for other folks. I believe that the reason that i did so well in the sciences is because of its hands on nature and immediate practicality- something i love about sciences.

Im pretty sure that you guys are taking your exams no later than September/October. Ill be praying that i here good news from you too around that time so feel free to share if you'd like!

I'm taking my exam in less than 2 hours! Thanks for the words of wisdom to help me relax. 🙂

Thank you so much for this post! I'm taking it in an hour and I am feeling pretty confident. I have been telling myself I'm going to do well for the past two months! Ah it's time to finish this thing and celebrate!

Jessica and Futurepharm,

Good luck guys! Do us proud! Please post how it went if you'd like! We may not be in the same geographic location to celebrate but id love to celebrate with you in spirit so please inform us of how it went!

Hi, I'll take a PCAT less than 2 hrs today, I have a question for you.
Did the time scale appear in each section as : Verbal, Biology, Chem... and so on or it appears as the total time.
Thank you so much

Hey Euphoria
Sorry for the late response but the time scale does appear in each section of the exam in the top right hand corner. Good luck on your exam, do your best, and have peace in your heart. As we told the other folks, let us know how it goes if you'd like. We'd love to celebrate with you.

Hey! So the pcat actually didn't go well for me. I already had my fair share of mental breakdowns and tears for the day haha . But no I'll be taking it again in September and I'll be getting the dr Collins to study from. I don't have the best GPa in the world mainly because of just constantly struggling with test anxiety throughout undergrad. I'm trying to get into the university of Iowa or midwestern in downers grove il. I work at a walmart pharmacy for the past year. I just got certified . Idk I have had people tell me it's impossible and they just laughed and told me to not even apply. I'm trying to stay positive but it's mentally exhausting you know. :-/
All I have wanted since I was like 13 was to be a pharmacist I started researching programs in high school and just fell in love with the profession. Working in a pharmacy just made me 100x more certain this is what I want to do. I just feel stuck.. :-/

Hey man thanks for that. I really am having constant diarrhea thinking about this exam. I should've taken it in July but didn't feel I was ready so I pushed it to September. But still between working full time and then trying to study as much as I can at night I'm just anxious cuz Im like you...a guy that has to struggle for a B.

Anyway can I ask what you did? What materials did you use? I'm using the self study for Dr. Collins from last year but am wondering if I should do the upcoming in-person with Dr. Collins as well. Basically I'm going by the advice given in the 99% percentile thread. Right now I'm just trying to get a good 3-4 hours in a day. I plan on taking my first practice exam this weekend so we'll see. But if you can shed some light on what you did that would be awesome....I'd give almost anything for an 81

Futurepharm: Please do not be discouraged. I saw your post late last night on my phone and I placed you in the prayers not only last night this morning. Please know that i was in your situation not long ago. I received a 30 percent composite score on my first pcat! A 30 percent composite! After seeing that score i crawled into bed nude and assumed the position that i came into the world in; the fetal position. It is more than possible to turn things around. Ive heard that Dr. Collins is a wonderful study tool so hit it hard and use the thought of the rest of these folks on this thread being behind you as fuel for this tough time. Excuse my language but this sucker isnt over yet; youve still got a couple aces in the hole that include time, effort, and encouragement. I dont mean to be a bible thumb but the book tells us to view tough times as an opportunity because it strengthens us from within and endurance has a chance to grow. Ill keep you in the prayers as i have been man. You can do this.....

NYC76: Welcome to the post. First off best of luck on your exam.

I personally used the kaplan pcat course. I choose to do the in class session because again i suffer from dyslexia and LD. Reading is very tough for me and ive found that i learn better when people tell me things and teach me things in a hands on manner. This garbage (i use that term with a grain of salt to address the tested subjects) doesnt come easy to me. I also chose the course because it was structured. Im the kind of guy who has to be told what to do when to do it; i dont succeed in "be your own boss" i.e. study when you choose environments so the inclass session was the best for me.

As far as studying, u put in around 3 to 4 hours a day with a day off. PLEASE be sure to take a day off. Id hate to see someone in the same fight that i am get burned out. Good luck on your exam. Let us know how it goes if youd like! Enjoy your day brother. Ill add you to the prayer card i have

Thank you thank you thank you! You have no idea how much it made my day to see such encouraging words! I'm just a girl with some crazy ambitions and having people being supportive is such a nice feeling! Thank you so much!🙂

Futurepharm! My greatest apologies! I thought you were a male hence the "ill keep you in my prayers man/bro! So sorry about that! And anytime. I truly believe that life is based on the premise of helping people. If you at one point in your life had trouble with something and were able to overcome that something then the next best thing to do is help the next guy/gal down the line thats struggling with that same something. Again anytime, enjoy your day

Thanks man I really appreciate the insight and the prayer card of course! I'm definitely going to need it. Even though I forked out for the self study materials last year I might do the in class with Dr. Collins next month. I'm kinda like you in that its hard to set my own schedule and stay disciplined. Did you find in the Kaplan course that they actually taught you test strategies and relevant material that made a difference when you took the actual PCAT? Or was it mostly just take practice test after practice test to get a sense of the pace?

Thanks again man! I'll try to do the one day off thing but every time I don't spend a free hour looking at some material I feel like I'm wasting time. Speaking of which I'm in the library now so I need to get cracking lol

I scored a 84 composite! I was so excited. 🙂 My goal was 80+, but I thought I was going to realistically score in the 70's.

Thank you thank you thank you! You have no idea how much it made my day to see such encouraging words! I'm just a girl with some crazy ambitions and having people being supportive is such a nice feeling! Thank you so much!🙂

You can do it! You have passion, which most people lack. 🙂

Great job jess! Thats what im talkin about girl!!! Care to share your subscore breakdown? If not i totally understand! But again wonderful job!

Hi BiologyBoy102
I just took my pcat couple days ago, and got terrible score 27%. After getting the result, I'm just losing a lot of hope. I signed up for sept test already, but I'm so scared because i did study for 1,5 months seriously, and turned out I did very bad on the real test. How did you study to improve your score a lot? would you mind sharing it with me? Did you do practice test every day? I know stuff on the test, but I'm very slow in solving problems and reading...

i didnt get 99 but few tips i can give.. check a lot of people's experiences in pcat section of SDN. they have valuable information. if u think u totally have no clue where to start studying, dr collins will not be a good guidance. dr collins is more for people already on reciew level. you need to start from book like kaplan or princeton reviews which has materials in depth information. hope this helps. oh make sure to review official pcat practice test roo

Littlecat! The PCAT is a tough test so dont feel discouraged. Allow the sole thought of you retaking the exam in September to offset how you feel about the exam you just took; you have a second chance, maybe even a third or a fourth if need be. Your last exam is now in the past so dont look back, look ahead! I used the kaplan book. I hadnt done any of the undergrad prereq work in a while so i practically had to start from day one. Im not to sure that i can share with you what ive studied because we arent able to talk about whats on the exam but i will tell you to study the large concepts that you learned in undergrad. Email your undergrad teachers and ask them for a list of the major "takeaway topics" from the course and review those. Im not to sure about Dr. Collins (which ive heard is great) but the kaplan book outlines the big topics covered; it is however very indepth which is why i would also ask teachers for takeaway topics so that you can narrow the scope. I sat down for 3 to 4 hours a day reviewing things. Also remember that with things like gen chem there is alot of application through math so practice the problem you review as opposed to just reading over them and saying "i got this."

Best of luck,
Ill keep you in the thoughts.

P.S. sorry for the long run on sentences and mis-spellings - im typing this out on my smart phone that isnt too smart

I agree that Dr Collins is more for people who have a good understanding of their material, but need some review. That's how I was; I'm a biochemistry major so I've taken all the classes that I needed for the chem, quant, and bio sections. The topics were still somewhat fresh in my mind, so I decided to go with Dr Collins. I did also have a Kaplan book to get a little more detail over the bio.

I think Khan Academy (free) and Chad's Videos (paid) would help greatly if you're struggling with some topics. Both are excellent at explaining things to an understandable format. I know Chad in-person since I'm at ASU, and he is just awesome at explaining chemistry. I had Chad's Videos, but I ended up not really using them since I didn't have too much time to watch his videos in my free time.

Littlecat87 I received the exact same score as you did! I took the test July 18th and when I saw the score I was in shock.. I didn't think it was possible to score that low. I went through Dr. Collins since May and I was thinking I was going to get a 90! I didn't even think 27 was possible. For my situation, I was also taking two classes over the summer and doing research every single day, plus trying to study for the PCAT which wasn't a good idea. I was going to sign up for the september pcat as well but I think I need more time so I signed up for the October one... (still kind of worried since its late)... but I chose October because I enrolled in a Kaplan On-Site Class which is till the end of septemeber.. so far after going through the videos they provided (I didn't start the class yet)... they seem extremely helpful... they basically babystep you through everything... and like you... I have trouble doing problems and reading as well... especially chemistry and math! I highly recommend taking the course because like everyone else said Dr. Collins is for those who already have the FOUNDATION of everything. I thought I had the foundation but I didn't... Kaplan gives you that foundation... the only bad part is... its $1300 course =( But I am hoping it is worth the money... I will keep you in my prayers since you are in the same boat as me... I hope this gives some insight and hope... Don't give up! I was actually reconsidering doing some other career like PA or something because I was so devastated. But I realized that I had a 392 composite... and a 400 is a 50%tile... and a 430 is like a 90%tile... Basically if I answered like 20-30 more questions right.. I would be fine and I know that score is attainable... I know I can do it... and so can you!... Sorry for writing so much but I just want to let you and others to not get discouraged since I am also in your shoes.

Hi, thanks a lot. I feel more confident after reading your msg. APPRECIATED THAT 🙂

Hey guys,

Havent been on in a while do to work. I work at seaworld in the zoo dept and the summer time is usually the birthing time of most marine mammals so lots and lots of babies to take care of. Hows everyone on the the post doing PCAT wise!? Im interested in hearing some wonderful news. If the news isnt so wonderful just remember that bad news can be turned into good news! Hope youre all doing well and good luck on the pharm school admission process. What blows my mind is that i may be meeting some of you next year in pharmacy school. With that being said, if we'll have to band together to endure the rigors of pharm school, why not start early and do it now! Supporting you guys all the way! Enjoy your day

Sea world in Orlando?

Seaworld San Antonio Sir! The youngest but best of the three parks 😛

Well hey folks if your ever in SA and make it out to seaworld look me up. Tall african american guy who usually hangs out around the dolphin feeding and sealion pools. I love taking people into our back areas to see the animals up close and personal so feel free to introduce. Ive got "chemistry" or "pre pharmacy" on my name tag so use it as a marker lol.

Ive noticed that you boys are in pharm school. Quick question regarding the material itself. Is pharm school pretty tough/ challenging/ etc? What are your personal opionions?

I haven't actually started pharmacy school; my orientation is all next week, and class begins on the 19th. I'm very excited!

Hi,
thanks for your comment, I did not know that "392 composite... and a 400 is a 50%tile... and a 430 is like a 90%tile..." that totally gives me a lot of energy to study for next test. I hope you all the best, and I'm sure we can do it. :luck:

Congrats to you! That is so awesome and so amazing - persistence pays off! You should be very proud of yourself! 🙂

Don't be discouraged! My stats aren't all that great, but I keep a supportive network around me that believes in me and it helps to conquer all those fear demons! "Those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." Believe in yourself, you can do it!! I got a 64 first time on my PCAT and took Collins course and got a 91. I took a month and a half off work and studied for 8-14 hours a day, 4-5 days a week. Sounds crazy, but it worked. The first time I went thru it studying when I got a 64 I cried all the time, kept having breakdowns, was so scared to fail that my mind blanked on the test. The second time, I prayed a lot more and had faith. If pharmacy is in your heart, you'll get there. =)

hi, thanks for your tips. Have a wonderful day! :luck:
Hey littlecat87,

I have to disagree with the others - for me personally, I had taken Gen Chem 1 and 2, Orgo 1, and Bio 1 and 2, and calc, but no biochem, no Orgo 2, etc., YEARS ago. That stuff was completely foreign to me by the time I decided to take the PCAT. I went to the course that he actually TEACHES and it was it was awesome. I loved it because it only teaches you exactly what you need to know, no more no less. Did I have to do a lot of self study to understand all the concepts? Yes. Did it take a while for it to all make sense? Yes. But it did, and it helped, and it was awesome for me. The "foundation" I had was of little or no use to me because I hadn't seen it in so long...but the class definitely helped. Make sure to do ALL the practice tests! You'll be super ready then.

So glad to see a thread where others besides myself aren't relying on our own strengths, but standing on our faith. Thank u BiologyBoy102 for ur great words of encouragement. I am preparing to take the Pcat again...I did horrible in july but ordered Dr.Collins right away. I won't b testing until November bcz I needed more time to study in between work and family. Again, thanks and I wish u the best.

I agree. I had the "foundation" over 6 years ago so its all foreign to me. Those of us who have been out of school for a while kind of have to relearn the info all over unless u actually use the info frequently.
