Hey guys:

I'm working on my aacomas primary application. I know I know, behind as usual. Anyways, I saw a similar thread for the AMCAS people and was wondering if we could start a thread where people could commiserate with each other, talk about where they're headed, whose interviewing where, get the down low on everything. Like a buddy support thread for the AACOMAS who are losing their minds.

Me: I'm a recently graduate of U of Chicago, go Maroon whut whut. Looking to apply to maybe 6 to 7 schools. Here are my dream schools, in order of favorites:

1. NYCOM
2. Western
3. Kirksville
4. ANOVA
5. Touro
6. PCOM
7. I guess I can save some love for ChicagoCOM

What's your list and how's the application coming?
 
Hey there! My application was submitted on the 17th, but AACOMAS still hasn't verified and activated my account (waiting on money order I think). I'm going to be a senior at USF.

top choices:

1. KCOM, CCOM [it's a tie]
2. AZCOM
3. MSUCOM
4. UNECOM
5. no preference from here down

Now comes the long wait for secondaries.
 
I just submitted my app today...been one of the best and worst days of my life...my best friend just went to jail for DUI after driving me home. 🙁

Good new is...i submitted my apps!...
1. AZCOM (I think)
2.??? FL maybe???
I applied to AZCOM, LECOM-FL, TUCOM-LV, UNECOM, KCOM, PCOM, DMU, COMP, NOVA...i am doing me best to get out of the midwest, although I couldn't exclude all of them. I am totally up in the air, hopefully the decision will be easier if I get to see some of the schools...and if I get accepted at only 1, the decision will be really easy. :laugh:
 
Hi, I'm getting the sense from reading this thread that I'm late since I haven't yet applied! I plan to submit my application for the following schools next week... sheesh, I need to order my transcripts!!!! Worried--am I late?

1. Kirksville
2. DMU
3. CCOM
4. Nova
5. Pikesville

No don't worry, you're not late. It's still June. Even July is considered early in the process. People are applying all the way through the fall months (to their disadvantage). Anyhow, get those transcripts mailed asap, because it takes AACOMAS a few weeks to process them. Maybe I'll see you at Kirksville! 🙂
 
kaikai128 - I know how you feel. The noticed the state of Florida and Arizona was high on your list. haha. what state you in? I'm down with NOVA, I like the location, just talked to the admissions people about application, apparently there are more out of state applicants than instate but I guess thats for all schools? sorry to hear about the friend. Have you bailed your friend? Hope things go well

JohnDo maybe ill see ya at Kirksville too. haha thats if i even get interviewed.

MsEvolution good luck to ya too.. don't worry about the application, like JohnDO said, applying in June or turning in the application that early is usually unusual (weird how I used the two words). Just send in the transcripts right now, regardless if you haven't finished the application cuz its always going to take a while for them to receive it and process it.

Is anyone excited? The proccess is slowly chugging along... I can't wait to start the secondary questions.

I just finished/submitted the aacomas app. I am applying to 7 osteopathic schools: PCOM, CCOM, NYCOM, KCUMB, COMP, UNE, NJCOM

Any Idaho residents out there applying this cycle?

She is out of Jail. I am in Indiana right now...(not the best state to be from when applying DO. I am not considered a part of any of the 'regions' that the schools are looking for.) FL and AZ are warm and I am just at a point in my life where I am unattached, and getting away from the midwest is going to be easy...at a later point in life it may not be so easy...I am going to seize the opportunity if I can!!! Also, I start shivering @ about 60 degrees...so the thought of anywhere colder than where I am now is petrifying. 😀
 
I transmitted yesterday (6/24), but had my transcript mailed from the University about a month ago. Any idea how long it takes for them to say it was received?

I applied to:

1 LECOM-Bradenton
2 PCSOM
3 VCOM
4 WVSOM
5 PCOM-Atlanta
6 NYCOM
7 Nova

Going to add a few more when I get my check:

8 LECOM
9 PCOM
10 KCOM
11 CCOM
 
wow JKDMed - what schools didn't you include? are you applying to md schools too? I was worried about the number of secondaries I was going to need to fill out so I tried to cut down on the number of DO schools.

kaikai128 - Indiana, which part? South Bend? I'm from Chicago, Hyde Park, I guess closer to Indiana. It's only 60 there right now?
 
Hi everyone. I applied to PCOM, CCOM, KCUMB, DMU, NY, NSU, and LECOM. My top choices are PCOM, KCUMB, and NSU..but we'll see if that changes as time goes on. Right now it's just a waiting game (an exciting waiting game). Goodluck everyone.
 
JKDMed hey the more power to ya, the more you apply to, the more weekend vacations you can make. thats why I applied to nova, western, touro, nycom.... hehe, gotta hit those sunny spots.

Did anyone run into the problem of filling in course numbers? My school has course numbers listed as 20181 but I can't fill it out completely on the application. it stops at like three or something like that. really frustrating.

I lived in Indy for the past 4 years...but now I am in southern Indiana (~45mins NE of Evansville)--very very boring little area, but the fam is here and I got to move back in for free and save a bit of $$.

I just submitted, but I can tell you what I did. In the format that they showed, I listed my title/dates employed/short description (for level of responsibility)...there is a character limit (500?), so you have to be precise.

EG:
Environmental Health and Safety, Student Employee/01-02 thru 06-03/Laboratory inspector in charge of 2000 laboratories and writer for the campus safety newsletter.
 
I don't see very many people looking at UMDNJ-SOM, any reasons?? I live in NJ so I guess I'm a little biased.

I'm submitted and waiting for verification:

How long did it take most of you to get your transcipts to show as received? I had mine mailed out on May 14 and just called AACOMAS. Apparently, they still don't have it. 😕

Just curious before I waste $8 to send another.
 
Keep in mind that sometimes even though you put in your request to your undergrad schools to send out your transcripts, they can have delays on their side. Some schools only mail them on a certain day of the week. Others can take up to 5 days just to process your request.

It took them 4 weeks after my schools mailed them to have them show up as recieved. But that was after the schools mailed them, not when I asked the schools to mail them. There was a delay of 1 and 1/2 before one of my schools sent them.

hi all, i'm new to sdn and will be applying to DO schools for the 1st time. I am planning to retake the august mcat, got 25O last time and was sick. I am NY resident, so am applying to NYCOM of course. But I was wondering which schools, if any, have resident requirements...or which schools should I probably not apply to b/c I am in NY? I also want to apply to PCOM and LECOM, but don't know too much about the rest of the schools. Any advice would be great. THANKS! 🙂

yo irishlaydi - I think NYCOM is really an enigma. I think being an NY resident will really help you a lot. I would apply to more than just one DO school tho. Maybe spread it out geographically. It's always better to have more options. With NOVA, I know they spread it out so they don't accept only 80 % of the class instate and 20 % of the class out of state. They told me it was more 50-50. LECOM looks great. PCOM is awesome, it's in the heart of Philly. Have you thought about CCOM? I know for sure that only some schools of out of the DO are resident exclusive. NYCOM being one of them but generally most of them are 50-50 on out of state/instate. Anyways, it doesn't hurt to call before applying to teh schools. And best of luck with the August MCAT. Hope it turns out better.

If it's only 8 dollars, I dont think it would hurt too much to just send another transcript out today.. Just in case. I had my transcripts sent from three colleges, that was such a pain.... cuz the people dragged their feet and I rushed them too. I ended up calling to make sure it was received. anyways, just err on the side of safety cuz what can go wrong often does in the application process.

Anyone else having trouble accessing UMDNJ's secondary application page? I called there today and they didn't even know about it, anyone know?
 
I agree. I've put in multiple requests for transcripts from one school before just to make sure at least one of them gets there. I know we're all probably counting every penny but in the long run it will be better to have the application completed rather than waiting for the last transcript.

I called my university and they mailed my transcript on the 14 of May. I would assume AACOMAS would have gotten it by now. The guy said if nothing changes by Wednesday to have the U remail it.

yo, JKDMed, hope the transcript thing turns out fine. that's been like more than 30 days since it was mailed. I don't know how they've couldve not processed it by now.

I just checked my status page on AACOMAS, did anyone's personal statement come out funny the first time? I had squares and weird questionmarks where there used to be normal apostrphees and commas.. freaked me out. oh well. so I turned the thing in and the schools i applied to are as the ones I want to go to: Touro, Western, CCOM, NOVA, Nycom, Kirksville, PCOM. Really thought long and hard about the Atlanta campus and the Las Vegas one especially. anyone think about applying to the newer DO schools?
 
I have been curious about the new DO school in Virginia...does anyone have any info about it?

I applied to the LasVegas and Bradenton schools for this upcoming cycle. I applied because of location. However, I still need to do research on accreditation and exactly how that works. I am hoping to find out more about these schools as the new classes begin.

That school is VCOM (Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine). I haven't started yet so I can't tell you specifics but I can tell you that everyone I have met there and all the staff members seem to be really great. I felt like I was home when I interview there and that is one of the reasons I chose VCOM over the other schools where I interviewed.

There are a number of MSI students from VCOM that have posted on our class thread. You could probably PM them and ask them there opinion of the classes and profs.
 
Somebody mentioned something about secondaries?? I thought you had to wait for the e-mails. My friend said Tulane's (it's an M.D.) secondary is just a link on their website. I didn't see secondary links on the few websites I visited. I'm still waiting to be processed (submitted the 20th).
 
I have my heart set on WVSOM. I love the town, the facilities, and the community that the school itself creates for the students. I've been lucky enough to get an insider's view to the school because my brother-in-law just started MS-3 there. I want to practice rural medicine in Appalachia so I also applied to PCSOM.

Lots of schools have their secondary online. Here is the link to VCOM's secondary. You can have things ready to go and then when they request the secondary, you can mail it without delay.

I recommend you make a copy of all secondaries so that you can refresh your memory by reading over it the day of your interviews.

I'm hanging in limbo. my transcript was sent a while back... turned in my application a week ago and now my status is still the same. Should I call?

I am in Limbo too...but I think it said to expect 4-6 weeks for delivery of your e-profile to the schools. If you call, let me know if it helps at all.

I called the guy and actually physically said these words, "Could you check to see if you have my transcripts lying around there?" that didn't get a good response. I think I might as well hand deliver them at the rate they go. Who wants to make the weekend trip with me to Maryland? We could split the hotel room.

The thing says my transcript is received, but alas it just sits there.
 
My ap was delivered, but for some reason I can't log onto my status check page. Anyone else have this problem?

When was it delivered? It's interesting that some people were complete 3 days after submitting while others have waited two weeks or more.

Do you suppose it's because I don't have an MCAT score listed?

No, I have had my MCAT score on there and it has been weeks. They told me my app will be sent out with the next batch though, going out at the end of this week.
 
It was delivered on July 3. I typed in my login info and it just gives me a message that says that no password or username matches. I can logon to the page that says that I was delivered July 3. Does it take a bit of time for them to add me to the "delivered" aps?

are you talking about your AACOMAS application was submitted by you on July 3rd? cuz that was what happened to me. I had to wait two days before they decided to update the server so I could log on to check my status.

sigh.... this whole process is so frustrating.

Yes, that's what I'm talking about. I guess I'll just wait a couple more days-considering the holiday. Yes....it is very frustrating!
 
This is just probably a filler question but who here has a D.O. writing a letter of recommendation for them?
