Honestly, a week isn't that important right now. If it were me, I'd probably contact AACOMAS to unsubmit and add those in there.

Affect your chances?....

Honestly, if you were a borderline applicant and everyone else with similar stats had tons of clinical experience and your application was severely lacking, I'd say YES, it could affect your chances.

However, shadowing isn't the end-all to clinical experience, and clinical experience isn't the end-all towards getting an acceptance, so I'll leave this one up to your discretion to determine how your application stacks up against others' and how willing you are to sacrifice a week, early in the application season.

:luck:

Yeah I'd have to agree with CB.. it's one thing if you were submitted for 4 weeks and it would essentially put you back a month in the process..but one week? won't make a difference this early in the season... If it were me, I'd take the hit of 1 week in exchange for making sure I didn't short change my app

When I entered my grades, I had one class that I repeated. Got a C the first time and an A the second time. I marked it correctly so that they would know it was a repeat class and not count the C. Now that they received my transcripts, it says my app is processing. When I go to "view application summary," it has that first C marked down as being worth 2.0 credits. It should say 0.0 credits, though...do you think this will fix itself once they finish processing my app or should I call them up to doublecheck that they didn't miscalculate my GPA?

I want it corrected before they send my app out to schools...it'll be a hassle having to correct once schools have received my app. Thanks!

I believe that if your app is still "processing" that the gpa's are not counted yet. When they verify you it will show each school with something like :

Nova Southeastern University RELEASED MM/DD/YYYY

and you can click a link to a PDF that lists what AACOMAS has calculated and all the other stats they have calculated.

It will show that the class was 2.0 credits....since it was (right?) but the grade will not be counted in the final tally as long as you marked the retake correctly.
All is well!

I'm on the payment and checkout page and I have a bold black message that reads "Missing for 129" - Any idea what this means???

My primary application was verified and completed last week, then on Friday I was accepted into a SMP starting in the fall and this was not included in my primary. I have already received a few secondary applications, but am waiting until after I retake my MCAT July 31 to start working on them. So my questions are:

Should I contact aacomas now to update my application or wait until my mcat retake scores come in august?

Does aacomas send out updates like this to schools that they have already released info to?

Just wondering about CC high school courses. I took a course in 2001 while I was in high school and I don't see anywhere for me to classify it has a HS course.

In the term year, the course levels are only ugrad, grad, and post bacc. Academic status is frosh, soph, jr, sr, in addition to the above. So what should I put for these slots for my HS course? Thanks. The help is appreciated.

And also, there is a GPA award that is given called Provost's Honors at UCSD. I have like 6 of them for different quarters... Should I even put it in the awards sections? I want to put it in, but having it 6 times seems excessive.

Your HS course, if it counted for college credit, can be included into the first semester of freshman year when entering courses. Enter in the course as it appears on the college's transcript.

Put down your award 6 times; it's fine. I did it, anyway. 👍

Yeah, I checked today and they just posted it today, saying it was received June 25th. So they're just slow to tell me they got it.

yes but one did not show up for me last cycle that ended up being in my file for months and i had sent it three times and it never showed as received. somehow when i contacted them, it magically appeared in my file. so moral of the story...stay on top of it and follow up if they do not show something as received.

Hi, all.

I just got a notification from AACOMAS that my application was verified today( submission date 06/09/09). What worries me is that I do not see a science or cumulative GPA posted anywhere in my application summary, nor do I see my degrees posted anywhere in my application. I remember putting my degrees down when filling in my application, and that my GPAs showed up when I finished entering my courses.

I was wondering whether this is normal? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It's normal, and this issue has come up a million times. You'll be fine. 😉

Thanks buddy. Sounds like a plan.

Also for advanced placement, I got a Pass, but it also has the option of Advanced Placement in the AACOMAS grade. I put P for the grade, AP for the AACOMAS grade and AP for classification. Does that seem accurate?

Does anybody know how I can update my AACOMAS application?
Right now its pending for verification plus waiting for transcripts.
Does AACOMAS let me update stuff like work history, volunteer work etc. on my profile before, during or after I am verified?

Thanks

Thank you so much for your reassuring response, Semicolon. I feel so relieved now. Thanks again!😉

They always update eventually, but in most cases they lag.

I thought that if you selected AP as a classification it wouldn't ask for a grade? And that the AACOMAS grade is generated automatically? Maybe I'm not remembering things right, lol.

If you attempted to update during verification, you'd need to contact AACOMAS to unsubmit your application, which would delay the process. After verification, you can update the schools through AACOMAS, but I am unsure of the exact process to do this.

K, fee waiver question here.

I was already awarded a fee waiver for the AACOMAS app this year. Unfortunately finances are so tight right now that I can't even afford the application fee that AACOMAS charges after the first 3 applications. Should I just go ahead and submit the AACOMAS to the 3 free schools and add the other ones on later? Also how likely are schools to waive the secondary fee since I received the AACOMAS waiver and am classified as disadvantaged?

thanks!

I have several publications and there is no obvious place to put them on the AACOM app? Does anyone have any idea about this? I would like to mention them, as they are a significant part of what I've been doing since undergrad (non-traditional student, here). Can't list them in employment section...... Is my only option in the personal statement? That seems kind of lame.

I put them under Honors and Awards.

I am taking MCAT July 31, transcripts all received by AACOMAS, just need to finalize P.S.. Should I be in a big rush to submit app. for verification with school choices now or does it not matter with schools not having MCAT score till late August. Thanks much!!!🙂

Hello ppl..Is there anyway to get paragraph identation for the AACOMAS personal statement section..mine keeps popping up as 1 big paragraph!!

You don't need your MCAT score to be verified, so just finish up your PS and submit!

This is happening to practically anyone. I haven't heard of a good fix for this yet. If you want, you can leave a break between each paragraph.

I dont know but maybe you have to wait until you've been verified. But after that go to the AACOMAS website and next to school you should see a date that your app was verified and "view". Click on "view" to get the info on your whole app GPA, MCAT, essay... hope that helps.

Hey everyone,
I focused my personal statement on why I wanted to become a DO, but I realized that secondary essays ask specifically "why do you want to go into osteopathic medicine." Would it be a good idea not to focus my PS for my primary on why I want to become a DO?

Ok so I was looking over at the pre-allo forum and noticed that a lot of people included contact info on AMCAS for their activities. I'm not filling out AMCAS, so I am wondering if I am supposed to include that in my AACOMAS? Like at the end of entries or something??

Nope. Not necessary, since AACOMAS doesn't ask for it. AMCAS used to ask for a contact name and title. Maybe they upped the ante to include phone number and address? 😕

Either way, don't worry about it.

Submitted a week ago and it's just saying "processing." Wondering how long you guys are waiting.

yea i submitted 6/17 and still not verified.....i submitted my amcas a week later and it was verified on monday and schools have already sent me secondaries. I don't understand why aacomas takes so long...

Yep, that would be a great idea. Generally speaking, it's not a good idea to focus your PS on "why osteopathic medicine", but rather "why medicine" altogether. You'll have plenty of chances to explain the former in your secondaries and interviews. 👍

4-6 weeks people.

You'll all be fine; just a little longer. 🙄

It takes at least a month to be processed...but sometimes calling once it has been past a month helps speed things along...

For instance, I submitted my application 6/5 and was processed by 7/8. However I noticed that my application was never released to the schools. So I called up AACOMAS yesterday (7/16) to ask why, of course they had no 'real' answer for me. But within an hour my application was released.

So I recommend just being patient, but make sure you stay on top of things....

From what I hear, getting your application in July or August wouldn't be as big of a deal for AACOMAS since the osteopathic schools typically have later deadlines than the allopathic schools. Anyone want to corroborate this? I'm not 100% sure.

People who apply at or near the deadlines don't have a very good chance, even with a great application. You need to be concerned with ASAP, not deadlines. You want to be at the top of a short list of candidates, not at the bottom of a loooooooooooong list. That way you're not having to fight for the last seat against thousands of other applicants.

No, I'm not saying that July or August are late. I'm addressing your thought process, not your example. 🙂

I apologize if this is listed elsewhere, but I am low on time to scour the forums at this point...

Can someone tell me the best way to show on my application this cycle the fact that I am beginning a Master's program in Biology this fall? When I list it in the college coursework section, it requires a transcript from the school be received to submit the application, despite the fact that the coursework is listed in fall '09-spring '10 and categorized as "planned/to be completed." If these classes were at one of the other schools I have attended, I would be set, but the program is at a school I have never attended. Should I just leave it off for now and send a letter to the schools alerting them to the fact that I will have new grades after the fall semester? Or is there a way to list it on the application without requiring a transcript from them before I can submit?

THANKS!

I couldn't agree with you anymore. You hit it on the head.

ok, I have my whole app finished. I even have the schools I have picked out and ready to apply to. I have not submitted yet because I know it takes 4-6 weeks and I am taking the MCAT the 31st. I JUST finished a summer course that I recieived an A in. I would like to update aacomas with it. I have submitted the request form to my undergrad institution to have the new grade sent to aacomas but when I just go to fill it into my app it is not letting me plug the grade in. I have already added the class as "under progress" because I was going to get verifiried in june until i decided to wait. Now I cant even add a semester, or a grade for the class that was noted (planned/in progress) and I cannot change it to taken and place a grade in it. They have all my transcripts but I was just going to send them an updated one with the new classes grade, thats it. can anyone help me out here. The class is locked for some reason. I cant even add a different semester.

also what happens if I decide to void my mcat and I already put in the verification code for aacomas to retrieve it from aamc

hi guys, this might be a stupid question, i just got my application finally verified and was wondering where i could find my final GPA. dont see it listed anywhere.?

Is it a good idea to put the reason why you left a job under the description?
I've had three different jobs over the past year and I thought it would be a good idea to explain why I left each one.

Hi Guys, I was wondering if ya'll recommend using bullets or paragraphs when describing work/activities/shadowing? I was thinking of using short paragraphs but I am not sure If I should write in the 1st person?

please help

thanksss

:luck:

Well, I know that last year, about 2-4 weeks after being verified, your app was updated on the main page to include a link to each PDF that was sent to each of your schools. In there you could see all your GPA breakdowns.

I'd say it's unnecessary and I would personally just focus on the benefits to said jobs. If you feel like it looks really bad or something and you owe the adcoms an explanation, then go ahead. But I never put a reason why I left, and neither did anyone else I know (I have proofread lots of apps over the last few years).

I personally used bullets, but people have been quite successful using either method. I just phrased things like "Assisted with transporting patients./Conducted microbiology research./Etc.

I didn't use any first person statements in the descriptions. Whatever you choose, keep it consistent for each entry.

Why are you waiting for your MCAT to submit? Submit now; it takes long enough to verify!

As for your new grade, just contact AACOMAS and let them know they you're sending them a new transcript then request one from your school to be sent to them. That should be fine.

And if you void your score, they simply won't get it.
