AACPMAS 2015-2016 Cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anybody hear anything from Scholl yet?
I got the application receipt on Sep 3rd and it said they would let me know About an interview within ten business days. Still havent heard back. Even with labor day weekend, its been more than ten business days

Has anyone with a low MCAT received an interview this cycle? I found out I scored a 489 (18-19 on old scale).

Ill be there around 2:30pm. Not for an II but just a personal meeting with one of the faculty members.

Anyone interview yet at Temple? How was it?
Very conversational. I was asked two, maybe three questions during my interview.
Enjoy the cookie and the socks and don't stress out about it.
Try to go and see the city if you have the time, Philadelphia is really cool!!

Going to my third podiatrist on Monday. If I plan to do interviews in early-November is obtaining a letter from one of them by that time feasible? I figure I'd go maybe twice this upcoming week to see how it goes, then ask for an LoR? That gives them about three weeks to write it and email it to my advising office so they can send my LoRs a week in advance of my interview.

Interviewed at Kent on 25th. School is HUGE and everything is state of the art, and they are going to replace most of their technology with even newer tech which will be available in Fall 2016. Very, very appealing school.

Figured as much, they sound pretty big on technology on their website and the forums. Probably more so than any other school. What was their clinic situation?

Lackluster - there's almost nobody there. They rely on technology such as hi-tech dummies that can emulate health conditions and actor patients to simulate clinic. But a LOT of MD/DO schools also use this tech to simulate clinic. You can't really go wrong with Kent.

Though there's an ordinance in Independence that doesn't allow residential complexes, the nearby towns are very cheap and very close. I personally stayed with a friend of mine living in Parma, who also goes to Kent, and it was about an 8 minute car ride.

I SO want to go to Kent! While shadowing a podiatrist, I met a resident who went there that was participating in the surgeries I was watching. He highly recommended the school. I am an Ohio resident and it would work out great.

I got my western acceptance a few days ago. Pleasantly surprised by the school and faculty during my interview
So what could we expect from the Western interview? Did you interview at any other schools? How does Western compare?

Also, from their website they sound like they have more of a team based learning approach, could you expand on that? Thanks, interviewing there next week.

Western was my first scheduled interview and I have my next interview in a couple weeks, so I can't really compare Western to any of the other schools.
They definitely have a team based learning approach, and the faculty and students all seem very close. You'll hear more about this throughout the day, but they have different mentor programs. Each student is assigned a faculty mentor and a second year student mentor. Also, you regularly meet with students from the other healthcare programs on campus and work on case studies together (part of an interprofessional education course you have to take).

The interview day was great, and I'm already seriously thinking of going there next year. Also, just a heads up that they're using a new open-file interview system. Everyone had different questions on their interviews..some had all behavioral questions, and others said they had no behavioral questions..just a lot of stuff about extracurriculars, research, undergrad experience.

Just got the email for an interview at Temple after being verified on Thursday!! I'm very excited to head out there (calling their office to schedule my day and time tomorrow). Was pleasantly surprised to learn that TUSPM provides lodging accommodations as well.

Any tips/things to keep an eye out for in prepping for it besides the usual questions?

Having had a few foot/ankle injuries and having a few right now, I know I can talk about some of my own experiences in combination with what I've come to observe while shadowing.

The hotel Temple puts you up at is pretty nice. Definitely go out and see the city if you can beforehand.

As for the actual interview, it was VERY conversational. As in, I was asked two or three standard "interview" questions and spent the rest of the time chatting with my interviewer. I'd take that with a grain of salt though, some of the students kind of insinuated that your interview experience depends pretty heavily on which faculty member/doc is doing your interview.

Go over the interview feedback page for Temple and look through the questions. Make sure you have answers for them. Review your app. Be ready to talk about any red flags, if you have them. Other than that, enjoy the day!

Go for it! It's a great school. I'd say the awkward residency stats are due to their ridiculous class size.

Bonus: They have a nice cafeteria w/ salad bar and you get $400 (I forgot if it was per year or semester) loaded onto your student ID to use for coffee, energy drinks, lunch etc. Pretty cool.

Totally hoping to! The cafeteria gig sounds pretty sweet. Everyone is getting interviews and I am sitting here waiting for my MCAT score. :nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting:

Has anyone interviewed at NYCPM yet? Scheduled for the Oct 14th.

I did. It was my first interview so not much to compare it to, but I was pleasantly surprised.

-Interviewed by a third year student first, then by two faculty members (dean of clinical education and dean of pre-clinical education). Both interviews were very relaxed and conversational, not many actual questions. The faculty interview concentrated more on my questions than anything else. (see interview feedback for prepping)
-Got to speak with numerous students one-on-one.
-Impressive on-site foot clinic. Shadowed a DPM with a bunch of third years. Awesome experience.
-Facilities are a little dated.
-Every student is given a iPad mini which they use to take all their tests. (many other uses obviously)
-Overall the school had a very community-like feel to it (seemed like everyone knew everyone)
-Everyone was super friendly and seemed like they loved being there.
-Curriculum is tough, which is why they had highest 1st time pass rate on boards (91% at NYCPM and 84% national average) and 100% residency placement last year. (pretty sure those are the numbers they gave me)
-Harlem is a pretty cool area, becoming very gentrified. Very comfortable for me, but I grew up in/live in an urban area. I can see how it would be intimidating for people from a smaller area.
-Only downside is the cost of living.
-Went to interview with no intention of going to the school, but if accepted, I would seriously consider it.

Let me know if you have any specific questions

Does AACPMAS not being to verify your transcripts until they have all of them? One school accidentally sent my transcript to PA instead of MA but the others have been there for over a week.

Anyone doing November interviews? I probably won't have my DPM letter or MCAT #2 score til around then, so I'm interviewing during the 12th-17th at Kent, Temple, and NY. I wonder how necessary it is to have LoRs in pre-interview

How does one print/save a copy of the completed aacpm application? Can't seem to find the option ...

Hi guys so I just got the email saying my coursework was verified. My final stats are as follows:

3.15 science gpa
3.24 overall gpa
501 MCAT

Just waiting for any word on interviews, super nervous.
