I had a quick question. Does anyone know how AADSAS calculate GPA in terms of repeated grades. For example, I have repeated a course to get a better grade, would the AADSAS average out the two grades or would they count the better grade that I got when you repeated the course?

Unfortunately, BOTH grades WILL be calculated into your GPA.

so if i get a D in a science class and then retake it and get an A. they would calculate my GPA as a combination of both: so i would end up with a 2.5GPA?

Also, what do they do with a W? How do they calculate a W in the overall GPA?

let say you have a D and repeated the class and get an A in a 4 unit class. So that WILL play out as a 4 unit D and a 4 unit A so total of 8 units that averages out to be a 2.5 like you said.

As far as Ws, AADSAS doesn't calculate that grade, it doesn't mean anything as far as GPA goes. However, A LOT of schools will still go ahead and count that as a "F" Every school calculates GPA a little differently. Some will take the better grade (UCSF, UOP .etc), some will do both (Case Western), and some will take the average (USC.) AADSAS is just a general guide for the schools.

Do you know of any other dental schools that take the better grade instead of the average?

Sorry I don't, those schools are the ones I asked questions to when they came to my undergrad to recruit cause I was stuck in similar situation with some of you. I have 1 F and 1 WF (withdraw failing) which still counts as a W.

SO did the dental schools look at your official school transcripts and saw that your retook a course? or did they ask you about that grade? since it reflected worse on your AADSAS science GPA

They don't look at your official school transcripts, b/c you send that to AADSAS and AADSAS will verify the grades. On AADSAS you will have to specify REPEAT COURSES next to your grades if you have some of them so the schools will know about it. I've been to 5 interviews and only 1 school asked me about my F in ochem, and that's Kentucky.

Thank you so much for all your responses 🙂 last question, do you think if I score around a 23 or 24 on the DAT i will be pretty much guaranteed an acceptance even though my average gpa is 3.5 and science is 2.8

I am not in admissions so I can't really tell you how it'll go EXACTLY. But ya in my opinion, a 23-24, that's a GREAT score if you can hit that mark. Your science GPA is def gonna be a weakness in your package so hopefully you have everything else to back you up on that, AND a strong upper trend grades later on in your academic science courses.

As far as a guarantee acceptance, that's really up to you. By that I mean even if I am on the admissions and I like you based on what I see on your application and offer you an interview. Whether or not you're accepted to the school is STILL depending on your interviewing skills. Or at least that plays a HUGE factor on the decisions. Don't forget, school is looking to see if you're the right match for their programs. If you get an interview then you know you've beat out 1000s of other applicants for that spot and you're knocking on the door. Whether or not they'll let you IN, that's a different stage of the game you'll have to beat. Why do we see people with 3.9 and 21 or above get denied sometimes? Purely due to their interviewing skills.

So UOP calculates GPA separately from AADSAS by replacing grades if a class was taken twice?

First time hearing this!

Is there anything else in the application process that UOP does different than other schools?

I don't know exactly if they calculate DIFFERENTLY, but they def will over look the previous bad grades if you retook classes and did better. T

Well for UOP, they really want to see that STRONG upper trend in the last 2 years before you apply. They want to see if you have that awakening moment and decide to focus on what needs to be done. Almost like a maturity growth I would say. By strong upper trend I would imagine they mean to have above a 3.5.

what does aadsaas do about DUAL CREDIT community college highschool grades

i messed up in highschool and got a bunch of B's, none of those were in any relevent predental classes

do i even have to submit that transcript?
ive already transfered the credits to my undergrad

Hello, I have a question. I've taken AP bio which exempts me from a year of general biology, but most dental schools take 1 quarter of bio credit, meaning I still need to take 2 more quarters of general bio (for schools that req. gen bio)

My school does NOT give me credit nor GPA for taking general bio since AP already "exempt" me from it. However, I heard with the AADSAS grading, they will count it towards my GPA. Can anyone confirm this?

You get that 23-24 and you my friend will have an acceptance letter. You just gotta be smart and select the correct schools

so at the bottom of my transcript it looks like this.

attempt earn points divisor GPA
xxx-----xxx---xxx---xxx-----xxx------------- retention
xxx-----xxx---xxx---xxx-----xxx------------- cumulative

my hours under attempted is 11 hours higher on both retention and cumulative with respect to the number under the divisor column. however, my gpa for both retention and cumulative is calculated by the numbers under the divisor column and not attempted. You are saying that aadsas will use the hours attempted as the divisor???

That would be correct.

Do I have a question,

What about classes that are pass/fail? And I passed. How do they calculate that? On my transcript, it just has a S-satisfactory and my school says they don;t release that info to anyone. The thing is, the classes are science classes.
