So the answer is Horizontal mobility because the social identity changes but the class/income remains the same for this individual. Does this mean that for mobility questions, we look primarily at the change in income? E.g if someone gets promoted to a CEO but still gets the same income = horizontal mobility and not upward mobility?

If AAMC defines it based on incomes, then it should be. However, my sociology professor would disagree on that and define unemployment as part of downward mobility.
