I was jsut wondering of how close these tests are to the real thing. As far as test #3 goes, I just finished it and it seemed to be pretty easy. I ended up getting 12 in VR, 15 in PS and 14 in BS. Is it similar to what I am ganna to get in the real test?

I got a 29 on test 5 and finished all sections early and was psyched, since that was my highest score yet! Then I got a 27 on test day. I would say that you will get an average score of what you scored on Kaplan FLs and AAMC tests on the real thing.
But your numbers are already so high that you really don't need to worry.

I do not understand, why MCAT causes so much trouble for people. It is a long test, yes. But the material covered there is not really that complicated and it takes just a little bit of thinking to come with an answer. The mistakes that I made were due to the fact that I did not read a few questions carefully enough

i was scoring 36+ on all the AAMC tests, then on test day, i got a really easy version of the exam. i scored a 33. a harder version is definitely a good thing. but like foxy said, with how you're scoring now, you'll be just fine.

What was the point of that post?

I don't get the point of that post either. Oh by the way, niksem, you somehow did not apply your fantastic verbal skills when you kept asking and then insisting that the practice vision was on the 2003 amcas application 🙄 .

But that doesn't mean we can't work together to come with an answer. I think it possible if we work carefully enough. --Trek

Niksem,
Just to be clear, as an MCAT instructor for TPR, AAMC test III is not really an accurate predictor of MCAT scores. It is significantly dated. AAMC IV is from 1996, and AAMC V is from 2000 tests. IV is close and maybe a little on the easy side, but accurate, and V is right on. Take those and see how well you do. I am not saying that you will not do well, obviously you are doing well now, just letting you know that III is not all that accurate or a good predictor of a real score today. AAMC VI is clearly your best bet, so take that right before the test to guage your ability.

I really don't want to pay 40 dollars a piece for a practice test. Is there any place where I can get V or VI for cheap?

The point of his post is simple.

Close to the MCAT you'll find more TPR/UCLA premeds coming outta the woodwork. They'll all start posting how easy the practice MCATs were and some will even make comments like..I missed 2 questions on AMCAS 4! Does that mean that I'll do well on the MCAT?

The people are full of **** and they're just trying to screw up your concentration. Don't let them get under your skin. If they weren't scared sh*tless about their own performance they wouldn't be trying to screw up yours.

hey why did you have to single out our school bro? anyway, do you have aamc 5 or 6? pm me if you do. hehe

And Niksem, hmmmmm. How could you get a 14 or 15 when the scale in the back only gives 12+? You're lying, and we don't like that on this board. And we don't like that quality in future doctors either. 🙄

However, I think (but I'm not sure) that if you get it through the Princeton Review they give a scale with all the numbers.

Does anyone have that scale to list for me please? I'd greatly appreciate it

I had amcas 5 but I gave it to a friend last week..

Hey Niksem, either u have no common sense or you are one fat liar, like BCgirl said. If you are scoring 41's on your MCAT, why are you boo-hooing on SDN; you know that you will get at least a 35 or 36 on the real thing. Hey Niksem, instead of giving u the MCAT, maybe they should give u something that sufficiently challenges your intelligence: spread your arms and try to touch your nose. That's it; its a good predictor of common sense.
One more thing, Sherlock, get your facts straight before you BS your credentials on SDN. Have a good day. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Since the scale in the back of the AAMC test only goes to 12, there's no way of knowing if you get a 14 or 15. So don't say you got a 14 or 15 unless you do a section without missing a single question. When I took AAMC test V I got 12+ on the science sections (I missed 9 on each section) and a 7 on verbal. On test day day I got a 7 on verbal, 10BS, and 12PS. I would say the biology section may have been more difficult. I also had 12+ on the science sections and 8 on verbal for AAMC test IV. Of course my 10 might be explained by a school band playing for 5 minutes during the Biological Section.

You are right that you cannot really find that information outright but would you want to know whether your score is 12 or 15? There is a difference, right? You can calculate the value of each scaled point in terms of the number of right answered questions. It is that simple. When I found out that people were getting low scores on MCAT, I was surprised. Most of things make quite a bit of sense there (I may write a book about in future) and there is certain logic that you just have to follow. In most of cases, you can predict what they are going to ask without reading the questions. If you get a low score in that test, I can tell for sure that you REALLY wasted your time in the undergrad and you have a lot catching up to do. I did not take #5 and 6 yet.
BTW, MCAT Prep courses are really a waste of time. Kaplan, for example, hires med school students whose MCAT scores are a little bit higher than the average. Very often their knowledge of the subject they are teaching is HIGHLY doubtful. A person does not know more than an undergrad must know for the MCAT. I think that all the other major test prep programs do the same thing. However, their library is very valuable and it does make sense to pay for it but not $1350, the amount of money Kaplan is asking for their course.

Otra vez,

I wish I were as smart as you!!!! WOW, you are simply AMAZING! 🙄

hi niksem

glad to see you are doing so well. Dont listen to these other people. They are just trying to mess with your confidence.

Oh, and one more thing. Why dont you take that AAMC 3, and your scores and stick it straight up your candy a_-

Hey Doctora Foxy,
Maybe niksem will let you edit his/her book?

Watch out niksem, those who write the mcat may be barreling through your door for a fresh new perspective on how to write a better test 🙄

Hey Niksem,
Let me know when your MCAT book is finished. LOL

OK, I hate to be a bitch (not really) but before you write your book (and your essay) you might want to work on your stilted english.

But since you're so gifted, you might already know that.

🙄

I am not gifted and thank you for the corrections. I will be writting a book about getting into med school, too, because I did not take MCAT yet and already have a conditional. I have to take MCAT and get a score that is about their average. But what do you people care? I am just a junior and already know that I got in.... SO BLA... BLA... BLA ...

You CANNOT simply calculate the value of each scaled point to determine whether your score was a 12 or 15. Why not? Well "there's a certain logic that you have to follow".

1. The MCAT is scored on a CURVE.
2. The reason why some tests don't differentiate between 12 and 15 is because certain MCATS are not difficult enough to accurately differentiate between a 12 and 15.

If 15% of the people who take the MCAT all miss 3 questions in a certain verbal section then obviously they can't all be in the top 2% of the test taking pool. So how do you know who gets a 12 and who gets a 15? For that reason they invented the 12+ score.

Niksem I strongly suggest that you get a serious attitude adjustment. Otherwise you'll be scewed when it comes down to interviews. Frankly you haven't taken the MCAT and you aren't currently holding any med school acceptances. To those of us who have already been accepted you're just an arrogant little prick.

I used the average scale chart in Kaplan book. Is it true that I do not hold any acceptances since I do not know what I will get for MCAT. But it seems that you are people are just jealous that's all.

I think you're going to be voted off on the next round.

Nicksem,

If you were soooo smart your brilliant mind would tell you that the Kaplan book's chart does not carry over to the AAMC 3 test. In fact, the Kaplan chart is much more generous than the score conversion in the AAMC 3 test. Since you didn't know there was a conversion chart for AAMC3, it's obvious that you never even took the AAMC3 test. You're just trying to pretend you're so smart. How arrogant and ignorant of you to require the praise of anonymous people on this board to boost your ego. You are really weird. I suggest everyone on this board ignore Nicksem. If we indulge him, he will keep coming back. Just ignore him and he'll have no one to talk to.

Niksem, stop shooting a dead horse. You are a filthy liar who will meet your doom during the medical school interviews, where you'll be spotted as a fake faster than the music industry did for Milli Vanilli. Just admit that you are a liar, and that's it, people will take you seriously.

"Girl you know it's true....ooooh...oooooh....oooooh!" RIP Milli. Or was it Vanilli? Whoever. --Trek

Yes, I was lying. I never got a score that high, just wonted to bs a little bit. There is still a lot of work in front of me.
