Back in 1863, slavery was allegedly abolished. Yet in the year 2006, I will be forced to travel to 11 different places in 12 months to do all of the work nobody else would ever want to do for no pay. Why isn't the dept. of labor looking into this atrocity?

Rotations are WORSE than slavery. At least slaves didn't have to pay $10,000/year to work. AND they fed you and gave you a place to live. It's total suck. Let's all revolt!

try paying $30,000 to be a free slave for 11 different preceptors.

I understand the point you are trying to make and I'm guessing that you don't mean anything offensive by it, but comparing slavery to P4 rotations is just a bit much and may be interpreted as offensive/inflammatory.

From a historical perspective slavery in the America's lasted over 300 years (at least from Columbus in 1492 or early 1500s w/ other explorers in the Caribbean and North America) and countless lives were lost due to inhumane acts in addition to the enslavement of the native S. Americans. As for the Africans who were brought to the America's, yes there slavery was abolished by Lincoln in 1863, but the entire culture of people were predominantly considered "second class citizens" up until the 1970s (even though Brown v Board of Education was in the mid 1950's).

Perhaps I lack a sense of humor and no offense taken, but please consider a different analogy for the next joke.

HA, HA, HA. I managed to snag 2 in the same county that I live in.

Actually, UF will try to place students with school age children close to home. I just don't have any kids.

I'm hoping it will work out. My hometown is Louisville, while the pharmacy school is in Lexington. The demand for rotation spots in Lexington is very high, somewhat lower in Louisville. Louisville is also a major metro area with multiple rotation sites, including spots for 25 UK pharmacy students with Norton Healthcare (new this year). So we'll see...

To switch gears. as I typed this, that damned Disaronno commericial where the chick shoves a minimally liquor soaked ice cube in her mouth because she's an alcoholic or something came on. It makes me want to stab children. I have been slightly pissed off for the last time. *Grabs 12 guage and huntin' dog*

Hey, today is the first day of Passover. Maybe instead of comparing the P4 year to slavery in the US, years from now we can sit around eating matzahs (or drinking kosher wine! 😍 ) and celebrating when WVUPharm said "let my interns go."

Somehow, even though I'm not Jewish, that seems almost as offensive, but funnier. But maybe it's just me.

I don't think that was how the whole "indentured servant" thing happened.

Usually they would sign away 7 years of their life to practically be a slave (although usually they had personal possessions but were still considered property of their "master") so they would be able to gain passage to a place (new world) where they thought that they could become successful after their indentured servant stint.

Actually...now that I think about it more...my explanation on what an indentured servant is does make it seem very similar to being on rotations :laugh:...just that they didn't really "pay" to be indentured servants

I'm Jewish. Oops, I ate cuban bread and roast pork today for lunch. (Merck brought in Cuban food).

When they bring in food to feed 25 people in the pharmacy, I'm eating. All the drug companies come in on a regular basis, so how can that affect my integrity? As soon as a new indication is approved for an old drug, or a new drug comes out, they arrive with lunch.
 
The medical residents have their stupid little meetings on the 4th floor of the HSC. I steal pizza from them every Friday @ 1150. Just find a stethoscope, throw it around your labcoat and you're gold.

Just make sure it covers up the pharmacy part on your labcoat. Otherwise they might run you out of school for daring to steal the food of future docs.
