abortion taught in med school?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes, because responsible parents-to-be would follow through with their decision to have the child, regardless of consequences (unless the woman's life becomes at risk during the pregnancy). An anencephalic child has as much a right to live as a healthy child.

Lol @irony.

bro do you know what anencephalic means?

😉

So... This is going to turn into an abortion debate, isn't it?

Some premed had to start it.

Of course, I wasn't trying to be scientific. If you want to be scientific, noone in the medical field openly states it is acceptable to kill an infant.

I'll assume you say "killing an infant" as a mistake, not to try and evoke emotion into a genuine discussion.

What other language would you use? Prenatal termination of an immature higher primate?

Abortion. Termination. Seeing as fetus =/= infant and abortion =/= murder. Really there is nothing correct about your phrasing

Murder= Killing of another human being with forethought. Women don't stumble into clinics and doctors don't accidentally perform an abortion procedure.

Original thread is original.

11 pages from now, this convo will still go nowhere......

From this point on, the thread will become an interesting political debate. :corny:

Clearly it doesn't meet the legal definition of murder seeing as it is legal and all

Something related to OP if I end up going to a med school that does not have a med students for choice how could I go about starting one or finding ones nearby?

Someone please close this already. Right-wingers and left-wingers will be right-wingers and left-wingers.

Please do not confuse people with a stance as being politically minded. Politics are petty and self oriented. Many of us do not recognize with any political affiliation.

Are the people that actually think abortion is evil being legit, or do they just like to troll people? 😛

Poes law. Hard to tell. I understand the pro life position but not being in favor of abortion for non viable fetuses is just nuts to me.

does it matter?

Just curious...I mean, usually the people I've met who condemn abortion with every breath in their body are very rare, and extremely radical. Trolling is 95% the reason I would think if someone thinks of abortion that negatively haha.

and these are the ones that condemn it even in the cases of incest and rape >.<. I understand pro life, and then there are radicals...

You will see D+C's for elective abortions in your GYN rotation. And usually noone ever is opposed to it. If you are, I doubt anyone would think negatively of you, in fact they would respect your honesty(assuming you simply say you don't feel comfortable watching, and want to step out without throwing any viewpoints at all).

Each school is probably different, but you can usually petition the school to just start one up and go to conferences and stuff. It's not different than any other club. Each club usually gets some funding to host related events. You might have trouble with some administrations so its YMMV.

By the way, since I'm sure this is on people's mind - there are definitely conservative students that are anti-abortion and whatever. They never said peep at my school and I haven't heard of problems at other schools, and I'm in a fairly conservative area (I'd guess ~40% of the class).

Thank you I really appreciate your insight. This is really good info

A philosophical debate on abortion and personhood in this thread will accomplish nothing. I'm sure everyone recognizes that.

Some people will continue to hold the correct perspective, and others will continue to hold the incorrect perspective. 😉

I agree. We've digressed from the topic.

It stands to reason, OP, that an accepted medical procedure will be covered to some degree in school. If not introduced directly, I'm sure the pertinent information would be readily available.

Yeah I'm just saying that Ob/Gyn interns do get OR time for D&Cs. Whether or not a facility lets them moonlight later on as a PGY2-4, I don't know. I'm curious enough to ask my Ob/Gyn resident friends.
Hey - let me know what you find out. Still think this is an interesting topic, though the thread got derailed.

does anyone know which medical schools allow me to fill 3rd and 4th year exclusively with abortion rotations? i really want to be an abortion doctor.

My medical school in the northeast has a combined Abortion and Flag Burning rotation. You can do a sub-I in the Destroy Christmas department too.
